TL;DR: what is the latest MW4 update?

The latest MW4 update is November 2, 2026. It reverts the 23% dive speed cut from October 28, temporarily disables the JOKR Launcher's Infrared mode to stop an exploit, adjusts Shipment spawns, switches Free For All to Final Killcam, fixes the Loaded Cash Mastery challenge in Inflation, and in DMZ cuts UAV tower spawns by 40% while doubling the Sedative Inhaler to 120 seconds. Infinity Ward says the Season 1 patch notes arrive "later this week," ahead of launch at 9 PM PT on Thursday, November 5 (midnight ET November 6). That makes seven dated updates in the first eleven days, all on one official page.

Every MW4 update so far:

DateHeadline changeBiggest impact on you
Nov 2Dive speed restored, JOKR Infrared off, DMZ UAV towers cutMovement back to normal, quieter DMZ
Oct 30DMZ Cash boost, Infected playlistMore DMZ money per deployment
Oct 29Multiplayer XP increase, Possession playlistFaster leveling in several modes
Oct 28First weapon tuning (15 weapons), Quick Fix fixedSMGs up, LMGs down, dive speed −23% (reverted Nov 2)
Oct 25S&D and Collateral kill XP 100 → 300Tripled kill XP in two modes
Oct 24Hijack spawns, exfil helicopter fixFewer lost DMZ runs
Oct 23Launch-day camo and stability fixesCamo requirements corrected

What changed in the November 2 MW4 update?

Infinity Ward opened the week with "another round of fixes and improvements across Multiplayer and DMZ." Three changes matter most: movement, the JOKR, and DMZ UAV towers.

"Reverted a temporary exploit mitigation that restores the 23% of dive's intended velocity." (Infinity Ward, MW4 patch notes, November 2, 2026)

Movement. On October 28 Infinity Ward cut dive velocity by 23% as a short-term fix for a sprint-jump-dive speed exploit. That cut is now gone, so dives travel their full intended distance again. The same update also stops players going from prone to standing without the proper animation. Infinity Ward says these server-side fixes "introduce minor visual animation bugs" that a future update will clean up, so odd-looking dives this week are expected.

JOKR Launcher. Infrared mode is disabled to stop an exploit. Infinity Ward calls it "a short-term mitigation that will be reverted when we have a full fix." If you're working through launcher camos, plan your JOKR runs without Infrared for now.

DMZ changes:

DMZ changeBeforeAfter
UAV tower spawnsOne guaranteed per POIRandomized, 40% fewer, never two in one area (Deadtown keeps its tower for Orders)
Sedative Inhaler duration60 seconds120 seconds
Truce Flag cooldown180 seconds60 seconds

One catch: the Sedative Inhaler still doesn't hide you from UAV towers that enemy Operators activate with the UAV Upgrade trait. Infinity Ward plans to fix that in a Season 1 update. The same section fixes Bounty progress resetting between deployments, retired Active Duty Operators not saving, SAM Sites that couldn't be captured after another squad abandoned them, and wrong UAV tower status after a recapture.

Everything else in the November 2 notes:

  • Shipment: "some spawn logic" adjusted, which Infinity Ward calls "a first pass" at improving the map.
  • Free For All: now uses Final Killcam instead of Best Play. Voice chat outside parties is still "in a future update."
  • Challenges: the Loaded challenge for Cash Mastery now tracks in Inflation, and destroying your own team's vehicles in Ground War: Combat Outpost no longer counts toward Challenges.
  • HUD: clearer After Death Damage widget, with left and right body parts shown separately, and dimmer Death Skull icons.
  • Maps: out-of-bounds exploits closed on Sentry and Mumbai, plus a tree visual fix on Mumbai.
  • Campaign: the Hits Different Finishing Move now unlocks reliably once you finish its requirements.
  • Recently updated: the KG-9 Drill Charge Apex Attachment is fixed, and its Trello warning moved to Resolved on November 2.

Players welcomed the Shipment change. On the r/modernwarfare4 patch thread, one commenter answered the spawn line with a simple "Praise the lord," while another pointed out that loading in late and picking a class after the match starts still happens on Shipment. The notes don't mention that bug.

