TL;DR: Is Infinity confirmed for Diablo 4 Season 16, and what is its recipe? As of November 5, 2026, Blizzard’s published Season 16 preview does not specifically confirm Infinity’s return. The verified Season 15 recipe is 2 Ber + 1 Mal + 1 Ist + 1 compatible Common weapon, transmuted in the Horadric Cube. Its current effect includes a 50% chance to cast Chain Lightning when you kill an enemy, plus bonuses against Close enemies. Until Blizzard confirms the returning content, treat these as Season 15 reference mechanics. Blizzard’s Season 16 preview, Infinity recipe and effect.

Two Ber isn't cheap.

Before you click Transmute, check whether the weapon fits your character, what power you'll give up and how often you'll fight close enough to get the benefit. That's where the decision sits.

Below you'll find Infinity's return status, current recipe, every supported base, rune-upgrade costs, farming options and build checks. Confirmed crafting details stay separate from Season 16 expectations.

Is Infinity returning in Season 16?

Its return is still unconfirmed in the official material checked for this guide. Blizzard’s 3.3.0 PTR ran from October 27 to November 3, 2026. The test is over. Those dates marked the testing window, not a Season 16 launch announcement. Official PTR schedule.

Blizzard says, “some features from the Season of Hell's Legacy will be carrying forward into Season 16.” The announcement also says those returning features were excluded from this PTR. Infinity isn't named. Blizzard’s carryover statement.

So we still don't know whether Infinity returns or, if it does, what its final recipe and power will look like. Missing the PTR doesn't prove it was removed.

Blizzard’s live season page still presents Hell’s Legacy. Its live patch list starts with 3.2.4, dated October 28, 2026. The crafting details below cover the documented Season 15 version. Official season page, live patch notes.

How do you craft the current Infinity Runeword?

Combine Ber + Mal + Ber + Ist with a compatible white-quality weapon in the Horadric Cube. Yes, Ber appears twice. You need both copies. Current Infinity recipe.

IngredientQuantity for one InfinityWhat to reserve
Ber2Both copies
Mal1Keep separate from upgrade ingredients
Ist1A distinct rune alongside Mal
Compatible Common weapon1The correct type for your character
Total rune copies4Three different rune names

Which weapon bases work?

The documented recipe accepts 10 weapon types: two-handed axe, two-handed mace, two-handed sword, two-handed scythe, polearm, glaive, quarterstaff, staff, bow and crossbow. If a database shows Infinity as a scythe, you're looking at one version of the item. Supported Infinity bases.

Pick something your character can equip. The item database lists staff for Sorcerer or Druid, bow and crossbow for Rogue, and glaive or quarterstaff for Spiritborn. Crafting Infinity doesn't bypass those class restrictions. Base and class compatibility.

Common quality matters. Magic, Rare and Legendary weapons won't work.

An Ancestral Common base produces an Ancestral Runeword. Check both quality and ancestry before spending your runes. Base requirements.

What are the crafting steps?

You unlock the Horadric Cube through the Lord of Hatred campaign. Afterward, you'll find it in Temis. Cube access.

Diablo 4 Horadric Cube recipe list in Temis, the screen where runeword crafts like Infinity are transmuted

  • Pick a supported Common weapon your character can equip.
  • Decide whether you want the Ancestral version before choosing the base.
  • Put the weapon, two Ber, one Mal and one Ist into the Cube.
  • Check every ingredient and make sure Transmute is available.
  • Craft Infinity. Read the finished tooltip before swapping out your weapon.

You're transmuting equipment here. Making Infinity does not involve inserting four runes into a four-socket weapon. Runeword crafting explanation.

Why is Transmute unavailable?

Count your runes first. Three names, four copies: one Ber leaves you short.

Next, read the full weapon type. A one-handed mace isn't an eligible two-handed mace just because both say “mace.” Then check the base's quality. It must be Common; Ancestral status alone won't satisfy that requirement. Infinity recipe details.

If everything matches, check whether the recipe is available in your realm and season. Leave your ingredients intact while you investigate. Converting more runes won't fix an incompatible base.

What does Infinity actually do?

The current tooltip combines three effects: a 50% on-kill Chain Lightning trigger, the passive from Druid’s Cyclone Armor, and a proximity effect that makes Close enemies Vulnerable and increases your damage against them. Infinity’s listed power.

Look at each part separately.

The listed affixes include Crushing Blow, Movement Speed, Maximum Life and Gold Drop Rate. Compare those against what you'd lose from your existing weapon, especially if you rely on its defensive stats. The big damage number doesn't settle the swap by itself. Infinity affixes.

Does it give you a Conviction aura?

Read the Diablo IV tooltip closely: Close enemies, Vulnerable, increased damage from you. It doesn't describe a resistance-reducing skill called Conviction. Build around the conditions it actually lists. Current tooltip wording.

