Quick answer (TLDR)
GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar confirmed it on November 3 in a support article titled "Grand Theft Auto VI regional pre-load and release times". In the US that means 12am ET, which is 9pm PT on Wednesday, November 18. In the UK it's 12am GMT on November 19. New Zealand plays first, about 18 hours before the US East Coast.
Preload opens Tuesday, November 10: midnight local on PS5, 12am GMT on Xbox (7pm ET / 4pm PT on Monday, November 9). You need up to 212 GB free. As of November 5, 2026, launch is 14 days away and preload is 5 days away. No PC version has been announced. Updated November 5, 2026.
The release-time question had no official answer until this week. When we first wrote this guide in August, Rockstar had published a date but not an hour, and the best anyone could do was read store listings. That changed on November 3. Rockstar posted the preload date and the launch timing together, and the answer is the simplest one: midnight, in your own region, on both consoles.
The r/GTA6 thread asking "What are your plans on release night?" is full of people booking the evening off. One commenter offered a practical tip: get off social media once New Zealand unlocks, because players there get the game about 18 hours ahead of the US. Below is the exact time for every major region, what happens on November 10, and a launch-night checklist.
What time does GTA 6 come out?
Midnight local time on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This is Rockstar's own wording from its regional pre-load and release times article (last updated November 3, 2026):
"Grand Theft Auto VI will release midnight local time on November 19, 2026, in all regions for both PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S." (Rockstar Games Customer Support)
Three things follow from that sentence:
- It's a rolling midnight launch, not one global moment. Each region unlocks when its own clock hits 12:00am on November 19.
- PS5 and Xbox unlock at the same time. Unlike preload, launch has no Xbox-versus-PlayStation difference.
- Standard and Ultimate unlock together. The Ultimate Edition ($99.99) has no early access. Rockstar Support lists both editions for November 19. More on that in our GTA 6 early access explainer.
The date itself hasn't moved since Rockstar's Newswire post set "Thursday, November 19, 2026". The official GTA VI page still shows November 19 under a "Pre-Load Begins November 10" banner.
What time does GTA 6 unlock in my time zone?
Here is the November 19 midnight unlock for the regions people search for most. US, Mexico, Brazil and UK times match IGN's table built from Rockstar's announcement. The other rows convert Rockstar's "midnight local" rule into each country's time zone. Daylight saving is already accounted for: Australia and New Zealand are on summer time in November, and Europe and the US are not.
| Region | Unlock (local time) | Same moment in ET | Same moment in UTC |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Zealand (Auckland, NZDT) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 6am Wed Nov 18 | 11:00 Wed Nov 18 |
| Australia (Sydney/Melbourne, AEDT) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 8am Wed Nov 18 | 13:00 Wed Nov 18 |
| Japan / South Korea | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 10am Wed Nov 18 | 15:00 Wed Nov 18 |
| Hong Kong / Singapore / Taiwan | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 11am Wed Nov 18 | 16:00 Wed Nov 18 |
| India (IST) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 1:30pm Wed Nov 18 | 18:30 Wed Nov 18 |
| UAE (Dubai) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 3pm Wed Nov 18 | 20:00 Wed Nov 18 |
| Central Europe (Berlin/Paris, CET) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 6pm Wed Nov 18 | 23:00 Wed Nov 18 |
| UK / Ireland (GMT) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 7pm Wed Nov 18 | 00:00 Thu Nov 19 |
| Brazil (BRT) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 10pm Wed Nov 18 | 03:00 Thu Nov 19 |
| US East (New York) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 05:00 Thu Nov 19 |
| US Central (Chicago) | 11pm Wed Nov 18 | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 05:00 Thu Nov 19 |
| US Mountain (Denver) | 10pm Wed Nov 18 | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 05:00 Thu Nov 19 |
| US Pacific (Los Angeles) | 9pm Wed Nov 18 | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 05:00 Thu Nov 19 |
| Mexico City (CST) | 12am Thu Nov 19 | 1am Thu Nov 19 | 06:00 Thu Nov 19 |
Why do US West Coast players get it at 9pm? The US stores treat the whole country as one release region and use Eastern time for it, so "midnight local" for a US account is midnight in New York. That's why IGN's region list puts Los Angeles at 9pm PST on November 18, and why Xbox players in Mountain time saw "Nov 18, 10 PM" on their pre-order pages back in the summer. For a West Coast player it's a Wednesday-evening launch, not a midnight one.
One caveat for every row outside the US, UK, Mexico and Brazil: these are conversions of Rockstar's rule, not a time Rockstar printed for that city. Your store page shows the final word. In launch week, open GTA 6 in the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on your own account and check the release time listed there.
Who gets to play GTA 6 first?
New Zealand. Midnight hits Auckland at 11:00 UTC on Wednesday, November 18, which is 6am in New York and 3am in Los Angeles. Australia follows two hours later, then East Asia.