Why does MW4 still ask me to restart after an update?

A r/modernwarfare4 post with more than 350 upvotes called the "no restart" promise a lie after a "Restart required by update" screen appeared. The promise was narrower than the trailer made it sound. Activision's PC features blog says "Updates no longer require restarts during game boots," but adds that "you can still expect a restart when an update goes live when you're actively in-game." So the promise only covers launching the game after an update. A restart while you're playing, when a live patch drops, is expected, though some replies say they still got the prompt at boot. A separate Trello card about "Update Requires Restart" prompts caused by connection timeouts now sits in the Resolved list. If you keep getting the prompt at boot, check our stuck connecting fix.

What changed in the October 30 MW4 update?

Infinity Ward called this "a smaller update" heading into the weekend, but the DMZ economy change is the part that matters.

"Adjusted Cash rewards across DMZ to improve the in-game economy." (Infinity Ward, MW4 patch notes, October 30, 2026)

DMZ activityBeforeAfter
Dynamic Ops5,000–10,000 Cash10,000–20,000 Cash
Side Ops500 Cash2,000 Cash
Mission Steps300 Cash per step500 Cash per step

Side Ops are the standout, at four times the old payout. If you've been skipping them, they're worth another look before you spend time in the X01 Black Site on November 6.

Everything else in the October 30 notes:

  • Playlist: Infected is live as a Halloween party mode.
  • Global: fixes for server crashes during gameplay, and Calling Card Challenges showing the reward name instead of the challenge name.
  • PC: Platinum Camo progress for Marksman Rifles now displays correctly.
  • Multiplayer: Private Match black screen fixed, premature inactivity kicks in Search and Destroy fixed, exploits closed on Coal.
  • DMZ: fixes for the Broken Resupply and Hunt Operator Dynamic Ops, the Boss Board Intel purchase that was blocking the Information Power Order, the helmet hit icon, FOB shadows, and a FOB crash from spamming knife attacks.

What changed in the October 29 MW4 update?

This update added the Possession playlist and raised XP again.

"We've increased XP earn rates across several Multiplayer modes to improve consistency in progression." (Infinity Ward, October 29 patch notes)

Infinity Ward didn't publish the new numbers or list the modes, so treat any exact figure you see elsewhere as community testing, not official data. The other changes that matter:

  • DMZ camos: fixed squadmate actions not counting toward DMZ Mastery Camo Challenge progress.
  • DMZ economy: a first small Cash increase for Dynamic Ops, Side Ops and Story Mission replays.
  • DMZ deaths: enemy helicopters can no longer crash into the Exfil helicopter and wipe your squad during extraction.
  • Menus: Calling Cards now keep showing their unlock requirements after completion.
  • Multiplayer: Recon Drone out-of-bounds fix on Silkworm, exploits closed on Mumbai, redundant callouts removed on Shipment.
  • Open item: Infinity Ward says it's still working on granting the DMZ Level 37 3-Plate Armor Vest to players who passed that level before the fix.

What changed in the October 28 weapon tuning update?

This is the only MW4 patch so far that really moved gun balance. It touched 15 weapons, and our full breakdown is in the October 28 update guide. Here's the short version:

The same update stopped Quick Fix healing through damage, cut dive velocity by 23% as a short-term exploit fix (reverted on November 2), and made Point Blank and Longshot challenges easier to track by widening both range cutoffs. Every weapon change sits in the Multiplayer section, and Infinity Ward has said it runs "bespoke weapon tuning in both Multiplayer and DMZ."

What changed in the October 23, 24 and 25 patches?

These were cleanup patches, with a few changes worth knowing:

  • October 25: kill XP went from 100 to 300 in Search and Destroy and Collateral. The S&D "bomb stretching" fix was rolled back because some players couldn't pick up the bomb. The Prestige reset now clears Loadouts properly.
  • October 24: better Hijack spawns, a stop to Party Leaders pulling teammates out of DMZ and marking their Operators MIA, and a fix for the Exfil helicopter disappearing with players inside.
  • October 23: fixed Military Camos and Apex Attachments relocking after a weapon Prestige, and fixed "several camo unlock requirements" that were simply wrong. Infinity Ward also confirmed that the Apex Attachments seen in the Beta "will return soon."

