Quick answer (updated 2 November 2026, 15:30 UTC): Epic hasn't announced a Fortnite Chapter 8 release date. It has dated a Chapter 7 end event for Saturday 5 December 2026, and Fortnite Status says the next LEGO Pass arrives that day "with our next big update". So 5 December or shortly after is the best estimate, but that's an inference. Chapter 7 is not known to be the last chapter. Nothing from Epic says Fortnite ends after it.

Key takeaways
- Confirmed by Epic: Treasure Hunters started on 1 November with v43.00, and a Chapter 7 end event is set for 5 December.
- Not confirmed: the name "Chapter 8", its start date, map, theme or Battle Pass.
- Days left: 33 from today until the end event.
- The 28 November leak looks wrong. It falls a week before Epic's own Chapter 7 finale.
- The pattern fits: the last four chapters each started within a day of the old one ending.
When does Fortnite Chapter 8 come out?
No date is confirmed, but the evidence now points at 5 December 2026 or the days right after it. Epic's Treasure Hunters announcement gave the only hard date:
"keep Saturday, December 5, open. Time is on your side… for now. Don't miss an unforgettable Chapter 7 end event." — Epic Games, 30 October 2026
Epic didn't give a start hour, and it didn't say what follows. A second date came a day later. Fortnite Status said the new LEGO Pass would drop on 5 December "with our next big update". Epic didn't call that update Chapter 8, though a large update on the day a chapter ends is hard to read any other way.
Here's how each claim stands on 2 November:
| Claim | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter 7 end event, 5 December 2026 | Confirmed | Epic news post |
| "Next big update" and LEGO Pass, 5 December | Confirmed | Fortnite Status on X |
| Chapter 7 ends 5 December | Wiki date | Fortnite Wiki; Epic dated only the event |
| Chapter 8 starts 5 December or just after | Likely, unconfirmed | Our read of Epic's two dates |
| Chapter 8 starts 28 November | Unlikely | January HYPEX leak |
| Chapter 8 map, theme or Battle Pass | Unconfirmed | No Epic source |
The Fortnite Wiki has no Chapter 8 page as of today, which matches how little is public. We'll update this page as soon as Epic names a date.
Is Chapter 7 the last chapter of Fortnite?
No evidence says it is. Epic has never said Fortnite ends after Chapter 7, and the things it has said point the other way. "Chapter 7 end event" means the end of a chapter, not the game.
The worry is understandable, because the phrase "Chapter 7 end" is everywhere at the moment. The rumour took off in mid-October after an Epic employee, Tofu Chris, posted a line that read like an encyclopedia entry. Beebom quotes it as "Fortnite is a 2017 online video game and game platform developed and released by Epic Games." SportsTiger dates the post to 11 October and notes it prompted talk of a sequel ahead of Fortnite's 10th anniversary in 2027. The post confirmed nothing, and Epic hasn't announced a "Fortnite 2".
Three things Epic has actually said suggest long-term plans:
- Future passes: Fortnite Status said on 31 October that passes will return to regular size and come out more often. That's a plan for later seasons.
- Unreal Engine 6: Epic said in June that UE6 builds on "a next-generation game development pipeline we've been building live in Fortnite", with developers able to deploy games to "traditional platforms, Fortnite, or their own" ecosystems.
- A 2027 timeline: IGN reports UE6 early access is set for the end of 2027, and Epic describes Fortnite as part of that pipeline.
There's one thing we can't confirm. Beebom says Fortnite will run on UE6 in 2027, but we haven't found an Epic post that states it. Treat that as reporting, not an announcement.
When does Chapter 7 end?
Chapter 7 is expected to end on 5 December 2026, the date on the Fortnite Wiki and the day of Epic's end event. Treasure Hunters is its last stretch. The wiki lists it as the fifth and final season of Chapter 7, and at about 34 days it's a mini-season. Our next season guide covers why, and our season end countdown tracks the date.
Chapter 7 will end up the longest of the last five chapters if that date holds. Each of the previous four ran 363 days by date subtraction, and this one would run 371.
| Chapter | Start | End | Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chapter 3 | 5 Dec 2021 | 3 Dec 2022 | 363 |
| Chapter 4 | 4 Dec 2022 | 2 Dec 2023 | 363 |
| Chapter 5 | 3 Dec 2023 | 30 Nov 2024 | 363 |
| Chapter 6 | 1 Dec 2024 | 29 Nov 2025 | 363 |
| Chapter 7 | 29 Nov 2025 | 5 Dec 2026 (wiki) | 371 |
Dates from the Fortnite Wiki. The wiki's own day counts differ by a day or two, so we subtracted the dates.