That means spending time near your target. If most fights have you retreating across the screen, question how much you're getting from that proximity bonus.

The personal damage wording also gives you no basis to call the entire effect a party-wide multiplier.

Is the lightning useful against bosses?

You need a kill. Repeatedly hitting a lone boss with no adds won't trigger the lightning while that boss is still alive.

Dense packs offer more chances to proc it, so assess clearing and boss damage separately. The borrowed lightning skill accounts for only part of the weapon's power.

For exact damage multipliers, granted skill ranks and affix values, compare the items you can actually equip. Public references show different numbers. None of those database displays should be treated as a guaranteed Season 16 roll.

Can you craft Ber instead of waiting for a drop?

Yes. Under the documented Season 15 recipes, two Lo runes plus one Grand Topaz produce one Ber in the Horadric Cube. Several earlier high runes can also be upgraded along the way to Lo. Ber crafting recipe.

Diablo 4 Horadric Cube upgrading Lo runes with a topaz into a Ber rune

Cube ingredientsOutput
2 Mal + 1 Flawless Amethyst1 Ist
2 Ist + 1 Flawless Ruby1 Vex
2 Vex + 1 Flawless Emerald1 Ohm
2 Ohm + 1 Flawless Diamond1 Lo
2 Lo + 1 Grand Topaz1 Ber

These conversions are fixed. Each recipe requires the listed gem type and quality. Cliptis’s rune-upgrade reference.

What does that mean for Infinity’s total cost?

Already have Lo? Both Ber will cost 4 Lo and 2 Grand Topazes. Set aside Infinity's separate Mal, Ist and weapon base as well.

If you also need to craft Ist, reserve 3 Mal: two to convert and one for the weapon. Burn that last Mal on an upgrade and you can end up with both Ber but no way to finish Infinity.

Starting entirely from Mal takes 64 Mal for the two Ber, another two for Ist and one left unchanged. That's 67 Mal total, plus all the intermediate gems.

That's recipe arithmetic. It isn't a farming recommendation or a measured market price.

There's a gap in the ladder, too: the documented conversions include no Sol-to-Mal recipe. A stash full of lower runes won't automatically bridge it. Complete conversion table.

Where should you farm Infinity’s ingredients now?

Helltides’ current-season rune reference lists Undercity and Waking Nightmares as sources and points to Undercity Tributes with rune rewards. These are Season 15 options. Listing them here doesn't confirm they'll be a Season 16 farming route. Rune farming reference.

Check your stash first.

Four Lo cover both Ber through conversion. Spare Ohm or Vex can shorten the chain, too, so count what you've already got before spending another session waiting for the exact drop.

Then pick content you can finish consistently. Travel, deaths and resets all count when you're comparing runs. An encounter that looks great on someone else's build can eat your evening if you keep failing it.

Remember the white base. Getting the final rune feels good; realizing you kept the wrong weapon doesn't.

There's no verified Ber drop percentage here to support a guaranteed runs-per-Infinity estimate. Track progress against the fixed recipe and expect individual drops to vary.

Which builds should consider Infinity?

Prioritize a compatible build that fights close and can afford to replace its current weapon. That's advice based on the listed effect, not a Season 16 tier ranking.

Check what you lose in the weapon slot

Before crafting, write down what your current weapon does for the build. Does your main skill depend on its power? Would replacing it force you to find resource generation, defense or attack speed elsewhere?

Being able to equip Infinity doesn't mean your build gets better.

Test both weapons in familiar content while keeping the rest of your setup stable. Watch clear time, boss time and deaths. Track bosses with adds separately from those without; otherwise, the kill-triggered lightning can skew the comparison.

Watch the downtime, too. If trying to stay Close sends you into repeated retreats, count that lost time. Faster packs and a slower final boss leave you with a choice: which activity are you building for? Answer that before calling the swap an upgrade.

What could change the decision in Season 16?

Blizzard’s PTR preview introduces Horadric weapon and armor affixes that activate with at least a two-piece bonus from a specified Talisman set. Those options give you another reason to review your whole equipment setup when final Season 16 details arrive. Official Horadric Items explanation.

Our Diablo 4 Season 16 Horadric Items guide explains the system. Comparing weapon crafts? The Diablo 4 Grief Runeword guide covers its recipe and return status.

What should you check before upgrading Infinity further?

Plan a later Mythic upgrade around your whole character. Blizzard’s Season 15 Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic recipe keeps existing affixes and modifications, excludes Unmodifiable items, and gives the result a Crafted tag. You can equip only one item with that tag. Blizzard’s direct-upgrade rules.

Think about that limit before spending more materials. Another item may deserve the slot, and your candidate still needs to be eligible.

Keep your old weapon until you've compared the finished setups. You can get the recipe right and still craft the wrong replacement for your build.
