The eight cards of the Clash Royale 2.6 Hog Cycle deck: Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Ice Spirit, Skeletons, Fireball and The Log

Updated October 22, 2026 · applies to Season 88 (Shocktober), the October 6 balance patch and the October 19 balance update.

Quick answer: 2.6 Hog Cycle is Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Ice Spirit, Skeletons, Fireball and The Log, an average of 2.6 Elixir (21 ÷ 8 = 2.625). In October 2026 the strongest version runs Evo Skeletons + Evo Cannon with Hero Musketeer (58.8% win rate over 13,689 battles on RoyaleTracker). You win by cycling back to Hog Rider faster than your opponent can rotate their counter, and by taking small, cheap trades on defense. Four balance changes since August hit the deck, so older guides undersell its weaknesses: Ice Spirit no longer chips towers by itself, Ice Golem has 1,228 HP, Fireball does 159 to Crown Towers, and Skeletons spawn differently.

2.6 Hog Cycle is the deck everyone has heard of and very few people play well. Reddit calls it brainless. The players who actually run it say the opposite. As one r/ClashRoyale player put it this week: "2.6 is 90% placement and one mistimed cannon means your tower is gone." This guide covers the current list, which Evolution and Hero slots to fill in Season 88, what each 2026 balance change did to the deck, and how to play the matchups you'll actually meet on the ladder.

Key takeaways

  • The deck: Hog Rider (4), Musketeer (4), Fireball (4), Cannon (3), Ice Golem (2), The Log (2), Ice Spirit (1), Skeletons (1). Average 2.6 Elixir, and cycling back to Hog Rider takes as little as 6 Elixir of cheap cards (Ice Spirit, Skeletons, Ice Golem, The Log).
  • Best October 2026 setup: Evo Skeletons in the Evolution slot, Evo Cannon in the Wild slot, Hero Musketeer in the Hero slot. RoyaleTracker lists that variant at 58.8% across 13,689 battles (RoyaleTracker: Hog Cycle).
  • Evo Cannon was nerfed on October 6: barrage damage 281 → 261 (−7%). Supercell still calls it a top building (October Balance Changes).
  • Skeletons changed twice in October: a tighter spawn on October 6, then spread 0.4 → 0.5 tiles on October 19, and they now "always split when placed on middle tiles."
  • Ice Spirit lost its Crown Tower damage in August, and Musketeer now kills it in one shot (Final August Balance Changes).
  • You need Arena 11 (Electro Valley) to unlock The Log, and Arena 10 for the Wild slot that holds the second Evolution.

What is the 2.6 Hog Cycle deck?

2.6 Hog Cycle is a fast cycle deck. It has one win condition, Hog Rider, and seven cheap cards whose job is to defend efficiently and get you back to Hog Rider before your opponent's counter comes back into their hand. You don't build big pushes. You make many small attacks, each worth 100 to 300 tower damage, and you win because your defense spends less Elixir than their offense.

The name comes from the average Elixir cost. Here is the full list, with Level 11 stats from the Clash Royale Wiki and the official 2026 patch notes.

Every card except The Log is Common or Rare, which is why 2.6 is still one of the easiest top decks to level. If you're below Arena 11, swap The Log for Giant Snowball, the same version we recommend in our best Arena 8 deck guide.

What changed for 2.6 Hog in 2026?

Clash Royale Skeletons card, the 1-Elixir cycle card whose spawn spread changed twice in October 2026

Four balance passes since August touched five of the eight cards. Hog Rider and Musketeer were not changed. Here's the summary.

DateChangeWhat it means for 2.6
Aug 2026All Spirits: HP 230 → 215, no longer connect to Crown Towers on their own, one-shot by Musketeer, Archers, Bomber, TeslaIce Spirit is now purely a defensive and support card. No more free cycle chip.
Aug 2026Hero Ice Golem's 3rd blast: Freeze → SlowSupercell said it "turned out to be too oppressive when combined with Hog Rider." Hero Ice Golem is now a weaker pick.
Sept 2026Ice Golem HP 1,315 → 1,228 (−7%), slow 2 s → 2.5 sIce Golem dies slightly faster on defense but slows longer.
Sept 2026Fireball Crown Tower damage 172 → 159 (−8%)Fireball-to-finish math is worse. You need more Hog hits before you can spell the tower down.

