To hit a low driven shot in FC 27, set your shot power, then press the shot button a second time. On default controls that means Circle twice on PlayStation or B twice on Xbox. The same second tap turns a finesse shot, a power shot or a trivela into its low driven version. Players widely call it the strongest finish in the game, especially to the near post, and EA has admitted that near-post low drivens "can be stronger than other options". It hasn't nerfed them, though.
This guide covers EA SPORTS FC 27 in Season 2 (22 October to 3 December 2026). Title Update 1.1.0 has been live since 27 October, and EA's first gameplay balance update, 1.2.0, is due in mid-November. Below you'll find every low driven input for PS5 and Xbox, what EA actually changed about the shot this year, why near-post finishes beat keepers, which players carry the PlayStyle, what the 25,000-coin Low Driven Shot+ Evolution gets you, and how to stop the shot when you're defending.
TLDR: the FC 27 low driven shot in 30 seconds. Input: set your power with Shoot (Circle / B), then tap Shoot again. Add it to a finesse shot (R1 / RB + Shoot), a power shot (L1 + R1 / LB + RB + Shoot) or a trivela (L2 / LT + Shoot), but not to a chip. Where: inside the box, aimed low at the near post. EA's own help page says it's for "close-range or one-on-one chances". Is it overpowered? EA said on 30 September that low driven shots to the near post "can be stronger than other options", but that it's "pretty happy" with the shooting and keeper balance. Will it be nerfed? Not in 1.2.0. EA's 28 October notes list "the accuracy of specific shot types alongside goalkeeper positioning" as an ongoing investigation, separate from the update. PlayStyle+: Low Driven Shot+ costs 25,000 coins or 250 FC Points in the PlayStyle+ Lab, Star Performer items only. Defending it: a keeper with the Footwork PlayStyle, which EA says improves saves against low shots.

How do you do a low driven shot in FC 27?
EA's Help article on shooting describes the input for FC 27 and FC 26 in one line: "you can add Low Driven to most shot types by pressing the shot input again after setting your shot power" (EA Help). You don't hold a modifier. You charge the shot as normal, then tap the same button again once the power is set.
EA's article doesn't print button names, because it depends on your controller setup. These are the defaults from the in-game attacking controls, as listed by Pro Clubs HQ on 11 October (Pro Clubs HQ):
| Shot | PlayStation | Xbox | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low driven shot | Circle (power), Circle again | B (power), B again | Nothing extra |
| Low driven finesse shot | R1 + Circle, then Circle again | RB + B, then B again | Nothing extra |
| Low driven power shot | L1 + R1 + Circle, then Circle again | LB + RB + B, then B again | Nothing extra |
| Low driven trivela (flair shot) | L2 + Circle, then Circle again | LT + B, then B again | Gamechanger PlayStyle |
| Chip shot | L1 + Circle | LB + B | Can't be low driven |
Three rules from EA's Help page are worth knowing before you practise:
- You can't low drive a chip. EA says so directly: "You can't add the Low Driven modifier to a Chip Shot."
- The trivela needs Gamechanger. Without Gamechanger or Gamechanger+, your player hits the ball with the top of the foot instead of the outside.
- It also works in the air. To hit a low driven volley or header, "press the shot input again after setting your shot power", the same as on the ground.
If your buttons don't match the table, check them in game: pause, go to Settings, then Basic Controls. You can also practise with no pressure in the Practice Arena (Main Menu, Learn to Play), which EA recommends for trying shot types.
When should you use a low driven shot?
EA's Help page says to use it "when you want to keep your shot low, especially for close-range or one-on-one chances." That matches what players report. The shot works best inside the penalty area, at an angle, aimed low across the keeper's nearest post.
A few practical rules from player reports and guides:
- Shoot from inside the box. From range, a low shot gives the keeper time to react. As one player pointed out in a thread complaining about the shot, at least you have to be in the box to use it.
- Don't over-hit it. The second tap is what keeps the ball down, so from close range you don't need a full power bar. EA's Help page advises less power closer to goal for every shot type.
- Go near post when the keeper has to move across. The finish works best when the keeper is still shifting to cover the angle, which is exactly the situation EA describes.
- Use the low driven finesse on the far side. If the near post is covered, the finesse version curls low to the far post instead of floating.
The low driven power shot has a longer wind-up, and EA's Help page warns that power shots give defenders "more time to challenge your player". Keep it for when you have a yard of space.
Is the low driven shot overpowered in FC 27?
EA has said the near-post version is strong, and players agree. In its launch gameplay update on 30 September, EA wrote: "We've seen feedback that low driven shots, particularly towards the near post, can be stronger than other options. One of our core philosophies is that players should be rewarded for earning a shot from a dangerous area. We're pretty happy with the current balance between shooting and goalkeeping, but we'll continue to monitor your feedback and our data for any potential outliers" (EA, 30 September).
