Updated October 18, 2026 for Season 88 "Shocktober". An earlier version of this page was written from Supercell's pre-patch announcement, which promised nerfs only. The patch that shipped on October 6 also buffed eight cards, so the deck list below has been rebuilt from the live notes.

The best Clash Royale decks in October 2026 are the ones built on the win conditions Supercell just buffed, plus the proven shells that came through the nerfs mostly intact. The October 6 balance update shipped 7 nerfs, 8 buffs and 1 rework, and the buffs went almost entirely to tower-takers: Lava Hound, Goblin Barrel, Goblin Drill, X-Bow, Ram Rider and Wall Breakers.

Quick answer

Season 88, after the October 6, 2026 patch:

  • Goblin Barrel Log Bait is our top pick. Goblin Barrel's first hit is now 0.3s instead of 0.4s, and a Goblin Barrel shell topped SeeMeta's weekly Ranked snapshot at 58.2% over 1,944 games (a different eight-card list from ours, see below).
  • LavaLoon gained the most raw power. Lava Hound damage went 53 → 71 (+33% per Supercell), about 16% more damage per second after its slower hit speed.
  • X-Bow 3.0, Battle Ram bridge spam and Hog Earthquake cycle round out the top tier.
  • Minion Giant cycle and Golem with Elixir Collector both took direct hits. Pick them only if you already know them.
  • Free-to-play pick: Hog 2.6 Cycle.

What actually changed in the October 6 balance update?

Supercell's own patch notes, published on the official Clash Royale blog on October 6, 2026, explain the buff side in one line: "We're buffing weaker conditions to put them on par with the best tower-takers in the game." (official October Balance Changes)

That one sentence is the whole October meta. Here are the main balance changes, at Level 11 as Supercell publishes them. The notes also list two bug fixes, to the Elite Barbarians Evolution's spear sight range and Royal Ghost's damage, which don't change deck choices:

Two of those nerfs matter more than their size suggests. Barbarian Barrel "will no longer fully counter Wall Breakers," in Supercell's words, which is a direct handoff to Wall Breakers and bait decks. And the Hero Ice Wizard freeze no longer kills Skeletons and Bats, so cheap swarms survive it again.

One thing Supercell said almost in passing is the best meta read you'll get this month: "It's Minion Giant's world now and Evolved Cannon is just liv-... still the best building in the meta?" The nerfs to both cards are small. They are trims, not deletions. For the full card-by-card breakdown, see our October 2026 balance changes guide.

What are the best Clash Royale decks in October 2026?

Each deck below sits within the current 1 Evolution, 1 Hero, 1 Wild special-slot rule from the March 2026 update, so you can build every list in-game today. Champions such as Golden Knight, Little Prince and Mighty Miner take the Hero slot. Decks 1 to 3 are our editorial picks, built on the cards the patch buffed. Decks 4 to 7 come with tracked win rates from third-party battle trackers, recorded before the October 6 patch, so treat those numbers as snapshots, not promises.

1. Goblin Barrel Log Bait: our top pick

Cards: Goblin Barrel (Evolution), Princess, Goblin Gang, Knight, Inferno Tower, Ice Spirit, The Log, Rocket. Average Elixir: 3.3.

Log Bait wins by giving your opponent more small-spell targets than they have small spells. Goblin Barrel, Princess and Goblin Gang all die to The Log, Arrows or Barbarian Barrel. Once that spell is gone, the next Barrel connects.

October helped this deck twice. First, Goblin Barrel's first hit landed 0.1 seconds sooner, which is enough to sneak a stab in before a late Log. Second, Barbarian Barrel, the small spell most cycle and control decks were running, lost 8% damage. Goblin Barrel is also winning in the data: on SeeMeta's weekly Ranked tracker, the top-rated deck for October 10 to 17 was a Goblin Barrel shell at 58.2% across 1,944 games. That list is not the classic one above. It pairs Goblin Barrel with Princess, Bandit, Rascals, Cannon Cart, Giant Snowball, Rocket and Hero Dark Prince. The classic list is the easier one to learn, and if you own those cards the SeeMeta version is worth trying.

How to play it: keep Inferno Tower for their tank and use Knight plus Ice Spirit as your cheap defense. Never send Goblin Barrel into a Log you just watched them cycle. Count their small spell, then Barrel when it's out of rotation.

2. LavaLoon: the biggest buff in the patch

Cards: Lava Hound, Balloon, Mega Minion, Minions, Inferno Dragon, Tombstone, Arrows, Fireball. Average Elixir: 4.0.