Oct 19 2026Skeletons spread 0.4 → 0.5 tilesSkeletons always split on middle tiles. Use that to pull, but they die easier to splash.

Supercell's own wording on the October 6 Cannon nerf explains why the deck is still playable: "Its barrage will still take out Dart Goblin, but be slightly less effective against big pushes." That's exactly what 2.6 wants. Evo Cannon was never meant to stop a Golem beatdown alone. It's there to win cheap trades.

Which Evolutions and Hero should you use in 2.6 Hog?

Clash Royale Musketeer card, the 2.6 deck's main air defense and Hero or Evolution candidate

Since the March 2026 update every deck has three special slots: one Evolution slot (Arena 3), one Hero slot (Arena 5) and one Wild slot (Arena 10) that holds either an Evolution or a Hero. Four of the 2.6 cards have an Evolution and two have a Hero form.

OptionSlotWhat it doesVerdict for 2.6
Evo SkeletonsEvolutionGrows the group up to 8 skeletonsBest Evo. 1 Elixir that can stall a whole push.
Evo CannonEvolution / WildFires a barrage (261 damage after Oct 6)Best second Evo. Clears Dart Goblin and support troops.
Evo MusketeerEvolution / Wild3 infinite-range snipes at 1.8× damage, can't snipe Crown TowersGood if you don't have Evo Cannon.
Evo Ice SpiritEvolution / WildSecond freezeFine, but weaker since the Spirit nerf.
Hero MusketeerHeroTrusty Turret ability, 3 Elixir: places a 1,536 HP turret for 10 sBest Hero. Doubles your air defense on demand.
Hero Ice GolemHeroSnowstorm ability, 2 Elixir; 3rd blast slows (no longer freezes)Playable, worse since August.

Our pick for October 2026: Evo Skeletons (Evolution slot) + Evo Cannon (Wild slot) + Hero Musketeer (Hero slot). That's the variant RoyaleTracker lists at 58.8% over 13,689 battles. Remember that since the August 4, 2026 balance changes, Hero abilities fire once per deployment, with no cooldown. So Trusty Turret is a one-time answer each time you play Hero Musketeer. Save it for a Balloon, Lava Hound or a big air push, not a lone Minion.

Not everyone agrees on the Musketeer. One r/ClashRoyale player this week wrote: "I find evo musketeer a lot better than hero musketeer here, try getting hero ice golem." That works if you don't own the Hero yet. Evo Musketeer's snipes cover the same air threats. Just don't stack it with Evo Cannon and Evo Skeletons. You only have two slots that take Evolutions.

Between Arena 5 and Arena 10? You only get one Evolution and one Hero. Run Evo Skeletons + Hero Musketeer.

How do you play 2.6 Hog Cycle?

The opening (first 30 seconds)

Don't open with Hog Rider at the bridge unless you've seen their deck. Start with a cheap card at the back: Ice Golem or Skeletons behind your King Tower, or Ice Spirit in the corner. You give away nothing and learn their first card. If they open with a big tank at the back, go Hog Rider + Ice Spirit in the opposite lane right away. That's the classic punish.

Attacking with Hog Rider

Your standard push is Hog Rider + Ice Spirit (5 Elixir) or Hog Rider + Ice Golem (6 Elixir). Ice Spirit freezes the building or troop that's defending. Ice Golem walks in front and soaks Crown Tower shots. At Level 11 Hog Rider has 1,697 HP and hits for 317, so one or two connects per push is a good result.

Keep two rules in mind:

  • Don't spend more than 6 Elixir on one push. If they defend for 3 Elixir and you spent 7, you're losing.
  • Count their Hog counter. If they just used their building or Mini P.E.K.K.A., you have about three cards before it's back in their hand. That's your window.

Defending

Most of your defense is Cannon + one cheap card. Place the Cannon in the middle, four tiles from the river, so it pulls Hog Riders, Giants, Golems and Royal Giants into range of both towers. Back it up with Skeletons to distract, or Musketeer behind the tower.

The October 19 change matters here. Skeletons placed on the middle tiles now always split to both sides. That's good for pulling a single target off-center. It's bad against splash: a single Log, Bomber or Valkyrie hit now catches more of them.

