Updated October 21, 2026 · applies to Season 88 (Shocktober), the October 6 balance patch and the October 19 balance update.

Quick answer: The best deck for Arena 8 (Frozen Peak, 2,300–2,599 trophies) in October 2026 is a Hog Rider 2.6 cycle: Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball and Giant Snowball. Three of those cards (Ice Golem, Ice Spirit, Giant Snowball) unlock in Frozen Peak itself. If you'd rather take towers in one big push, run Balloon Freeze (2.9 Elixir). If you like slow, heavy pushes, run Giant Lightning beatdown (3.3 Elixir). Every card in all three decks unlocks at or before Arena 8.

Frozen Peak is where Clash Royale stops being a tutorial. It hands you the spells that define real decks (Freeze, Lightning, Giant Snowball, Vines), the best 2-Elixir tank in the game in Ice Golem, and your first alternative Tower Troop. It's also where most "best deck" lists stop being useful, because they're built around The Log, Princess, Miner or Electro Wizard, and you won't see a Legendary until Arena 11. This guide only uses cards you can actually have at 2,300 trophies, explains why each deck works at this range, and covers what Supercell's two October balance passes changed.

Key takeaways

  • Arena 8 is Frozen Peak, from 2,300 to 2,599 trophies, with a King Level 8 requirement. At 2,600 you move into Arena 9, Jungle Arena (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas).
  • Frozen Peak unlocks 8 battle cards plus a Tower Troop: Ice Spirit, Giant Snowball, Ice Golem, Battle Healer, Freeze, Lightning, Vines, Giant Skeleton, and the Cannoneer.
  • Best all-round pick: Hog Rider 2.6 cycle. Giant Snowball takes the 2-Elixir small-spell slot that The Log fills in higher arenas.
  • Freeze lasts 3.5 seconds, not 4. Supercell cut it on September 8, 2026 (September Balance Changes). Older Balloon Freeze guides that time pushes around a 4-second freeze are out of date.
  • Minion Giant has been nerfed twice in October: hit speed 1.5s → 1.7s on October 6, then damage 168 → 153 on October 19 (October Balance Changes). It's still everywhere at this range, but it's much easier to defend.
  • No Wild slot yet. At Arena 8 you have one Evolution slot (Arena 3) and one Hero slot (Arena 5). The Wild slot opens at Arena 10.

Which cards can you use at Arena 8?

Your card pool at Frozen Peak is everything from the Training Camp through Arena 8, all Common, Rare and Epic. Epics opened at Arena 6 (P.E.K.K.A's Playhouse). Legendaries open at Arena 11 and Champion cards at Arena 16 (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas).

ArenaTrophiesCards it unlocks

The cards that catch people out are The Log, Miner, Princess, Electro Wizard and Mega Knight. All of them are Legendaries that unlock at Arena 11, and Ice Wizard waits until Arena 12. Barbarian Barrel, Goblin Gang, Dart Goblin, Goblin Giant and Poison are one arena away, in Jungle Arena. If a deck list includes any of them, it wasn't written for Frozen Peak.

What is the best deck for Arena 8 right now?

Clash Royale Ice Golem, the 2-Elixir Frozen Peak unlock that tanks for Hog Rider in the cycle deck

Our pick for most players between 2,300 and 2,599 trophies is the Hog Rider 2.6 cycle. It's the classic Hog cycle rebuilt from cards you own by Frozen Peak. All eight cards are Common or Rare, with no Epics, and those drop far more often from chests, the Shop and clan donations than Epics do.

The deck (2.6 average Elixir):

CardElixirRarityJob
Hog Rider4RareWin condition
Musketeer4RareRanged support, air defence
Cannon3CommonBuilding that pulls tanks and Hogs
Ice Golem2RareMini-tank, kiting, slow on death
Skeletons1CommonCheapest distraction in the game
Ice Spirit1CommonFreeze reset, cycle
Fireball4RareMedium spell
Giant Snowball2CommonSmall spell, knockback and slow

That's 21 Elixir across 8 cards, a 2.625 average that shows in-game as 2.6.

Why Giant Snowball: the 2.6 Hog normally runs The Log, which you can't have yet. Giant Snowball costs the same 2 Elixir, unlocks right here, knocks back and slows everything it hits for 3 seconds, and finishes off Goblins, Spear Goblins and Skeletons a Crown Tower has already damaged (Clash Royale Wiki: Giant Snowball). Its knockback also cancels a Battle Ram charge. One limit to know: Giant Snowball doesn't reset Inferno Tower, so against Inferno you time your Hog around it instead of trying to spell through it.

How to play it: defend cheaply, then counter-punch. Cannon plus one support card handles most single pushes for a positive Elixir trade. When your opponent commits Elixir to their own attack, send a lone Hog Rider at the other lane, with Ice Golem in front of it if you can afford it. Ice Golem got a longer slow on September 8 (2s → 2.5s) in exchange for less HP (1,315 → 1,228), so its death slow buys your Hog more swings than it used to. You aren't trying to three-crown. You chip, cycle back to Hog faster than they can rebuild a defence, and win on Elixir.