Lava Hound got the largest buff of October. Its damage went from 53 to 71 (+33%) while its hit speed slowed from 1.3s to 1.5s. Do the math and the Hound now deals roughly 47 damage per second instead of 41, about 16% more. A Lava Hound that reaches the tower untouched now chips meaningfully on its own, which forces opponents to spend on it instead of ignoring it for the Balloon.

How to play it: take tower damage early and save Elixir. In double Elixir, drop Lava Hound at the back, follow with Balloon at the bridge, and Fireball or Arrows whatever air defense they commit. Tombstone and Inferno Dragon handle ground pushes while you wait.

Watch out for: Lava Hound decks need the full eight cards leveled to work. If your Legendaries are behind, the next deck is easier on your Gold.

3. X-Bow 3.0: small buff, big opportunity

Cards: X-Bow, Tesla, Archers, Knight, Ice Spirit, Skeletons, Fireball, The Log. Average Elixir: 3.0.

X-Bow only gained 4% damage (58 → 61), but siege decks live on breakpoints, and a tower that dies a few hits sooner turns locked games into wins. Players are already arguing about it. "Is X-Bow too OP?" was a live r/ClashRoyale thread on October 17, and the one reply called it "very bad and hardly an inconvenience." Opinions are split, and our read is that siege decks reward practice. That makes it a strong pick if you're willing to learn it.

How to play it: lock X-Bow on their tower from your side of the river, defend it with Tesla and Knight, and cycle back with Ice Spirit and Skeletons. Note that Skeletons now spawn in a tighter cluster, so splash catches all three more often. Place them deliberately.

4. Battle Ram bridge spam: still the punish deck

Cards: Battle Ram (Evolution), Royal Ghost (Evolution), Golden Knight, Bandit, Electro Wizard, Furnace, Ronin, Arrows.

This list posted a 53.8% win rate over 8,289 tracked Ranked games in SeeMeta data compiled by TheClick for September 28 to October 5. That sample was recorded before the patch. Since then Royal Ghost lost 5% hitpoints and Golden Knight's dash shrank to 5 tiles, so treat it as a strong shell, not a locked number.

It still punishes every slow deck in the meta. Battle Ram is the tower threat, and Bandit, Royal Ghost and Golden Knight make your opponent defend two lanes at once. All three special slots are already used here: two Evolutions plus Golden Knight, a Champion, in the Hero slot. So if you want Hero Electro Wizard in the Hero slot, take Golden Knight out and add Wall Breakers, which got 7% more damage this patch. His Surging Strikes ability costs 2 Elixir and stuns up to two nearby enemies for about 3 seconds. See our Hero Electro Wizard guide for when to fire it.

5. Hog Earthquake cycle: the honest grinder

Cards: Hog Rider, Earthquake, Firecracker (Evolution), Tesla (Evolution), Mighty Miner, Skeletons, Electro Spirit, Barbarian Barrel. Average Elixir: 2.8.

Same SeeMeta/TheClick pre-patch window: 50.4% over 11,931 games. That is lower than the decks above, but on a much bigger sample of players, so it is a real result and not a lucky streak. Hog Rider plus Earthquake punishes the defensive buildings that X-Bow and Golem players lean on.

October touched two cards here: Barbarian Barrel (-8% damage) and Skeletons (tighter spread). Neither breaks the deck, but you'll lose a few more Skeleton defenses to splash than you did in September.

6. Minion Giant cycle: nerfed, not dead

Cards: Rune Giant, Minion Giant, Bats (Evolution), Cannon (Evolution), Little Prince, Skeletons, Barbarian Barrel, Poison. Average Elixir: 2.9.

This was the most-played strong deck going into October: 53.6% across 21,855 tracked games (SeeMeta, September 28 to October 5). Then it took four hits in one patch: Minion Giant's hit speed (1.5s → 1.7s), Evo Cannon's barrage, Barbarian Barrel and Skeletons. Supercell's own line, "It's Minion Giant's world now," tells you the developers still expect it to be good.

Our read: keep playing it if it's your main deck, but don't switch into it this month. Every card it lost value on is a card the buffed bait and siege decks were trading against.

7. Golem beatdown: be careful with Elixir Collector

Cards: Golem, Elite Barbarians (Evolution), Electro Dragon (Evolution), Hero Berserker, Skeleton Dragons, Tornado, Barbarian Barrel, Elixir Collector.

Pre-patch it posted 53.6% over 6,609 games. The problem is Elixir Collector, which now lives longer (1m 50s) but produces more slowly (every 15s instead of 13s). Supercell said it wants Collector's "Return on Elixir" to take longer to pay off. A Collector placed under pressure now leaves you down Elixir for longer, so plant it only when they're out of position.