Spell math

The Log clears Goblin Gang, Princess, Dart Goblin and Skeleton Army. Fireball does not one-shot a same-level Musketeer, Wizard or Witch (they survive on a sliver), so aim it where your Crown Tower or The Log can finish them, and use it to soften Executioner or a Three Musketeers split. Late in the game, Fireball deals 159 to a Crown Tower and The Log deals 35. If a tower is under about 194 HP, a Fireball + Log combo finishes it. Before the September nerf it was 207. Many old guides still use the old number.

How do you beat the common matchups?

Clash Royale Cannon card, the 3-Elixir defensive building in 2.6 Hog Cycle

They playDifficultyHow to win
Golem / Lava Hound beatdownFavorablePunish in the opposite lane every time they drop a tank at the back. Save Hero Musketeer's turret for Lava Hound pups and Balloon.
Mega KnightEvenPull it with Cannon, finish with Skeletons + Musketeer. Never play Hog when Mega Knight is in their hand. See our Mega Knight counter guide.
Log Bait (Goblin Barrel)EvenHold The Log for Goblin Barrel. Clear Princess with Ice Spirit or Fireball when it's an Elixir trade. Goblin Barrel was buffed on Oct 6 (first hit 0.4 s → 0.3 s), so place your Log early.
X-Bow / MortarHardIce Golem tanks for Hog on the X-Bow. Get a Hog onto the building before it locks on. X-Bow was buffed on Oct 6.
Minion GiantFavorableMusketeer + Cannon handle it. It was nerfed twice in October (hit speed 1.5 s → 1.7 s, then damage 168 → 153).
Other cycle decksMirrorWhoever wastes less Elixir wins. Don't overcommit, and keep your Cannon for their Hog.

If you're struggling against Mega Knight decks on the ladder, swap Skeletons for Electro Spirit only as a last resort. Electro Spirit lost its Crown Tower damage too. Most top players keep Skeletons.

Is 2.6 Hog Cycle still good in October 2026?

Yes. It's a top-tier deck if you can play it, and a trap if you can't. RoyaleTracker's October data puts hog cycle among the strongest archetypes, and the Evo Skeletons + Evo Cannon + Hero Musketeer version leads at 58.8% over 13,689 battles. DeckShop's page for the classic list with no Evolution choices flags it as affected by the October Skeleton rework. Our read: the deck is still strong, but only with the right Evolutions.

Who should play it:

  • You want a deck that stays useful from Arena 11 all the way to Ranked. (Ranked needs 13,500 trophies in October 2026, rising to 14,000 in November; see how to unlock Ranked.)
  • You're free-to-play. Seven of the eight cards are Common or Rare.
  • You're willing to practice placement in friendly battles before you take it to the ladder.

Who should skip it: anyone who prefers big pushes. Try a beatdown list from our best Clash Royale decks for October 2026 instead.

FAQ

What cards are in 2.6 Hog Cycle? Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Ice Spirit, Skeletons, Fireball and The Log. The average Elixir is 2.625, which rounds to 2.6.

What is the best Evolution for 2.6 Hog? Evo Skeletons in the Evolution slot, with Evo Cannon in the Wild slot once you reach Arena 10. Evo Cannon's barrage was cut from 281 to 261 damage on October 6, 2026, but it's still the best second Evolution for this deck.

Is Hero Musketeer or Evo Musketeer better in 2.6? Hero Musketeer is the stronger pick in October 2026 data. Its Trusty Turret (3 Elixir) gives you a second air defense once per deployment. Evo Musketeer is a good alternative if you don't own the Hero, but it takes one of your two Evolution-capable slots.

Does Ice Spirit still do damage to towers? Not on its own. Since the August 2026 balance changes, Spirits no longer connect to Crown Towers by themselves. Ice Spirit still freezes and damages troops, so it remains in the deck as a cheap defensive and support card.

Can I play 2.6 Hog without The Log? Yes. The Log unlocks at Arena 11 (Electro Valley). Before that, use Giant Snowball in the same slot. It costs the same 2 Elixir and also knocks back small troops.

Why do I keep losing with 2.6 Hog? Usually Cannon placement and overspending. Practice the middle Cannon placement, don't attack with more than 6 Elixir, and track when your opponent's Hog counter is back in their hand. Higher card levels won't fix bad placement.
