How to Prestige in Tarkov PvE (1.2.0.0): The Reset Explained, What Carries Over & What Gets Deleted (2026)

Quick answer (TLDR): Patch 1.2.0.0 (live now) added Prestige to the PvE Zone. To prestige you meet the requirement screen for your next level, then reset your PvE-only profile in exchange for permanent rewards. There are six Prestige levels; requirements get harder each tier, and the first level has reduced requirements vs PvP. You keep gear, character skills and weapon mastery up to 50% (varies by level — the in-game screen is the final word), plus permanent rewards like TarCoins, a unique Gamma secure container, unique dogtags and melee weapons. Anything you don't move onto the transfer grid is deleted, and your Arena progression is untouched. Resetting from scratch is a grind — if you want roubles, levels and Kappa back fast, we rebuild all of it.

Battlestate finally shipped PvE Prestige with Escape from Tarkov 1.2.0.0, and the PvE subreddit lit up the moment it went live — half the threads are players asking the same two questions: how do I actually do it, and what will I lose? This guide answers both against the official 1.2.0.0 patch notes, plus the live transfer rules players are reporting on day one.

If you've been sitting on a maxed PvE profile since the 1.0 release, the first Prestige is also the only clean way onto the current progression framework — so it's worth understanding before you click confirm.

What is PvE Prestige in Tarkov 1.2.0.0?

Prestige is a voluntary profile reset for the PvE Zone. You start Tarkov over again — traders, quests and level back to the beginning — but you keep a slice of your progression and earn a permanent set of rewards that a normal wipe never gives you.

The key framing from the patch notes: each Prestige level resets your profile progression only in the PvE Zone. It is not an account wipe. Your PvP profile, your Seasonal progress and your Escape from Tarkov: Arena character are all untouched.

There are six Prestige levels in 1.2.0.0. Battlestate states the requirements "become more demanding with later Prestige levels," so clearing Prestige 1 does not mean Prestige 2 uses the same checklist.

How to Prestige in PvE: step by step

  • Reach the requirements for your next level. Open the Prestige screen in-game and read the requirement list for the level you're attempting — it's the authoritative checklist, not any guide (including this one).
  • Finish anything you'd regret losing. Burn down the quests, Hideout builds and FIR items you still want credit for on this profile. After the reset they're gone.
  • Move what you want to keep onto the transfer grid. On day one players report an 8×3 transfer grid with the same restrictions as a PvP wipe — no secure container contents, no money, no keys, no weapons, no ammo, no equipped gear carry straight across in the normal sense. Only what fits the grid rules survives as items.
  • Submit. You can back out right up to the item-transfer page — but the moment you confirm the items, it's final. There is no undo.

A popular community workaround for gear you can't fit on the grid: drop it to a friend before you prestige and have them drop it back after. It's not officially supported, but it's what experienced players are doing to save high-value kit through the reset.

What you need to prestige (official requirements)

The patch notes list the types of requirements (exact numbers show on the in-game screen and scale per level):

  • A high character level
  • Completion of certain in-game tasks
  • Construction of certain Hideout zones
  • Completion of the main storyline
  • Holding certain items and a certain amount of money in your stash
  • Leveled character skills

Good news for veterans: the first PvE Prestige level has reduced requirements compared with PvP, which matters most if you kept the same PvE profile all the way through the 1.0 release.

What carries over after you prestige?

A loaded Escape from Tarkov stash — the kind of progression a Prestige reset puts on the line

Three retention areas are directly confirmed in the 1.2.0.0 notes:

Carries overDetail
Selected gearOnly what you move onto the transfer grid, under the same restrictions as a PvP wipe
Character skillsA percentage of your skill progress — up to 50%
Weapon masteryA percentage of mastery progress — up to 50%
Permanent Prestige rewardsA separate layer (see below) — unlocked, not "retained from the old profile"

A high-level Escape from Tarkov PMC — character level, skills and weapon mastery are the progression a Prestige keeps up to 50%

That "up to 50%" is a ceiling, not a guarantee. Some players on day one are reporting keeping roughly 10% of skills at the first level — which lines up with Battlestate's wording that retention varies by Prestige level. Treat the in-game confirmation screen as the real number for your specific reset.

