The Blood of Dawnwalker has been out since September 3, 2026, so the length question finally has a measured answer instead of a developer estimate. As of October 29, 2026, players on HowLongToBeat have logged 621 completions, and the site's estimates come in well under the 50–70 hours Rebel Wolves quoted before launch. This guide was rebuilt on October 29 with that real player data, plus the post-launch changes that affect your clock: Update 1.1's new Story difficulty, the endings and the still-undated New Game Plus.
Quick answer (as of October 29, 2026): According to HowLongToBeat, The Blood of Dawnwalker takes about 24 hours if you focus on the main objective, about 35½ hours if you also do a good share of side content, and about 51½ hours for 100% completion. Rebel Wolves' own pre-launch figure was 50–70 hours. A deliberate rush on the lowest difficulty can reach an ending in under 10 hours. A thorough run that also chases every exclusive branch and trophy can pass 100 hours, because some content only opens on a different save.
How long does it take to beat The Blood of Dawnwalker?
The best single source for real completion times is HowLongToBeat, which averages times that players submit themselves. Here is what its Dawnwalker page showed on October 29, 2026:
| Play style (HowLongToBeat) | HLTB estimate | Rushed to leisure range | Timed submissions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main Story | ~24 hours | ~16 to ~40 hours | 67 |
| Main + Sides | ~35½ hours | ~23 to ~53 hours | 308 |
| Completionist | ~51½ hours | ~40 to ~79 hours | 55 |
| All play styles | ~36 hours | — | 430 |
Ranges are HowLongToBeat's "rushed" and "leisure" estimates, not the single fastest or slowest records, converted from its raw data and rounded. Of the 621 players who marked the game as beaten, 430 also submitted a play time, which is why the polled counts are smaller. The site updates continuously, so expect these to drift by an hour or two.
Two things stand out. First, Main + Sides is by far the biggest sample: 308 of the 430 timed runs. That fits a game where most people naturally do a lot of optional quests, so ~35 hours is the most realistic number for a typical first playthrough. Second, Main Story only has 67 submissions, so treat 24 hours as a solid ballpark rather than a precise figure.
Press guides that timed their own runs land in the same range. Game Rant puts a natural playthrough at 20 to 25 hours. Polygon says a relaxed run on a normal difficulty will be strong enough for the finale "after about 30 hours of playtime. This means you'll reach an ending around day 20."
Why is it shorter than the 50–70 hours Rebel Wolves estimated?
Before launch, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz gave a much bigger number. He told Shacknews in July 2026:
"When we're looking for people to play in the studio, like our studio head or guys from marketing, and so on, it took them between 50–70 hours to finish the game." — Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Rebel Wolves (Shacknews, July 2026)
That figure wasn't necessarily wrong. The likeliest explanation is that it measured a different kind of player: testers who used much more of the 30-day budget, which in Dawnwalker is optional. HowLongToBeat's leisure estimates point the same way: about 53 hours for Main + Sides and about 79 hours for Completionist. Those numbers sit inside or above the developer's range.
The gap comes from the game's structure. There is no fixed main quest you have to follow to the end. After the prologue, Coen's goal is to rescue his family from the vampire lord Brencis at Castle Greifberg, and you can head for that finale whenever you feel ready. Players who do that early finish in the 20s. Players who spend most of the 30 days and nights questing land closer to the studio's 50–70.
How does the 30-day time system change your playtime?
Coen gets 30 days and 30 nights to save his family, but that is a budget, not a real-time timer. Walking, exploring and talking don't burn time. Only committing to a quest or another major activity moves the clock forward, and the game shows you the cost before you commit. The developer-written PlayStation Blog deep dive (July 7, 2026) explains that between dawn and sunset, "the day is divided into 8 parts". IGN's launch guide counts roughly 16 time segments across a full day-and-night cycle. For the full mechanics, see our time system explainer.
That makes in-game days a poor stand-in for hours:
- Hours stack up even while the calendar stands still. You can spend an evening exploring Vale Sangora without moving the clock at all. TheGamer noted: "by day 10, I was already over 15 hours into the game and had covered only about a third of the map."
- The finale is open long before day 30. Endings guides show the endgame can be reached in under 10 in-game days if you push straight for Brencis.
- Running the clock out is its own ending. If you let more than 30 days pass, you get the Time Runs Out outcome. It changes Coen's objective rather than throwing up a game-over screen. See what happens when time runs out.
Practical takeaway: if you want the full experience, spend your days on quests that interest you and don't rush the finale. If you're short on free time, the time system lets you finish a satisfying run in a long weekend.
How long is the prologue?
The prologue is the one part of the game everyone plays. Polygon estimates it "should normally take about three hours to complete" if you explore and use every time segment for questing. It also notes you can skip time until the Blood Mass to shorten it, at the cost of missing some early content. Some of that early content can't be done later, so check our missable items and content guide before skipping ahead.
Does difficulty change how long Dawnwalker takes?