There's a reason players complain about this deck. As one r/ClashRoyale player put it this week, "everytime i see a ice spirit or a canon getting placed as the first card by the opponent, i just give up." Cheap cycle decks are annoying to play against at every trophy range. That's exactly why they climb.

Is Balloon Freeze good at Arena 8?

Clash Royale Freeze spell artwork, the Frozen Peak unlock that powers the Balloon Freeze deck

Yes, and Frozen Peak is the first arena where it's possible. Balloon unlocks one arena earlier in Royal Arena. Freeze unlocks here. A Balloon that reaches the tower and gets Frozen with the tower and its defenders usually takes the tower or close to it. Even the Trophy Road nudges you toward it: at 2,550 trophies you choose 6 copies of Freeze or Lightning.

The deck (2.9 average Elixir):

  • Balloon (win condition, 5)
  • Freeze (stun spell, 4)
  • Ice Golem (tank in front of the Balloon, 2)
  • Musketeer (air defence, 4)
  • Mega Minion (air defence, tank killer, 3)
  • Bomber (swarm defence, 2)
  • Giant Snowball (small spell, 2)
  • Skeletons (cycle + distraction, 1)

That's 23 Elixir, a 2.875 average, which shows in-game as 2.9.

How to play it: win the defensive fight first, then send Ice Golem and Balloon together at the bridge so the tower shoots the Golem while the Balloon flies past. Save Freeze for the moment the Balloon reaches the tower and their air defence gathers under it. Freezing early just wastes the 4 Elixir.

The September nerf changes the timing. Freeze now lasts 3.5 seconds instead of 4. Supercell's own note: "While we're happy with Freeze's newfound versatility thanks to its last damage buff, its use rate has surpassed what we deem healthy for this potentially oppressive spell." Balloon drops a bomb every 2 seconds, so half a second less sometimes costs you a whole bomb. Drop Freeze a beat later than an older guide would tell you, when the Balloon is already over the tower.

When to avoid it: if you can't afford to level both Balloon and Freeze (both Epics), the Hog cycle above climbs faster. Balloon is also hard work into Musketeer-plus-Inferno defences.

What's the best beatdown deck for Arena 8?

Clash Royale Lightning spell artwork, the 6-Elixir Frozen Peak unlock used in the Giant beatdown deck

Giant Lightning beatdown. Lightning is Frozen Peak's big spell: it strikes the three highest-hitpoint targets in its radius and stuns them for 0.5 seconds (Clash Royale Wiki: Lightning). That makes it the cleanest answer to the Inferno Tower or Musketeer sitting behind a Crown Tower, which is exactly what stops a Giant at this range.

The deck (3.3 average Elixir):

  • Giant (tank win condition, 5)
  • Baby Dragon (splash air support, 4)
  • Mini P.E.K.K.A. (tank killer, 4)
  • Mega Minion (air support, 3)
  • Lightning (big spell, 6)
  • Zap (reset + swarm clear, 2)
  • Ice Spirit (cycle, 1)
  • Skeletons (cycle + distraction, 1)

That's 26 Elixir, a 3.25 average, which shows as 3.3.

How to play it: play patiently and push once. Defend the first minute with Mini P.E.K.K.A., Mega Minion and Skeletons, then drop Giant at the bridge when you're ahead on Elixir, or behind your King Tower once double Elixir starts. Stack Baby Dragon behind it. When their defensive building or ranged support locks onto the Giant, Lightning it, and catch the Crown Tower in the same cast. Zap resets an Inferno Tower when Lightning is still cycling.

What decks will you face in Frozen Peak?

At 2,300–2,599 trophies, these are the win conditions you'll meet most, since they're all unlocked by Arena 8:

  • Minion Giant. It's been legal since Arena 5 and it's been nerfed twice this month. On October 6 its hit speed went from 1.5s to 1.7s, because it "was too punishing for a flying win condition," and on October 19 its damage dropped from 168 to 153. Musketeer and Mega Minion both shoot it down. Our Minion Giant counter guide has the full breakdown.
  • Balloon and Royal Hogs (Arena 7). Keep one air-targeting card in hand at all times. All three decks above carry at least two.
  • Three Musketeers (Arena 7). They got +3% hitpoints (883 → 906) on October 6. Punish the 9-Elixir split by attacking the other lane, or Lightning/Fireball them while they're bunched.
  • Freeze decks. Now that you're in Frozen Peak, so is everyone else. Don't commit your whole defence to one spot under a Balloon. Spread it so a single Freeze can't catch all of it.
  • Skeletons. The October 19 update made them always split on middle tiles (spawn spread 0.4 → 0.5 tiles), a partial walk-back of the tighter spawn Supercell added on October 6. Splash still kills them, so don't drop them onto a Valkyrie or Baby Dragon.

