Updated November 4, 2026 (launch day): rebuilt with the real numbers. Blizzard's November 2 development notes put class training at 206 to 207 gold from 1 to 60 for every class, and the beta client showed riding at 100 gold for level 40 and 1,000 gold for level 60, with your first mount included at 40. Our September version said the prices were not announced; that is no longer true.

This full loadout costs $742.93 on Timesaver and is delivered within 12 days — see all WoW Forever prices.

Quick answer: In WoW Forever your first mount comes at level 40 and costs 100 gold. You pay it to your race's riding trainer for Apprentice Riding (+60% speed), and the trainer hands you a basic mount of your race at no extra charge. Journeyman Riding (+100%) comes at level 60 and costs 1,000 gold. It unlocks epic mounts but, unlike the first tier, no source we found says it gives you one; Method lists epic mounts at about 200 gold each. Add Blizzard's official 206-207 gold for all class training from 1 to 60 and training plus both riding tiers costs about 1,306 gold, or about 1,506 gold with a 200-gold epic mount. Honored reputation with your home faction takes 10% off riding.

TL;DR

  • Level 40, 100 gold: Apprentice Riding, +60% ground speed, racial mount included.
  • Level 60, 1,000 gold: Journeyman Riding, +100% ground speed. Epic mounts cost about 200 gold more (Method).
  • 206-207 gold: Blizzard's official total for all class training from 1 to 60, the same for every class.
  • About 1,306 gold at full price for training plus both riding tiers, about 1,506 with a 200-gold epic mount. Honored takes 10% off riding and racial mounts.
  • Store mounts don't skip the bill. The Cerulean Prideclaw and the Veteran Adventurer's bear still need the riding skill.
  • Nobody starts with savings. Forever is a fresh economy, and Blizzard has announced no gold or character transfer from Classic Era, Season of Discovery or Anniversary.

How much does a mount cost in WoW Forever?

Forever uses the Burning Crusade model, which Blizzard confirmed back in the Forever Deep Dive recap. The game is "adopting the Burning Crusade-style mount-cost approach, shifting the up-front mount cost into training and granting a mount when players learn the riding skill." You pay one fee at the riding trainer and walk away mounted.

The beta gave us the price tags. On the official forums, a player in the class mounts thread summed up what the client showed: training for the 60% mount reads 100g and training for the 100% mount reads 1,000g. Method's mount guide reports the same figures from its beta testing.

TierLevelSpeedCost (before discounts)What you get
Apprentice Riding40+60%100 goldSkill plus a basic mount of your race
Journeyman Riding60+100%1,000 goldSkill only; no source reports a free epic mount
Extra racial mount colors40+60%about 20 gold each (Method)Cosmetic only
Epic mounts60+100%about 200 gold each (Method)Your 100% mount, unless you already own one

These are beta-client prices. Blizzard has not printed them in a news article, so we will confirm them against the live trainers once Forever opens tonight. The first-mount total matches original Classic at about 100 gold. The difference is that the money now goes to the trainer and the first mount is free, so you can't save by buying the skill and skipping the mount. At 60 the 1,000 gold is for the skill alone, with the epic mount on top.

What level do you get a mount in WoW Forever?

Level 40 for your first mount and level 60 for the epic one. Blizzard did not lower the riding level for Forever, and it is one of the most argued-about decisions on the official forums. One thread, titled "Riding needs to be at level 20 not level 40", ran for pages during the beta. Some players proposed a slow early mount around level 20 or 30, while others argued the walking is part of the Classic pace. Blizzard has not changed it.

You buy riding from the trainer of your own race, back in your starting area. Method reports that Honored reputation with your home faction takes 10% off both the riding skill and your racial mounts. Method notes that you can't ride other races' mounts until you reach Exalted with that race, so a Gnome can't buy a horse in Elwynn on day one.

What does Blizzard's new class training cost change?

This is the number that was missing from every mount-cost guide until this week. In the Nov 2 development notes, Blizzard community manager Kaivax listed the change:

"Total cost to train class abilities from 1-60 is now between 206 and 207 gold for all classes." (Kaivax, Development Notes, updated November 2)

The same notes say most abilities learned at the same level now cost the same to train (Priest race-specific spells are the exception), and Warlock costs are reduced by the expected cost of buying pet Grimoires. In practice, no class has a cheaper road to 60 anymore. Mages and Warriors pay the same as everyone else.

Why it matters for your mount: training gold and riding gold come out of the same small pile. Blizzard has not published a level-by-level training table, so we can't tell you exactly how much of the 206-207 gold you'll have spent by level 40. What we can say is that the 100 gold for riding comes on top of your training spend up to that point, not instead of it.

How much gold should you save in WoW Forever?

Here is the full-price budget, using Blizzard's official training total and the beta riding prices:

GoalClass trainingRiding and mountsTotal at full priceWith Honored (10% off riding and racial mounts)
First mount at 40your spend so far (part of 206-207g)100g100g + training to date90g + training to date
Journeyman Riding at 60206-207g100g + 1,000gabout 1,306gabout 1,196g
Journeyman plus a 200g epic mount206-207g100g + 1,000g + 200gabout 1,506gabout 1,376g

Professions, repairs, consumables and the auction house come on top. Method also lists the Bartering Legacy talent as up to 10% off mount purchases, but not off the riding skill itself, so it only helps with mounts you buy from a vendor, such as the epic.

