Most DBD map lists you will find are a screenshot gallery with no numbers in them. This one is built from the game's own measured tile data, so you can see exactly which map is bigger than which, which ones are indoor, and which of them you will actually load into during a ranked Trial. Everything below is checked against live Patch 10.1.2 on September 17, 2026.
Quick answer: Dead by Daylight currently has 46 maps across 21 realms, plus 8 sub-realms. Only 45 of those maps appear in standard Trials, because the original Raccoon City Police Station is now exclusive to the 2v8 game mode. The largest maps you can load into in ranked 1v4 are Shelter Woods and Azarov's Resting Place at 176 square tiles (11,264 square metres); the smallest measured map is Treatment Theatre at 98 square tiles (6,272 square metres). The newest map is Trickster's Delusion, added in Patch 9.5.0, and the next one, The Mall, is scheduled for December 2026.
How many maps are in Dead by Daylight?
The Dead by Daylight Wiki's realm index states it plainly: there are currently 21 realms and 46 maps in the game, a figure that "excludes all Map Variations". That is the count to quote, and it is also the one most third-party lists get wrong, because they either fold variations into the total or forget that one map was pulled out of the standard rotation entirely.
Three definitions are worth getting straight before the list, because the game uses them differently than players do:
- A realm is the themed pocket of The Entity's world. It is not itself playable. MacMillan Estate is a realm.
- A map is the playable environment inside a realm. Coal Tower is a map.
- A map variation was a re-tiled version of an existing map, marked with a Roman numeral. Variations were disabled for ranked Trials in Patch 8.6.0 and now only appear in Custom Games. The two Raccoon City wing maps were exempt from that change and both stayed playable.
So when you see "Shelter Woods II" in a data table, that is a variation, not a 47th map.
Every DBD map by realm
Here is the full list, realm by realm, in the order the game's own realm index uses.
| Realm | Maps |
|---|---|
| The MacMillan Estate | Coal Tower, Groaning Storehouse, Ironworks of Misery, Shelter Woods, Suffocation Pit |
| Autohaven Wreckers | Azarov's Resting Place, Blood Lodge, Gas Heaven, Wreckers' Yard, Wretched Shop |
| Coldwind Farm | Fractured Cowshed, Rancid Abattoir, Rotten Fields, The Thompson House, Torment Creek |
| Crotus Prenn Asylum | Disturbed Ward, Father Campbell's Chapel |
| Haddonfield | Lampkin Lane |
| Backwater Swamp | The Pale Rose, Grim Pantry |
| Léry's Memorial Institute | Treatment Theatre |
| Red Forest | Mother's Dwelling, The Temple of Purgation |
| Springwood | Badham Preschool |
| Gideon Meat Plant | The Game |
| Yamaoka Estate | Family Residence, Sanctum of Wrath |
| Ormond | Mount Ormond Resort, Ormond Lake Mine |
| Hawkins National Laboratory | The Underground Complex |
| Grave of Glenvale | Dead Dawg Saloon |
| Silent Hill | Midwich Elementary School |
| Raccoon City | Raccoon City Police Station, Raccoon City Police Station East Wing, Raccoon City Police Station West Wing |
| Forsaken Boneyard | Dead Sands, Eyrie of Crows |
| Withered Isle | Garden of Joy, Greenville Square, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, Fallen Refuge |
| The Decimated Borgo | The Shattered Square, Forgotten Ruins |
| Dvarka Deepwood | Toba Landing, Nostromo Wreckage |
| Sleepless District | Trickster's Delusion |
Eight realms carry a single map each, which matters for offerings: a realm offering for Haddonfield, Léry's Memorial Institute, Springwood, Gideon Meat Plant, Hawkins National Laboratory, Grave of Glenvale, Silent Hill or Sleepless District effectively picks the exact map, because there is nothing else in that realm to roll.
On top of those 21 realms there are 8 sub-realms that are not part of the normal map pool: The Campfire, The Dream World, The Ethereal Plane, The Otherworld, The Overlaps, The Spirit World, The Upside Down, and The Void.
The map you cannot actually get
The original Raccoon City Police Station is the catch that breaks most lists. It was added in Patch 5.0.0 with the Resident Evil chapter, retired in Patch 6.2.0 and split into the two smaller wing maps, then brought back for the third iteration of 2v8 in Patch 8.5.1. As the wiki puts it, "It remains exclusive to that Game Mode now."
That is why the honest number for a normal Trial is 45, not 46. If you queue 1v4 you will only ever see the East Wing and West Wing versions. The full station only shows up in 2v8.