Should you switch your Tower Troop to the Cannoneer?

Clash Royale Cannoneer tower troop, unlocked at Frozen Peak as the first alternative to the Tower Princess

Frozen Peak unlocks the Cannoneer, your first Tower Troop besides the Tower Princess. The wiki describes him as a long-range, single-target Tower Troop with high damage per shot and a slow fire rate. He one-shots light ranged units like Dart Goblin and Firecracker (Clash Royale Wiki: Cannoneer).

For the three decks above, keep the Tower Princess. The Cannoneer's weakness is swarms: one big shot into a Goblin Barrel, Skeleton Army or a pack of Bats wastes most of its damage, and those swarms are common at 2,300+. Community tier lists generally rank the Princess well above the Cannoneer. That's player opinion, not an official ranking, but it matches what you'll feel in matches. Try the Cannoneer only if you're losing mostly to single big ranged threats. For the full comparison, see our best Tower Troop guide.

Do you need Evolutions or Heroes at Arena 8?

No. All three decks work with no Evolution and no Hero. At Frozen Peak you have one Evolution slot (opened at Arena 3) and one Hero slot (opened at Arena 5). The Wild slot, which takes either an Evolution or a Hero, opens at Arena 10 (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas). Royal Arena's Trophy Road gives you 3 Evolved Archers shards at 2,250 trophies, and Archers fit any of the three decks if you want an Evolution.

If you have a Hero whose base card is already in your deck (Hero Musketeer for the Hog and Balloon decks, or Hero Giant and Hero Mini P.E.K.K.A. for the Giant deck, for example), slot it in. Since the August 2026 balance changes, Hero and Champion abilities fire once per deployment (Boss Bandit is the only exception), so save the ability for the moment it swings a fight. Our Clash Royale Heroes guide explains how Hero Coins and the Hero slot work.

How do you get out of Frozen Peak faster?

Frozen Peak's Trophy Road has five rewards (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas):

TrophiesReward
2,325300 copies of Ice Spirit or Giant Snowball (your choice)
2,400Giant Chest
2,450150 Gems
2,5004,000 Gold
2,5506 copies of Freeze or Lightning (your choice)

Take Giant Snowball at 2,325 (Ice Spirit is easier to find elsewhere and both are in the Hog deck), and Freeze at 2,550 if you're playing Balloon, Lightning if you're playing Giant. Put the 4,000 Gold into your win condition and spells first. Gold per level is the same for every rarity, so a Common-heavy deck doesn't save Gold. Its advantage is that the copies are much easier to find.

Three habits get you to 2,600 faster than switching decks:

  • Pick one deck and stay with it. You only learn matchups by playing them.
  • Play for Elixir trades, not kills. Spending 6 Elixir of Lightning on a 3-Elixir push is a slow loss even if it clears.
  • Don't rage-queue. Once you've reached Frozen Peak, your trophies can't drop below 2,300, because the arena's Trophy Gate holds you there. Ten minutes off still beats playing tilted.

Once you hit 2,600, our best deck for Arena 9 (Jungle Arena) picks up where this guide ends, and Barbarian Barrel replaces Giant Snowball in the Hog cycle. After that comes Arena 10 (Hog Mountain). For the whole ladder, see all 32 Clash Royale arenas in order.

FAQ

What is Arena 8 in Clash Royale? Arena 8 is Frozen Peak. It runs from 2,300 to 2,599 trophies, needs King Level 8, and leads into Arena 9, Jungle Arena, at 2,600 trophies.

What is the best deck for Arena 8? The Hog Rider 2.6 cycle (Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, Giant Snowball) is our best all-round pick. It's cheap to level, cheap to play, and every card unlocks by Arena 8.

What cards unlock in Frozen Peak? Eight battle cards (Ice Spirit, Giant Snowball, Ice Golem, Battle Healer, Freeze, Lightning, Vines and Giant Skeleton) plus the Cannoneer Tower Troop.

Can I use The Log at Arena 8? Not on the standard Trophy Road. The Log is a Legendary, and Legendaries unlock at Arena 11 (Electro Valley). Giant Snowball is the best 2-Elixir replacement at Frozen Peak, and Barbarian Barrel takes over at Arena 9.

How long does Freeze last in Clash Royale? 3.5 seconds. Supercell cut it from 4 seconds in the September 8, 2026 balance changes, and it wasn't touched in either October update.

Is Battle Healer good at Arena 8? She's playable, but she's not the card she used to be. Supercell's August 2026 rework raised her damage from 148 to 268 (+81%) but she no longer heals herself, so she works as a front-line support troop rather than a self-sustaining tank. None of our three decks needs her.

Do trophies drop below 2,300 if I keep losing? No. Reaching Frozen Peak passes you through its Trophy Gate, and losses can't push you back into Royal Arena.