So EA's position is that the shot is strong because you've earned a good position, not because the shot itself is broken.
The community reading on r/EASportsFC is more interesting than the complaint. In a thread calling near-post low drivens "the most infuriating mechanic in FC history", a common counterpoint wasn't that the shot is too good. It was that keepers are too good against every other shot type, so players default to the one finish that still beats them. Another player argued that nerfing the near post would only make sense if EA also rebalanced every other shot type against keepers (r/EASportsFC). One commenter claimed low driven shots and through balls make up more than half of all shots and passes. Treat that as a guess: EA publishes no shot-type usage data.
That fits the PlayStyle nerfs EA made before launch. In FC 27, EA reined in Finesse Shot so that spin, animation speed and off-angle effectiveness "scale more consistently based on the player taking the shot" (EA Gameplay Deep Dive). The long-range finesse stopped being automatic, so close-range low drivens became the default way to score. Our PlayStyles guide covers all ten PlayStyle changes.
What did EA change about Low Driven Shot in FC 27?
Before launch, EA cut its speed boost. The Gameplay Deep Dive (29 July) lists the Low Driven change in three lines: EA "Removed the shot speed boost previously applied to low-driven shots", shot velocity "now scales purely based on core shooting Attributes and input power", and "The Playstyle and PlayStyle+ still add an accuracy boost."
There's a catch: EA's own pages disagree about it. EA's PlayStyles explainer, published on 25 September, still describes Low Driven Shot as giving "increased accuracy, faster ball travel, and quicker shot execution" (EA PlayStyles article). The FC 27 ratings database uses the same wording. EA hasn't explained the difference. The Deep Dive is the only page that describes a change, so it's the better guide to how the shot behaves: the badge adds accuracy, and your player's shooting attributes plus your power input set the speed.
That has a practical consequence. A low driven shot from a player with high Shot Power and Finishing is fast with or without the PlayStyle. What the PlayStyle adds is the accuracy that keeps it on target. That's why the shot still feels quick from elite strikers, even though the badge itself no longer adds speed.
Will EA nerf the low driven shot?
Not in the next update. On 28 October, EA's October Gameplay Developer Notes set out the changes coming in Title Update 1.2.0 in mid-November: fullback positioning, offside awareness, attacking AI runs, fewer goals from kick-off and loose-ball switching (EA, 28 October). Shooting isn't on that list.
It is in the section after it. Under "Ongoing Investigations", EA lists "Assessing the accuracy of specific shot types alongside goalkeeper positioning", and adds: "These areas require careful investigation and testing. Changes to one gameplay system can have an impact on others, so we will be deliberate before deciding the level of adjustment needed."
Read the two statements together:
- 30 September: EA is "pretty happy" with the balance and will keep monitoring.
- 28 October: EA is now actively assessing shot-type accuracy, and it's tying that to goalkeeper positioning, not only to the shot.
That second part matters. It echoes the Reddit argument that the fix may be in how keepers cover the near post, not in the shot itself. Our Title Update 1.2.0 breakdown covers the whole update.
EA scheduled a live Discord Q&A with its gameplay team for 30 October. As of 31 October, there's no written recap of it on ea.com. If one appears with a shooting answer, we'll add it here. Until EA announces a change in patch notes, the low driven shot works the way it does today. That means it's still worth learning now, not something to avoid because a nerf might come.

Which players have the Low Driven Shot PlayStyle?
EA's FC 27 ratings site lists every player with the PlayStyle. The highest rated are Kylian Mbappé (91), Harry Kane (90), Ousmane Dembélé (90), Khadija Shaw (90) and Vini Jr. (89) (EA ratings). Other big names in the top 100 include Ewa Pajor, Achraf Hakimi, Luis Díaz, Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, Julián Alvarez, Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres and Cole Palmer.
We grouped EA's top 100 holders by position:
- 40 are strikers and 39 play wide (LW, RW, LM or RM)
- 15 are CAMs
- only 6 play elsewhere (CM, full-back or CB)
- 36 of the 100 also have Gamechanger, so they can hit the low driven trivela
These are base ratings, between 78 and 91 OVR. Ultimate Team special items and Evolutions change the picture. Check the PlayStyles on the exact card you own.
How do you get Low Driven Shot+ in Ultimate Team?
There are three ways to get it in Ultimate Team: a card that already has it, an Evolution that adds it, or the PlayStyle+ Lab. EA confirms that "there may be opportunities to add a PlayStyle or PlayStyle+ through the use of Evolutions" (EA PlayStyles article). The most direct route right now is the Lab.