Look at the gaps between rows. Every new chapter started on the day the last one ended or the day after. That's why a 5 or 6 December start is the sensible guess, and it's also why a Chapter 8 launch before the end event would break the pattern.
Why does the 28 November date look wrong?
The 28 November date comes from a January 2026 HYPEX post, and Epic's 5 December event now sits a week after it. Esports Insider reported at the time that HYPEX built it from Epic's Fortnite Creator Roadmap plus pattern recognition, and that the roadmap's dates carry a subject-to-change disclaimer.
That schedule was useful, and it shows how leaks like this fail. It got routine updates right, including 1 October and 15 October, which match the real v42.30 and v42.40 dates. Season launches are where it missed:
| Update | Leaked date | Real date |
|---|---|---|
| v40.00, Chapter 7 Season 2 | 5 March | 19 March |
| v41.00, Chapter 7 Season 3 (marked with a "?") | 30 April | 6 June |
| Chapter 8 | 28 November | Not announced |
Two season launches slipped, by two and five weeks. Sites that still print "28 November to 5 December" are repeating October's guess. Since 30 October, Epic's own event has narrowed it.
What's known about Chapter 8 so far?
Very little that's solid. No Chapter 8 theme, map, or Battle Pass has been confirmed by Epic. Reports so far are small and technical:
- Lobby redesign: Beebom reports leaks of an overhauled lobby UI for Chapter 8. Leak only.
- XP Boosters: Beebom reported on 9 October, citing HYPEX, that Epic is testing XP boosters of up to 400%. There's no confirmation these will ship, or that they're tied to Chapter 8.
- A new island: this is a pattern, not a leak. New chapters have usually meant a new map, but no Epic post has confirmed one for Chapter 8.
Be wary of anything more specific. A "leaked Chapter 8 map" or a named Battle Pass lineup without a source is worth ignoring until Epic posts it.

Will there be two end events in December?
Possibly, but Epic has only dated one. The Fortnite Wiki and season trackers list OG Chapter 1: Season X as ending on 4 December, one day before Epic's Chapter 7 event. That's a separate season line from Battle Royale, and we haven't seen an Epic post with its end date.
Players have noticed. In the r/FortniteBR thread on the 5 December date, one commenter expects two back-to-back events, while another jokes the realistic outcome is one event and a delay. Both are guesses. Claims about an "OG Chapter 2" are leaker-sourced as well, so don't plan around them.
Our live event time page will carry the start time in every region once Epic posts it.
What carries over into Chapter 8?
Your account stays intact, so a chapter change won't cost you what you own. Your locker, V-Bucks and account level survive it, as they have at every chapter change. Season progress is what resets.
- Keeps: every outfit, emote and pickaxe you own, plus your V-Bucks balance and account level.
- Unclaimed pass rewards: these aren't lost. Epic's support article says: "If you forget to claim rewards from the Passes in Fortnite before the season ends, you will receive them automatically the next time you log in."
- Unearned pass levels: these are gone. You can't buy or progress a past pass after its season ends, so finish the Treasure Hunters Battle Pass by the end event.
- Seasonal systems: these can reset fast. Sprite Dust went to zero at v43.00, according to the wiki, so don't hoard it for Chapter 8. Our Sprites checklist has the current state.
An earlier version of this page said unclaimed rewards were lost. Epic's support article says otherwise, so we've corrected it.
What should you do before 5 December?
Treat the next 33 days as a short season with a hard stop. Here's the order we'd follow:
- Start the Battle Pass now. You get less than half of Override's 73 days.
- Check the Pirate Shop deadline. In-game text sets the 2026 activation deadline at 15 December, later than the end event, so a token found late in the season can still be activated.
- Watch the Shop dates. Zoro, Sanji and the Chopper Sidekick land on 7 November, and Buggy follows on 13 November.
- Keep 5 December free. Check our server status page too, since this year's season changes took roughly 3 to 7 hours of downtime.
- Ignore "Chapter 8 rewards" sites. Epic says real offers appear on its own store, sites and social channels. A page asking for your Epic login to claim new-chapter V-Bucks is a scam.
FAQ
