How to Respec in The Blood of Dawnwalker: Where to Buy the Draught of Mind Rebirth

For the first seven weeks after launch, every skill point you spent in The Blood of Dawnwalker was permanent. Higher-tier abilities also cost an hourglass time segment, so a bad pick cost you twice. Update 1.1 fixed that. It went live on October 22, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and added the Draught of Mind Rebirth, a potion that wipes your learned abilities so you can rebuild Coen. This guide covers where to buy it, roughly what it costs, how the reset screen works (including the time-segment rule that confuses almost everyone the first time), and what the potion does and doesn't give back.

Quick answer: Yes, you can respec in The Blood of Dawnwalker since Update 1.1 (October 22, 2026). Buy a Draught of Mind Rebirth from Anca (the easiest seller, available early) or the Matriarch in Uriash Village. Rock Paper Shotgun also confirmed it at other Witchcraft vendors, including Vera, at "more than 1,000 coppers". Drinking it lets you forget all Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism abilities and re-spend the points and time segments you used on them. You must assign every returned time segment before the game lets you confirm. It doesn't give you extra days on the 30-day calendar. As of October 24, 2026, Rebel Wolves hasn't said whether you can buy more than one.

Can you respec in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Yes, as long as you're on version 1.1 or later. Rebel Wolves released Update 1.1 through Steam news on October 22, 2026 at 09:17 UTC, with no date announced in advance. The first item in its feature list is the respec, described word for word as:

"Forget all your Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism abilities, and use the time you spent learning them to master a different set of abilities." — Rebel Wolves, Update 1.1 patch notes

Before 1.1 there was no respec of any kind: no menu option, no shrine service and no NPC. If you're still on an older build (an offline console, or a Steam install with updates paused), the Draught won't show up in any shop. Update first. Our Update 1.1 patch notes breakdown lists everything else that shipped with it.

Skill picks mattered so much before because of three rules that 1.1 didn't change:

  • One Ultimate per tree. Each of the three trees has 3 Ultimates (9 in total), and learning one locks the other two in that tree. Swordmastery and Witchcraft Ultimates need 35 points spent on that tree's perks, and Vampirism Ultimates unlock at Corruption 15.
  • Level cap of 50. You can't fill every tree in one save, so every point you put in one tree is a point another tree doesn't get.
  • Big abilities cost time. The higher tiers cost a skill point plus an hourglass time segment, and spending time segments moves the 30-day clock forward.

The Draught is the only official way to undo those choices without starting a new campaign.

You can't craft it and you don't get it from a quest. You buy it from a merchant. Neither the 1.1 patch notes nor Rebel Wolves has published an official vendor list, so everything below comes from players and press who checked the live patch in its first 48 hours:

SellerStatus (as of Oct 24, 2026)Notes
AncaConfirmed by players and Rock Paper ShotgunThe easiest one to reach. One player put it this way: Anca "is available from the start and not as easy to lose." Look in her trade menu, not her dialogue.
The Matriarch, Uriash VillageConfirmed (first one found, October 22)Takes a while to reach. RPS says she's "impossible to barter with until much later in the game," and depending on your quest choices she may not be available in your save at all.
Other Witchcraft vendors, including VeraReported by Rock Paper ShotgunRPS: "You can purchase Blood of Dawnwalker's respec potion from any of the four Witchcraft Vendors." At least one player found the Witchcraft vendor outside Svartrau didn't have it, so stock may rotate.

Rock Paper Shotgun has the clearest summary: "Folks initially thought you could only buy it from the Matriarch in Uriash Village, but after more investigation, we can confirm other Witchcraft Vendors sell it, including Vera." It also admits it can't say "if it rotates in and out of stock like some of the other randomly available wares". If you see a Draught and can afford it, buy it straight away instead of planning to come back later.

If you can't find it: check that the game shows version 1.1. Then open Anca's trade inventory and search for the exact item name. If you lost access to Anca through story choices, try the Matriarch or a Witchcraft vendor such as Vera, and check again after time passes if one is sold out.

How much does the respec potion cost?

It's not cheap. Rock Paper Shotgun reports that "each vendor charged more than 1,000 coppers for the potion." The patch notes don't list a fixed price, and merchant prices can vary, so go by the number in your own shop window.

1.1 includes two economy changes that help:

  • Buyback is new. The patch notes add a "Buyback" feature when you trade with merchants. If you sell gear to afford the Draught and regret it, you can buy it back.
  • Upgrade costs were rebalanced. 1.1 "rebalanced the cost of upgrading items, especially on higher levels". The notes don't say which way the costs moved, so check your own upgrade prices before you spend over 1,000 coppers on the Draught. Our crafting and upgrade guide covers where the money goes.

How do you respec with the Draught of Mind Rebirth?