Yes, more than in most RPGs, because stronger enemies push you to spend more days levelling and gearing up before Greifberg. Since Update 1.1 (October 22, 2026) there are five difficulty presets:
| Preset (Update 1.1) | What it means for your playtime |
|---|---|
| Story (new in 1.1) | Adds extra combat assist on top of the old easiest mode. Fastest route to an ending |
| Forgiving | The pre-1.1 "Story" mode, renamed |
| Fair | The standard experience |
| Challenging | Tougher fights. Expect to spend more days preparing |
| Duelist | Hardest. Needed for the "Uphill Battle" trophy |
Rebel Wolves' 1.1 patch notes describe the change in one line: "Pick between the Forgiving game difficulty (previously called Story) and a new Story mode with additional combat assist." The notes don't say exactly what the extra assist does, so we won't guess. Polygon says that even "in a mad rush, you should still count on five to 10 hours." On Challenging or Duelist, Polygon expects you'll "need the full 30 days" to get strong enough, which means 50+ hours.
You can change the preset at any time. One exception: touching any difficulty slider on Duelist turns the preset into "Custom" and voids Uphill Battle. Full breakdown: all 5 difficulty modes explained.
How long does 100% completion and the Platinum take?
This is where the numbers spread out most, because "100%" means different things in this game:
- HowLongToBeat Completionist: ~51½ hours (55 timed submissions; about 40 hours rushed to 79 hours at a leisurely pace). This is roughly one very thorough playthrough.
- Seeing everything: 100+ hours. Dawnwalker is designed so you can't do everything in one 30-day run. TheGamer notes that "even the prologue has more quests than can be completed in the allotted time." Its estimate for doing it all, including reloading saves, is "over 100 hours… closer to 120 hours."
- Platinum / all achievements: ~40–60 hours if planned properly, per PowerPyx's trophy roadmap. There are 47 trophies on PS5 and 46 achievements on Steam and Xbox. The planned route is in our trophy guide.
The big multiplier is the endings. PowerPyx counts 7: 4 full story endings, 2 early endings and Time Runs Out. Other outlets group them differently, and PC Gamer counts 8. Finishing one of the full endings sends you back to the title screen, with no free roam after the credits. The main endings branch inside the final quest, "A Deal with the Devil", so a manual save before it lets you replay that branch quickly. The early and alternate endings (such as the prologue Brencis outcome and Time Runs Out) need earlier saves, so don't expect every ending from a single pre-finale save. Plan your saves with our all endings guide.
Is there New Game Plus to extend it?
Not yet. As of October 29, 2026, New Game Plus is planned but has no release date. Tomaszkiewicz said on an official stream, "And then there's this New Game Plus. That's how it'll be" (MP1st). In October, Rebel Wolves repeated to press that it intends to add Photo Mode and New Game Plus (Inven Global, October 21, 2026). Neither arrived in Update 1.1. For now, replaying means starting a fresh save. Track it here: New Game Plus status.
How should you plan your own playthrough?
Pick the row that matches how you play:
| You are… | Plan for | How to play it |
|---|---|---|
| Short on time | 10–16 hours | Story preset, a few court quests, then Greifberg |
| Typical first-timer | 25–35 hours | Fair preset, follow quests that interest you, finish around day 20 |
| Explorer | 40–55 hours | Use most of the 30 days, clear regions, recruit allies |
| Completionist / trophy hunter | 55–120 hours | Duelist run first, save before "A Deal with the Devil", reload for endings |
A few tips that save real hours:
- Keep several manual saves at major story points. Autosaves alone make ending hunts and missable quests much slower.
- Don't grind. Most XP comes from quests, story progress and activities you'll do anyway, so clear fights and lairs along the route to your next objective rather than farming. Our levelling guide explains why grinding wastes time.
- Prioritise quests that weaken Brencis's court. They make the finale easier and shorten the gearing-up phase. Our side quests guide shows which ones are worth the time.
- Update to 1.1 before a long run. It shipped a long list of quest fixes and closed the infinite-money beehive exploit, so your run won't depend on bugs that were patched mid-playthrough.
FAQ
How many hours is The Blood of Dawnwalker? According to HowLongToBeat as of October 29, 2026, it takes about 24 hours for the main objective, 35½ hours with extras and 51½ hours for 100% completion. Its largest sample, Main + Sides, lands around 35 hours.
Can you beat The Blood of Dawnwalker in 10 hours? Yes. After the prologue you can go after Brencis whenever you like. Polygon says even a rushed run should "count on five to 10 hours," and HowLongToBeat's rushed main-story estimate is about 16 hours. You'll miss most of the game's content doing it.
Is The Blood of Dawnwalker longer than 50 hours? Only if you play slowly or go for completion. The 50–70 hour figure came from Rebel Wolves' internal testers before launch. HowLongToBeat's Main + Sides estimate is about 35½ hours, and its leisure Completionist estimate is about 79 hours.
Do the 30 in-game days limit how many hours you can play? No. In-game days only advance when you commit to quests and major activities. Exploring and travelling don't spend time, so the number of real hours you play isn't capped by the calendar.
How long does it take to get every ending? PowerPyx counts 7 endings (other outlets count 8). The main ones branch in the final quest "A Deal with the Devil", so a save before it makes those quick to replay. The early and alternate endings need earlier saves. A planned run that collects every trophy takes roughly 40–60 hours.
Will New Game Plus make the game longer? New Game Plus is planned but has no release date as of October 29, 2026, and it wasn't included in Update 1.1.