That gap is the spoiler window. By the time the US East Coast unlocks at midnight, players in New Zealand will have had 18 hours with the game, and players in the UK 5 hours. Expect story clips, the opening mission and ending discussion on social feeds well before a US player boots up. If you care about the story of Jason and Lucia, mute "GTA 6" and "GTA VI" on X, TikTok and YouTube from Wednesday morning (US time) until you've played.
Review timing makes it messier. Insiders reported a November 18 review embargo, which Rockstar and Take-Two haven't confirmed; see our GTA 6 reviews explainer. If that holds, reviews and the first unlocks will hit the same day.
Does GTA 6 come out at midnight?
Yes, in every region and on both consoles. That was the most common unanswered question on this page through October, and it's now settled by Rockstar's November 3 article.
Two points still trip people up:
- "Midnight" means the start of November 19, not the end. The game unlocks as Wednesday night turns into Thursday. If you wait until "Thursday night" you'll be almost 24 hours late.
- US players outside Eastern time unlock on Wednesday evening. 11pm in Chicago, 10pm in Denver, 9pm in Los Angeles, all on November 18.
When does GTA 6 preload start?
Tuesday, November 10, 2026, nine days before launch. Preload timing differs by console, unlike the launch itself. Rockstar's Pre-Load FAQ says:
"On XBOX Series X|S, digital pre-load begins globally at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, 2026." (Rockstar Games Customer Support)
On PS5, digital preload begins at midnight local time on November 10.
| PS5 | Xbox Series X/S | |
|---|---|---|
| Preload opens | 12am local, Tue Nov 10 | 12am GMT Tue Nov 10 (7pm ET / 4pm PT Mon Nov 9) |
| Game unlocks | 12am local, Thu Nov 19 | 12am local, Thu Nov 19 |
| Space needed | Up to 212 GB | Up to 212 GB |
This replaces the "November 12" preload date that was everywhere until early November, including in the first version of this guide. November 12 is now only the date code-in-box physical copies "should" reach retailers. The boxed edition contains a download code, not a disc, so boxed buyers start their 212 GB download two days after digital buyers. Region times and the auto-download settings are in our GTA 6 preload guide. Storage planning per console is in GTA 6 file size.
One thing preload does not do is let you play early. The files download locked and open at the midnight unlock.
How do I make sure I can play the second it unlocks?
Most people who miss midnight on a big launch are stuck on a download bar or a pending update. A checklist for the next 14 days:
- Free up 250 GB this weekend. Rockstar says "up to 212 GB depending on your device". Leave headroom for a launch patch on top of that.
- Turn on automatic downloads now. On PS5, Rockstar says auto-downloads must be on and the console powered on or in Rest Mode. On Xbox, automatic updates must be on and the console on or in Sleep mode.
- Check on November 10 that the preload actually started. Don't find out on the 18th.
- Update your console firmware before launch night so a system update doesn't sit between you and the start screen.
- Launch week: confirm the time on your own store page. It's the one source that accounts for your account region.
- At unlock, open the game straight from your library. If it still shows as locked a few minutes after your unlock time, close the store and restart the console before assuming something is wrong.
- Physical buyers: redeem the code the day you get it. Copies "should" be in stores from November 12, which still leaves a week to download.
Is GTA 6 out on PC on November 19?
No. November 19 is a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch only. Rockstar has announced no PC version and no PC date. There's no PS4, Xbox One or Switch 2 version either. Past Rockstar games came to PC later, but nothing about GTA 6 on PC is confirmed. Details in our GTA 6 PC release status page.
Does my GTA Online progress carry into GTA 6?
No. GTA 6 launches as a single-player game. The PlayStation and Xbox store listings describe it as "a single-player experience", and no GTA 6 online mode has a date. Your GTA Online cash, cars and properties stay in GTA Online, which Take-Two said at its September shareholder meeting it will keep supporting after GTA 6 launches. The full breakdown is in does GTA Online carry over to GTA 6.
So the next 14 days are still good GTA Online time: finish the businesses you never set up and get the cars you always wanted. Our fastest GTA Online money guide ranks the current best methods.
Count down to GTA 6 loaded, not broke. While you wait for November 19, get your GTA Online account set up so you're not grinding from zero:
- GTA 5 Money: fast and safe: top up your cash, secure delivery
- GTA 5 Account Boost: levels, RP and unlocks
- GTA 5 Modded Cars: rare rides, delivered
- All GTA services
These are GTA Online / GTA 5 services. There is no GTA 6 product, because GTA 6 has no online mode at launch.
What's confirmed and what isn't about GTA 6 launch timing?
Confirmed by Rockstar:
- Release: Thursday, November 19, 2026, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
- Unlock: midnight local time in all regions, both consoles (Rockstar Support, November 3)
