Is It Safe to Buy WoW Forever Gold? Temporary Economy Holds, 3 Blizzard Posts and What We Do

WoW Forever gold buying rules and Temporary Economy Holds

Quick answer: No purchase of World of Warcraft: Forever gold is free of risk. Buying gold from any third party breaks Blizzard's rules, and Blizzard said on September 28, 2026 that it "will increasingly take action against buyers' accounts." Since October 13, a suspected account can get a Temporary Economy Hold, which locks trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House during a review. Timesaver's WoW Forever gold starts from $20.95 and is handed over by hand within 30 minutes, 5 to 900 gold per order, with no account login. If a hold is placed on your order or the gold is removed, we refund the full order price.

Most pages that answer this question are written either by Blizzard, which says don't, or by gold sellers, which say it's fine. This page sets out what Blizzard has actually written, with dates and links, what the risk looks like in practice, and what we do about it. Prices for every service are on all WoW Forever prices.

What has Blizzard said about buying gold in WoW Forever?

Three posts by community manager Kaivax on the official forums set out the rules. All three are about WoW Forever, and the quotes below are word for word.

Date (UTC)Blizzard postKey line
Sep 28, 2026Gold buying rules"we will increasingly take action against buyers' accounts"
Oct 1, 2026Actions Taken Against Botting and RMT"subject to the gold being removed, account suspensions, or permanent account closures"
Oct 13, 2026Temporary Economy Holds For RMT"restricted use of trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House"

September 28: buyers are in scope

The first post moved the focus from sellers to buyers. Kaivax wrote that Blizzard "will remove the illicit gold from the recipient," with further actions that can include closing accounts. The test is whether the buyer "knew or should-have-known that gold wasn't from a legitimate source." Paying a website for gold meets that test.

October 1: what the penalties are

The second post listed the consequences for anyone "found to have purchased or knowingly received illicit gold": gold removal, suspensions or permanent closure. It also described a new warning on the trade window: "you could put your account at risk of closure." The post gave no ban numbers.

October 13: Temporary Economy Holds

The third post introduced the hold. An account suspected of real-money trading gets restricted use of trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House while Blizzard investigates. Three lines from the post matter most:

  • The hold is "automatically removed when the actions that triggered it have been investigated and found false."
  • "There may be false positives while things are fine tuned."
  • A hold leaves "no permanent strikes against your account unless also later proven."

So a hold is not a ban. It freezes the account's ability to move gold until a review finishes. If the review confirms RMT, the penalties from the October 1 post apply.

Is it safe to buy WoW Forever gold, then?

Honestly: no gold purchase is safe in the sense of carrying no risk. The risk sits with the account that receives the gold, and no seller can take it away. What a seller can change is how likely a handover is to be flagged, and what happens to your money if it is.

From Blizzard's posts and how these systems work, three things raise the chance of a flag:

  • Large transfers to a fresh character. A level 20 character suddenly holding raid-sized gold stands out.
  • Gold from accounts already flagged. If the seller's character is caught, the gold it moved can be traced.
  • Unusual movement patterns. An auction bought at many times its value is the textbook RMT handover.

Blizzard hasn't published its triggers, so that list is our reading, not a Blizzard statement. Our older guide on what Economy Holds mean for TBC Anniversary gold covers the same mechanics from the Anniversary side.

What Timesaver does

Here is how our WoW Forever gold orders work and what we do if Blizzard acts. Full detail is on how delivery works in WoW Forever and WoW Forever account safety.

What we doWhy
5 to 900 gold per orderSmall handovers on a fresh economy draw less attention; order again and we stagger hand-offs
Face-to-face trade or in-game mail onlyNo Auction House handovers, since the Auction House is one of the things a hold locks
Gold farmed by hand, handed over by a personNo bot-farmed gold; Blizzard's October 1 post was about botting and RMT together
Handover within 30 minutes, trader assigned within 20 minutesShort pickup window, details only in the order chat
No account loginYou stay on your own character; we never ask for a password or authenticator code
Refund if a hold lands or gold is removedYou don't carry the cost of a hold on our order

Our refund rule, word for word: If a Temporary Economy Hold is placed on your order or the gold is removed, we refund the full order price. Send the in-game notice or a screenshot within 14 days.

A refund returns your money. It doesn't lift a hold and doesn't reverse an account action. That is why we tell you about the risk before you buy, not after.

What we ask you to do

  • Keep it out of public channels. No trade chat, no general chat, no guild chat about the order.
  • Meet somewhere quiet for a trade, not at the Auction House or in a capital.
  • Never return gold to someone who whispers asking for it back. That is a common scam.
  • Don't accept gold from strangers, and don't move the gold through the Auction House at an inflated price.
  • Pick the right faction and ruleset. A trade needs two characters of the same faction on the same ruleset.

Is there a way to skip the grind without buying gold?

Yes. A service that moves no gold can't trigger an Economy Hold, because a hold is about gold flows. WoW Forever power leveling starts from $208.99 with a guaranteed 12 days for 1 to 60. That doesn't make a boost permitted: Blizzard's rules also prohibit paid boosting and account sharing, and that risk, too, sits with the account owner. Piloted boosters sign in through a dedicated IP address in your country and keep it for the whole order. Every service is on the WoW Forever hub.

If you do buy gold, the price and the per-order limits of other sellers are compared in our WoW Forever gold price guide.