Three things make this harder on Forever than on an old Classic realm:

  • The economy starts empty. Every character on every ruleset begins at level 1 tonight. No main can fund an alt yet, and the auction house has no supply.
  • No transfer has been announced. Blizzard has not offered any transfer of gold or characters from Classic Era, Season of Discovery or Anniversary. Your bank on those realms stays there.
  • No WoW Token has been announced for Forever. Blizzard has only said there will be "other ways to advance and grow at level 60" to be announced later.

So the 1,000 gold epic riding, plus the mount, is a real wall. On original Classic plenty of players hit 60 nowhere near that much, and with the same totals on an empty economy, Forever will likely be no different.

Do store mounts or class mounts skip the riding cost?

Store mounts don't. The Cerulean Prideclaw (from the $29.99 Skyborne Heroic Pack up) and the Veteran Adventurer's bear (Epic Pack and Collection) are cosmetic. Blizzard's pre-purchase article says players "will need to purchase the riding skill in-game to access and use this mount." Method notes beta data lists the Prideclaw as a level 60 mount, so it may not work at 40. If a pack mount runs at epic speed, it could save you the 200-gold epic mount at 60; check that on live before you plan around it. Our Collector's Edition vs digital packs breakdown lists what each pack includes.

Class mounts are the open question. Paladins and Warlocks get a free mount from a class quest at level 40, as in Classic. Method describes the Alliance Paladin quest and says the Horde version could not be tested in the beta. Whether that quest also gives you Apprentice Riding, or whether you still pay the trainer 100 gold, is reported differently by different guides and wasn't settled in the level-30-capped beta. Keep the 100 gold ready until the first live Paladins and Warlocks reach 40.

Both classes also have level 60 epic mount questlines. Method says those need reagents worth hundreds of gold, so they can be cheaper than 1,000 gold but they aren't free.

How do you get 100 gold by level 40?

Plan for it from the start:

  • Pick a gathering profession. Skinning, Mining and Herbalism make gold from the first zone on, and early materials sell well on an empty auction house. Our best professions guide ranks the pairs.
  • Train what you use. With every class paying 206-207 gold, skipping ranks you don't use is the easiest saving. Check your rotation before you visit the trainer.
  • Vendor and sell everything. Grey items go to the vendor. Whites and greens other players need go to the auction house while prices are high in launch week.
  • Use your Legacy Points well. Legacy Points are shared account-wide and spent per character, and the Professions tree has Bountiful Harvest for more gathered materials. See our Legacy system explainer.
  • Don't overspend on gear. Greens from the auction house in your 30s cost the same gold you need for riding.

Does WoW Forever have flying mounts?

No. Forever is set in Vanilla-era Azeroth with a permanent level 60 cap, and Blizzard has only described ground riding tiers. The launch announcement and the roadmap through summer 2027 don't mention flying. Ground speed is the whole game: 60% at 40, 100% at 60.

Fund your riding before the wall

Forever opens tonight at 3:00 p.m. PST. Everyone starts broke and everyone reaches the level 40 trainer around the same time.

FAQ

Can I buy this loadout instead of farming it? Yes: this loadout costs $742.93 on Timesaver, and a Timesaver pro completes it by hand within 12 days. How handover works and what happens if something goes wrong: account safety.

How much does a mount cost in WoW Forever? 100 gold at level 40 for Apprentice Riding, with a basic racial mount included, and 1,000 gold at level 60 for Journeyman Riding. Epic mounts cost about 200 gold more each, per Method. These are the beta-client prices; Honored reputation with your home faction takes 10% off.

What level can you ride in WoW Forever? Level 40 for your first mount (+60% speed) and level 60 for an epic mount (+100%). Blizzard kept Classic's riding levels despite long forum threads asking for an earlier mount.

Do you have to buy the mount separately in WoW Forever? No. Forever uses the Burning Crusade-style model Blizzard confirmed in the Deep Dive: the cost is in the riding training, and the trainer gives you a basic mount when you learn Apprentice Riding. Extra colors cost about 20 gold each, and epic mounts at 60 are a separate purchase of about 200 gold.

How much does class training cost in WoW Forever? Blizzard's November 2 development notes say all class training from 1 to 60 costs between 206 and 207 gold for every class. Warlock costs are reduced to account for pet Grimoires.

How much gold do I need for an epic mount in WoW Forever? About 1,506 gold at full price: class training (206-207g), Apprentice Riding (100g), Journeyman Riding (1,000g) and a 200-gold epic mount. Without the mount it is about 1,306 gold. Honored reputation lowers those to about 1,376 and 1,196 gold.

Do Skyborne pack mounts let you skip riding training? No. The Cerulean Prideclaw and the Veteran Adventurer's bear are cosmetic mounts. You still need to learn the riding skill before you can use them.

Do Paladins and Warlocks get a free mount in WoW Forever? Both classes get a class mount from a quest at level 40. Whether that quest also teaches Apprentice Riding hasn't been settled yet, so keep 100 gold ready until live players confirm it.

Is there flying in WoW Forever? No. Forever has ground mounts only, at 60% and 100% speed, and nothing in Blizzard's roadmap through summer 2027 mentions flying.