Which MW4 patches changed the camo and leveling grind?

If you're mid-grind, this is the list to read. These changes affect how fast you progress or whether your progress counts.

UpdateChangeWhat to do
Oct 23Inaccurate camo requirements correctedRe-read your camo challenges, they may differ from old guides
Oct 25S&D and Collateral kills 300 XPGood option for a slower weapon XP session
Oct 28Point Blank and Longshot ranges widenedRetry these if they stalled you
Oct 28Melee, Backstab and Takedown tracking fixedCheck any stuck challenge that wasn't tracking
Oct 29Multiplayer XP raised in several modesSpend double XP tokens with this in mind
Oct 29Squadmate actions count for DMZ MasterySquad up for DMZ camos
Oct 30PC Platinum Marksman Rifle display fixedTrust the counter again
Nov 2Loaded Cash Mastery challenge tracks in InflationReplay Inflation if it stalled
Nov 2JOKR Infrared mode disabledLauncher camos without Infrared for now
Nov 2Shipment spawns adjustedBack to Shipment for weapon XP

The Patriot XMR Platinum issue, where the challenge wouldn't unlock after the Gold requirements, also sat in Trello's Resolved list when we checked on November 3.

Note what isn't here: none of the seven post-launch entries mention SBMM or matchmaking. A r/modernwarfare4 thread this weekend asked whether multiplayer had been quietly fixed, because matches felt better after a rough first week. Replies split between SBMM settling on each player and people simply adjusting to the slower movement, and the patch notes back neither. Our SBMM explainer covers what Infinity Ward has actually said.

What's still broken in MW4 right now?

These were open on the official Trello board on November 3:

  • Firing Range dummies: bullet impact issues in the front end, with a fix and extra Firing Range improvements "scheduled for November 10."
  • Toggle ADS: Sprint or Melee doesn't pull you out of ADS. The fix is "scheduled to arrive with Season 1."
  • Classic Prestige via DMZ menus: you can't make new MP classes until you delete old ones with relocked items. A fix is in test. The workaround is in our loadouts not saving guide.
  • Calling Cards: some challenges aren't tracking as intended.
  • Best Play: selection logic is off in Multiplayer modes.
  • Free For All: open voice chat outside parties is still under review. The Final Killcam card was still open on Trello on November 3, even though the November 2 notes say FFA now uses it.
  • PC: NVIDIA driver 621.01 may cause visual artifacts, and DLSS scaling is unavailable while the VRRT Denoiser is on. If your game looks wrong, start with our graphics fix guide.
  • DMZ: some players can't Prestige their Active Duty Operators. Infinity Ward's workaround is using rare (blue) weapons with only 3 attachment slots.
  • Xbox: some players are blocked by the Microsoft account device limit.

The KG-9 Drill Charge Apex Attachment on the KG-7 Vulcan is fixed as of November 2, and its Trello warning is now Resolved. That's separate from the regular Drill Charges that players keep calling overpowered, especially in Hardcore. No patch so far has changed those in Multiplayer. The only Drill Charge note is the October 25 DMZ cut to their damage against the Colossus.

When are the next MW4 patch notes?

The next major patch is Season 1, live at midnight ET on November 6 (9 PM PT on November 5, 5 AM UTC on November 6) on all platforms, per Activision. In the November 2 notes Infinity Ward said the Season 1 patch notes will be "available later this week ahead of launch on Thursday, November 5th at 9pm PT." There's no exact time or download size yet.

Want to finish your grind before Season 1 lands?

Three days is a short window, and Season 1 adds more weapons to level, with the Cronen Osprey alone at 70 levels. If you'd rather not spend it fighting for every kill, bot lobbies are the simplest way to get easier matches while the XP changes above are live.