What is the biggest map in Dead by Daylight?
The wiki measures maps in square tiles, where one square tile is an 8 by 8 metre area, defined as the length of a single outer wall segment. That gives a directly comparable number rather than a vibe.
Here is the verified ranking of every measured map, with 2v8 supersized versions marked. Map variations beyond the first are excluded, since they no longer appear in ranked Trials.
| Rank | Map | Square tiles | Area (m²) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mother's Dwelling (2v8) | 200 | 12,800 |
| 2 | Rancid Abattoir (2v8), Sanctum of Wrath (2v8) | 192 | 12,288 |
| 3 | Disturbed Ward (2v8) | 188 | 12,032 |
| 4 | Suffocation Pit, Azarov's Resting Place, Gas Heaven, Family Residence (all 2v8) | 184 | 11,776 |
| 5 | Coal Tower, Shelter Woods, The Thompson House, Torment Creek, Father Campbell's Chapel, Mount Ormond Resort, Dead Dawg Saloon (all 2v8) | 180 | 11,520 |
| 6 | Shelter Woods, Azarov's Resting Place, Wreckers' Yard (2v8) | 176 | 11,264 |
| 7 | Grim Pantry | 168 | 10,752 |
| 8 | Wretched Shop, Garden of Joy | 164 | 10,496 |
| 9 | The Pale Rose | 161 | 10,304 |
| 10 | Ironworks of Misery, Suffocation Pit, Rotten Fields, Greenville Square | 160 | 10,240 |
| 11 | Groaning Storehouse, Blood Lodge, Gas Heaven, Torment Creek, Family Residence, Sanctum of Wrath, Mount Ormond Resort | 156 | 9,984 |
| 12 | Fractured Cowshed, The Thompson House, Disturbed Ward, Mother's Dwelling, Nostromo Wreckage | 152 | 9,728 |
| 13 | Eyrie of Crows, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza | 148 | 9,472 |
| 14 | Wreckers' Yard, Badham Preschool, The Shattered Square | 144 | 9,216 |
| 15 | The Game | 142 | 9,088 |
| 16 | Rancid Abattoir, Father Campbell's Chapel, Dead Sands | 140 | 8,960 |
| 17 | The Underground Complex | 138 | 8,832 |
| 18 | The Temple of Purgation, Dead Dawg Saloon, Toba Landing | 136 | 8,704 |
| 19 | Coal Tower, Lampkin Lane, Forgotten Ruins, Ormond Lake Mine | 132 | 8,448 |
| 20 | Fallen Refuge | 128 | 8,192 |
| 21 | Midwich Elementary School | 113.5 | 7,264 |
| 22 | Treatment Theatre | 98 | 6,272 |
Two useful takeaways from that table. First, the 2v8 supersized variants dominate the top six ranks, so the "this map is enormous" feeling in 2v8 is real, not perception. Second, in ranked 1v4 the gap between the biggest and smallest map is roughly 176 down to 98 square tiles, meaning the largest playable map is close to 1.8 times the area of the smallest one. That alone explains why mobility killers feel mandatory on Shelter Woods and optional on Midwich.
Also worth knowing: several maps used to be far bigger and were deliberately cut down. The Pale Rose went from 284 to 215 square tiles, Mother's Dwelling from 188 to 152 in Patch 7.4.0, Disturbed Ward from 172 to 152 in Patch 9.2.0, and Grim Pantry from 178 to its current 168. If a veteran tells you Backwater Swamp used to be miserable, the numbers back them up.
The three Raccoon City maps and Trickster's Delusion are absent from the size table entirely. Indoor and multi-floor maps cannot be measured by counting outer wall segments, which is exactly why the wiki's own methodology note flags them as excessively difficult to measure.
Which DBD maps are indoor maps?
Indoor maps change the game more than any size number does: no line of sight across the map, no aura reading through walls at range, and hooks that are much easier to patrol. There are currently seven of them in the game.
- Treatment Theatre in Léry's Memorial Institute, the very first indoor map in Dead by Daylight
- The Game in Gideon Meat Plant, the second indoor map, and the only two-floor meat plant
- Midwich Elementary School in Silent Hill
- The Underground Complex in Hawkins National Laboratory
- Raccoon City Police Station, plus its East Wing and West Wing versions
Treatment Theatre at 98 square tiles and Midwich at 113.5 are the two smallest measured maps in the game, which is not a coincidence. Indoor maps are built tight on purpose. If your killer relies on long sightlines or big map traversal, those two are the worst possible rolls, and the current killer tier list shifts noticeably on them.