The PlayStyle+ Lab opened on 17 October, when EA released "the first UEFA Star Performers that are eligible for PlayStyle+ upgrades." fut.gg's Evolution listing shows the costs (fut.gg):
- Low Driven Shot+ Evolution: 25,000 coins or 250 FC Points
- Eligibility: Star Performer items only, with 0 existing PlayStyle+
- Repeatable, live until 30 September 2027
- No matches needed. It's a single level that applies the PlayStyle+.
There are 36 PlayStyle+ Evos in the Lab, in three price tiers. Low Driven Shot+ is in the top tier at 25,000 coins, with eight others: Finesse Shot+, Anticipate+, Intercept+, Technical+, Incisive Pass+, Quick Step+, Rapid+ and Pinged Pass+. Power Shot+, Gamechanger+ and Footwork+ cost 10,000. Dead Ball+, Chip Shot+ and Precision Header+ cost 5,000. EA's pricing tells you which PlayStyles+ it considers the most valuable.
Is it worth 25,000 coins? It is if your Star Performer is the striker or winger who takes most of your shots, because it's an accuracy upgrade on your most-used finish. It's harder to justify on a CAM who mostly passes. Because the speed now comes from attributes, put it on a player with high Shot Power and Finishing. Putting it on a weak shooter mostly gives you an accurate slow shot. Our PlayStyle+ Lab explainer covers how the Lab and Star Performers work.
How do you defend against low driven shots?
Start with your keeper. EA's description of the Footwork goalkeeper PlayStyle is the closest thing in the game to a direct counter: "Exclusive foot save animations and increased performance against low trajectory shots." Footwork+ gives "even better performance against low trajectory shots." In the Lab, Footwork+ is a 10,000-coin Evolution, also restricted to Star Performer keepers.
Outfield, the shot is only dangerous once the attacker is in the box at an angle, so the fix is earlier than the shot:
- Show the attacker away from the near-post lane. Use jockey and manual positioning to push them toward the byline or across the box, not into a shooting angle.
- Don't dive in. Players complain most about attackers who turn in the box and shoot straight away. A missed tackle hands them the angle.
- Cover the cut-back. If you over-commit to the near post, the low driven finesse goes far side.
Our FC 27 manual defending guide explains the jockey and contain inputs that make this work, and the 4-3-1-2 guide shows how to stop narrow teams getting into the box in the first place.
How does the low driven shot help in Rivals and Champions?
In competitive modes, one reliable finish is worth more than ten flashy ones. Division Rivals rewards are based on weekly points, so turning one-on-ones into goals adds up over a week. The same goes for Champions Qualification Points, which FC 27 awards through Rivals and Squad Battles.
The practical plan:
- Practise the second tap in the Practice Arena until you don't have to think about it.
- Use it inside the box at an angle, and keep the far-post finesse version ready for when the near post is covered.
- Build your attack around a finisher with the PlayStyle, ideally one with high Shot Power, since that now sets the speed.
- Check your keeper's PlayStyles. If you concede near-post goals every match, a Footwork keeper is the targeted fix.
Our Rivals rewards guide shows what each division pays, and the Champions qualification guide explains how CQP works in FC 27.

FAQ
How do you do a low driven shot in FC 27 on PS5? Hold Circle to set the power, then press Circle again. For a low driven finesse shot, use R1 + Circle, then Circle again. For a low driven power shot, use L1 + R1 + Circle, then Circle again.
How do you do a low driven shot in FC 27 on Xbox? Hold B to set the power, then press B again. For a low driven finesse shot, use RB + B, then B again. For a low driven power shot, use LB + RB + B, then B again.
Do you need the Low Driven Shot PlayStyle to hit a low driven shot? No. Any player can hit one. EA says the PlayStyle and PlayStyle+ add an accuracy boost, and since FC 27 the shot's speed comes from your player's shooting attributes and how much power you put on it.
Was the low driven shot nerfed in FC 27? Yes, before launch. EA's Gameplay Deep Dive removed the PlayStyle's shot-speed boost. EA hasn't changed it since: Title Updates 1.0.3, 1.0.4 and 1.1.0 made no gameplay balance changes, and shot types aren't part of the 1.2.0 changes EA announced for mid-November.
Why are near-post low driven shots so strong in FC 27? EA says players should be rewarded for earning a shot from a dangerous area, and it has confirmed that near-post low drivens can be stronger than other shots. Many players think the cause is keepers saving most other shot types, which makes the near post the most reliable finish. On 28 October, EA said it's assessing shot-type accuracy alongside goalkeeper positioning.
How much is Low Driven Shot+ in the PlayStyle+ Lab? 25,000 coins or 250 FC Points, according to fut.gg's listing. It only works on Star Performer items with no existing PlayStyle+, it's repeatable, and it's live until 30 September 2027.