Which decks got worse in October 2026?

The losers are the cheap defensive enablers, not the win conditions. Here is the shortlist, and what to do about each:

  • Hero Ice Wizard decks. The freeze lost 49% of its damage and no longer kills Skeletons or Bats. Control decks that leaned on Hero Ice Wizard to clean up swarms (Mortar Skeleton Barrel was the clearest example) need a backup small spell.
  • Minion Giant cycle. Covered above: four overlapping nerfs.
  • Anything built around Elixir Collector, especially Three Musketeers. Explaining the Collector nerf, Supercell wrote: "Considering the buff to Three Musketeers, we wanted them to be viable without depending on Elixir Collector."
  • Royal Ghost bait. A 5% HP cut means Royal Ghost loses some trades it used to win in bait and cycle decks.

If you're running one of these, you don't have to scrap the deck. Usually one card swap does it: add a second small spell, drop the Collector, or move Royal Ghost back to a bridge-spam shell.

What is the best free-to-play deck for October 2026?

Hog 2.6 Cycle: Hog Rider, Musketeer, Ice Golem, Cannon, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, The Log. Average Elixir: 2.6.

It's the best free-to-play pick for three reasons. Seven of its eight cards are Commons and Rares, which drop far more often than Legendaries, so you can level the whole deck evenly. The Log is the one Legendary. It rewards timing more than card levels. And Skeletons is the only card in it the October patch touched, and their tighter spawn barely matters in a deck that uses them to pull one attacker.

One thing it won't save you is Gold. Gold costs are the same for every rarity: Level 13 to 14 costs 60,000 Gold whether it's a Common (3,500 copies) or a Legendary (12 copies). The saving with Hog 2.6 is in copies, because Commons and Rares are much easier to collect. If you'd rather start lower on the ladder, our Arena 10 Hog Mountain deck guide breaks Hog 2.6 down card by card.

How do you pick the right deck for you?

Pick the deck that matches how you already play. The win-rate gap between these decks is a few percent. Your own skill with a deck matters more than that.

Two calendar notes before you commit Gold. The Ranked unlock requirement is 13,500 Trophy Road trophies through October, rising to 14,000 in November. That 14,000 is a different number from the 14,000-trophy Trophy Road cap, even though they match. And C.H.A.O.S returns on October 19 with its own card pool, so your ladder deck won't carry over there. See our C.H.A.O.S mode explainer and best C.H.A.O.S deck before you queue.

Why didn't Ronin get nerfed?

It keeps coming up on r/ClashRoyale. A thread asking "How is Ronin not nerfed yet?" drew 28 comments on October 17. Ronin wasn't in the October 6 notes at all. His most recent change was a buff in the September 8 balance update (hit speed 1.4s → 1.3s).

The community answer is fair: Ronin is built to beat heavy melee tanks. "The people I have ever seen complain about Ronin are MK players," one reply put it. If Ronin is beating you, play Golden Knight, Prince, Bandit or Goblin Cage against him. Those are the counters players named in the same thread. Our Mega Knight counter guide covers the other half of that matchup.

FAQ

What is the best Clash Royale deck in October 2026? Our pick is Goblin Barrel Log Bait. Goblin Barrel's first hit got faster (0.4s → 0.3s), Barbarian Barrel lost 8% damage, and a Goblin Barrel shell topped SeeMeta's weekly Ranked snapshot for October 10 to 17 at 58.2% over 1,944 games.

Did any cards get buffed in the October 2026 balance update? Yes, eight: Lava Hound, Goblin Barrel, Goblin Drill, Ram Rider, Wall Breakers, X-Bow, Monk and Three Musketeers. Supercell's pre-patch announcement said October would be nerfs only, but the notes that shipped on October 6 include a full buffs section.

Is Lava Hound good now? Yes. Its damage rose 33% per Supercell's notes (53 → 71) while its hit speed slowed to 1.5s, which works out to about 16% more damage per second. LavaLoon is the deck that gained the most raw power this month.

Is Minion Giant still good after the nerf? Still playable, but weaker. Its hit speed slowed from 1.5s to 1.7s, and three of the cards it is usually paired with (Evo Cannon, Barbarian Barrel and Skeletons) were nerfed in the same patch.

What's the best free-to-play deck this month? Hog 2.6 Cycle. Seven of its eight cards are Commons or Rares, which are much easier to collect copies of, it rewards timing over card levels, and Skeletons is the only card in it the October patch touched.

How many trophies do I need for Ranked in October 2026? 13,500 on Trophy Road. The requirement rises to 14,000 in November. Reaching Champion league in Ranked the previous season also grants entry without the trophy grind.