What is the newest DBD map, and what is coming next?
The newest map in the game is Trickster's Delusion, the single map of the Sleepless District realm, added in Patch 9.5.0 alongside the All-Kill: Comeback chapter on 17 March 2026. Before it, Fallen Refuge joined Withered Isle in Patch 9.1.0.
The next one is already announced. The Mall is an upcoming indoor map, and the wiki's page for it states it is "set to be implemented in December 2026". It was announced at the Tenth Anniversary Livestream on 14 June 2026, and has been described as an indoor map designed like an outdoor one, mixing a shopping mall with liminal spaces: a fountain-like structure, shops, and long empty hallways meant to feel nostalgic and unsettling at once.
One correction worth making, because it is currently wrong on the source most aggregators copy: the realm index still says a new realm and map are coming in the "upcoming All-Kill: Comeback" chapter. All-Kill: Comeback already released on 17 March 2026, and the realm and map it delivered are Sleepless District and Trickster's Delusion, which are already counted in the 21 and 46 above. There is no pending 22nd realm from that chapter.
Did Patch 10.2.0 change any maps?
No new maps and no map reworks are in the 10.2.0 Public Test Build. What it does carry is 18 environment and map bug fixes, which is a large number for a single patch and tells you where the current layout problems are. The named ones include a collision issue in Greenville Square, The Houndmaster's dog being unable to vault the shack window from the outside in Crotus Prenn Asylum and on one side of the barn in Fractured Cowshed, survivors being unable to heal each other on the main-structure stairs of Toba Landing, a maze tile in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza that failed to spawn its window and pallets, and three separate Trickster's Delusion fixes covering mis-spawned pallets, an out-of-reach ghost pallet, and the killer spawning inside an object.
Those are PTB values, not live. Live Trials are still on the 10.1.2 bugfix patch. The full 10.2.0 patch notes breakdown covers the perk and killer side of the same build.
How does DBD choose your map?
The Entity picks randomly from all available maps, with two systems layered on top.
Realm Repeat Prevention is the one currently in use, introduced in Patch 8.5.0. It replaced the older Map Repeat Prevention system, which ran from Patch 6.6.0 until Patch 8.4.2. The distinction matters: the developers switched because loading into a different map inside the same realm still felt repetitive, since maps in a realm share the same assets, fog, sky colour and palette.
Under the current system, the chance of playing the same realm back-to-back is reduced to zero, and the chance of playing recently played realms is reduced to unlikely levels, but not zero. So a Coldwind streak is still possible, just far less likely than it was before 8.5.0.
Realm offerings bias the roll but do not guarantee it. Two offerings are the exception and target a specific map rather than a realm: Alien Flora and Airlock Doors.
One naming trap: maps versus the Map item
Searching for "DBD map" will also surface the survivor Map item, which is a completely different thing. It never shows you a layout. Since its Patch 9.1.0 rework it reveals the auras of nearby pallets and windows when used, and its secondary ability drops a Beam of Light marker that is visible and audible only to survivors and reveals nearby generator auras to the whole team. The playable environments in this article are what the game calls realms and maps, and the wiki itself splits them onto separate pages for exactly this reason.
FAQ
How many maps does Dead by Daylight have in 2026? 46 maps across 21 realms, excluding map variations, as of live Patch 10.1.2 on September 17, 2026. Only 45 of them can appear in a standard 1v4 Trial.
What is the biggest map in DBD? Mother's Dwelling in its 2v8 supersized version, at 200 square tiles or 12,800 square metres. In ranked 1v4, the largest are Shelter Woods and Azarov's Resting Place at 176 square tiles or 11,264 square metres.
What is the smallest map in DBD? Treatment Theatre, at 98 square tiles or 6,272 square metres. Midwich Elementary School is second smallest at 113.5 square tiles.
How many indoor maps are in Dead by Daylight? Seven: Treatment Theatre, The Game, Midwich Elementary School, The Underground Complex, and the three Raccoon City Police Station versions. The Mall will make it eight in December 2026.
Why can I never get the full Raccoon City Police Station map? It was retired from standard Trials in Patch 6.2.0 and replaced by the East Wing and West Wing versions. The original returned in Patch 8.5.1 for 2v8 and remains exclusive to that game mode.
Are map variations still in the game? Not in ranked Trials. Patch 8.6.0 disabled them, leaving only the original version of each map in the pool, with the two Raccoon City wings exempt. Variations can still be picked in Custom Games.
What is the next new DBD map? The Mall, an indoor map announced at the Tenth Anniversary Livestream on 14 June 2026 and set for December 2026.