What does not carry over: your roubles, your trader levels, your quest completions, your Hideout build state and anything you leave off the grid. Those reset or delete. If you want that economy and progression back quickly instead of re-grinding it, a boost is the shortcut — power-leveling and rouble top-ups rebuild the exact things Prestige strips out.

PvE Prestige rewards (usable in all modes)

Unlike a plain wipe, Prestige pays you. The 1.2.0.0 reward pool includes:

  • TarCoins
  • Unique dogtags
  • Unique Shooting Range targets
  • Unique Hideout posters
  • Unique melee weapons
  • Unique Tarko figurines
  • A unique Gamma secure container

Most of these are cosmetic flexes, but the unique Gamma secure container is the standout — a bigger/unique secure slot is a genuine economic edge raid after raid. Note the important distinction from the patch notes: permanent Prestige rewards are a separate layer from retained profile progress. A reward you unlock through PvE Prestige is not the same as an item or skill that survives inside the profile being reset — some of these rewards can even be used across game modes.

Does PvE Prestige give tasks to PvP or Seasonal?

No — and this tripped up a lot of players on launch day. The relationship only runs one direction:

  • PvP Prestige grants tasks to PvP, PvE and Seasonal.
  • PvE Prestige grants tasks to PvE only.

So if you prestiged in PvE expecting extra PvP or Seasonal tasks, that's working as intended — the modes are deliberately separated apart from account-linked cosmetics. If you want the cross-mode task bonus, it comes from prestiging on the PvP side.

Should you prestige your PvE profile right now?

A quick decision framework:

  • You're a returning/old-release PvE profile → the first Prestige is the cleanest way onto the current framework and unlocks the release content, storyline and the Icebreaker chapter. Strong yes once you've mopped up anything you care about.
  • You have a mature, loaded profile → weigh the permanent reward (especially the Gamma) against the cost of re-grinding roubles, quests and Hideout. Finish your FIR quests and record what you'll lose first.
  • You mostly play PvE casually → there's no rush. Prestige is permanent-progression chasing, not a required step.

Whatever you decide, the heavy part is the rebuild, not the reset. Finishing Kappa tasks, re-leveling and refilling your stash after a fresh start is dozens of hours.

FAQ

How do you prestige in Tarkov PvE? Reach the requirements for your next Prestige level (shown in-game), open the Prestige screen, move anything you want to keep onto the transfer grid, and confirm. The reset applies only to your PvE Zone profile. You can back out up to the item-transfer page, but confirming the items is final.

How many PvE Prestige levels are there in 1.2.0.0? Six. Requirements get more demanding at each higher level, and the first level has reduced requirements compared with PvP.

What carries over when you prestige in PvE? Selected gear you move onto the transfer grid, a percentage of your character skills and weapon mastery (up to 50%, varies by level), and the permanent Prestige rewards. Roubles, trader levels, quest completions and Hideout state reset. The in-game screen shows the exact retention for your level.

Does PvE Prestige reset my Arena or PvP character? No. The reset applies only to the PvE Zone profile. Your PvP profile, Seasonal progress and Escape from Tarkov: Arena character are not affected.

Does prestiging in PvE give me PvP or Seasonal tasks? No. PvE Prestige grants tasks to PvE only. PvP Prestige is the one that grants tasks across PvP, PvE and Seasonal.

What are the best PvE Prestige rewards? The unique Gamma secure container is the most valuable — a unique secure slot is a lasting economic edge. The rest (TarCoins, unique dogtags, melee weapons, figurines, Hideout posters, shooting-range targets) are mostly prestige cosmetics.

Should I prestige if I have an old PvE profile from the 1.0 release? Yes, it's the cleanest path onto the current progression framework and unlocks release content, the storyline and the Icebreaker chapter — just finish anything you'd regret losing first, because the old profile's quests and Hideout reset.