The reset screen is where most people get stuck. Here's the full sequence:

  • Make a manual save. Dawnwalker uses one ongoing save and has no New Game Plus. A save right before you drink is your only way to undo a bad rebuild.
  • Plan the new build first. Pick your target Ultimate in each tree and the perks you'll take on the way there. Our skill tree guide lists all three trees.
  • Drink the Draught from your inventory. Your learned abilities are removed and the points and time segments you spent on them come back to you.
  • Re-spend everything, including every time segment. The prompt says "spend used time segments again." Rock Paper Shotgun points out what it should really say: "you have to spend all your used time segments again. You can't just drink the potion and re-spend one or two segments." The confirm button stays disabled until no returned time segments are left.
  • Accept the changes. Nothing takes effect until you confirm. Then check your radial wheel and assigned abilities before your next fight.

The time-segment trap. One player explained it: "make sure you exhaust all the time segments it gives you because i went though the whole trouble of assigning skill points but had a few time segments left and it doesnt let you continue unless you use those up also." Another player pointed out why it feels odd: you nearly always have more skill points than time segments. So plan the time-costing abilities first. Put the returned segments into the tiers that need them, then fill the remaining cheap picks with points.

Want to change just one skill? You still have to rebuild the whole thing. RPS suggests the workaround: "change that one and then invest the remaining points in whatever you were already happy with." Take a screenshot of your current trees before you drink so you can copy them back.

What does the respec reset, and what does it keep?

Which trees does it reset? All three: Swordmastery, Witchcraft and VampirismOfficial patch notes
Does it refund time segments?Yes. You re-spend them on skills, and they must all be used before confirmingRPS + player reports
Does it give back days on the 30-day calendar? No evidence it does. The returned time is for learning skills. Finished quests stay finishedPatch wording, theclick.gg
Does it lower Corruption? Not mentioned anywhere. Assume noPatch notes are silent
Is it repeatable / does it restock?Unconfirmed. RPS can't say whether stock rotates. One player thinks it's one-timeRPS + player report
Does it affect achievements or trophies? One player reports the skill-tree achievement didn't unlock after a respecPlayer report, unverified

Before the patch came out, some outlets read "use the time you spent learning them" as a rewind of the 30-day clock. That isn't how the live potion works. You get your skill-learning time segments back to spend on abilities, not extra calendar days. If you're close to the deadline, the respec won't save you from the ending that triggers when time runs out.

The Corruption row matters for vampire builds. Corruption is permanent, only ever goes up, and gates the Vampirism tree (its Ultimates need Corruption 15). Nothing in the patch suggests the Draught touches it. A day-focused player moving into Vampirism keeps the Corruption they've already built, and our vampirism abilities guide shows which night powers that level unlocks.

Should you respec?

Respec if:

  • You picked the wrong Ultimate. You only get one per tree, and the Draught is the only official way to switch.
  • Your points are spread across all three trees. An even split usually leaves you with no strong tree. Our best build guide uses Swordmastery as the core because it works day and night.
  • Your playstyle changed. Lots of players start on hexes and then find most of their fights happen at night. Moving points from Witchcraft into Vampirism is exactly what the Draught is for.
  • A boss is walling you. A build aimed at one fight can help more than dropping the difficulty. It's worth trying before Xanthe or the final Brencis fight.

Skip it if:

  • Your build already works. It's an expensive four-figure potion, and stock may not come back.
  • You're simply under-levelled. A respec moves points around. It doesn't add any. Clear Monster Lairs and side quests along your route instead (see how to level up fast).
  • You're chasing achievements. Until the achievement report above is confirmed or ruled out, finish any skill-tree achievement before you respec.

If combat is the real problem, 1.1 also renamed the old Story difficulty to Forgiving and added a new Story mode with extra combat assist. That gives five presets: Story, Forgiving, Fair, Challenging and Duelist. Our difficulty settings guide compares them.

FAQ

Can you respec in The Blood of Dawnwalker? Yes, since Update 1.1 (October 22, 2026). Buy a Draught of Mind Rebirth from a merchant and drink it to forget all Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism abilities, then re-spend your points and time segments.

Where do I get the Draught of Mind Rebirth? Anca sells it and is the easiest option early on. The Matriarch in Uriash Village also sells it, and Rock Paper Shotgun confirmed other Witchcraft vendors, including Vera, carry it. Stock may rotate, so buy it when you see it.

How much does the respec potion cost? Rock Paper Shotgun reports "more than 1,000 coppers" per potion. The patch notes don't list a fixed price, so check your own shop.

Why can't I confirm my respec? You still have unassigned time segments. The game makes you spend every returned time segment before you can accept the new build. Plan the time-costing abilities first, then fill in the rest with points.

Does the respec give back days on the 30-day clock? There's no evidence it does. It returns the time segments you spent learning abilities so you can learn different ones, and finished quests stay finished.

Can you use the Draught more than once? Not confirmed as of October 24, 2026. Neither Rebel Wolves nor the press has confirmed restocks, so make a manual save before each use.

The Draught makes a bad skill pick much less permanent, but it isn't free, and the reset screen punishes you if you don't plan. Save, screenshot your trees, plan your time-segment abilities first, and buy the potion from Anca as soon as you can afford it.
