Palworld's level cap is 80, and unlike a linear shooter, you climb it by moving across the map — each region is tuned to a level band, and going to the right zone at the right level is the difference between smooth progression and getting one-shot. This guide maps every leveling zone in Palworld 1.0, in order, so you always know where to grind next.
Quick answer: The fastest legit route to level 80 in Palworld 1.0 is to follow the map's difficulty curve: chain-catch starter Pals on the Palpagos Islands (Lv. 1–15), clear dungeons and Syndicate bases (15–30), fight tower bosses and Alpha Pals in level order (30–45), explore Sakurajima and Feybreak (45–65), then finish in the two new 1.0 endgame regions, Sunreach and The World Tree (65–80). Don't fight in a zone more than ~5 levels above you — over-levelling an area is cheap XP; under-levelling it just gets your Pals killed.
If you want to skip the 15-level endgame grind entirely and jump straight to cap, our Palworld leveling service does the heavy lifting. If you'd rather do it yourself, read on.

What is the level cap in Palworld 1.0?
The player level cap is 80. This is the single most common thing older guides get wrong: the 1.0 release on July 10, 2026 raised it, and the official 1.0 patch notes state it plainly —
"The player level cap has been raised from 65 to 80."
So if a guide tells you the cap is 65 (or 50/55/60), it was written for the early-access game and its zone advice is out of date. The 1.0 update also pushed the whole world to 287 Pals across 9 tower bosses, and added two brand-new regions above and around the original map — which is exactly why the top of the level curve now looks so different.
Your Pals scale with you: captured Pals arrive near their wild level, and 1.0 added accelerated catch-up XP so an under-levelled party Pal ramps quickly once it's in your active five. That means the zone you're standing in matters more than any single Pal — pick the region that matches your player level and the XP flows.
How Palworld's level zones work
Palworld doesn't gate regions with hard walls; it gates them with enemy level. A Syndicate grunt in the starting fields is Lv. 4; a wild Pal on the World Tree is Lv. 80. As one r/Palworld player put it, the practical loop is simple: "I typically over-level areas and nope out of areas I can't handle." That's the whole game — hunt where you out-level the mobs by a little, retreat when you don't.
Three rules make every bracket below work:
- Capture bonus completes at 5 catches per species (it was 12 in early access). Sweeping a dense, low-level zone for new species is the cheapest XP in the game because XP is scaled to your level, not the Pal's.
- Dungeons and enemy camps pay three times in 1.0 — capture bonuses inside, boss XP, plus a standalone completion reward.
- Passive base crafting ticks XP to your whole party, even while you're offline. Park a Pal on an arrow-crafting line before you log out.
One honest caveat: the world-settings EXP Rate slider goes up to 20× and can be changed at any time mid-playthrough. If you're playing solo and just want to be at cap, turning it up is the real "fastest" method. Everything below is the route for people playing at 1× who want the zones done properly. For the deeper XP mechanics — effigies, missions, condensing — see our fast leveling guide.
Palworld level zones at a glance
| Level band | Primary region(s) | What to do there |
|---|---|---|
| 1–15 | Palpagos Islands (starting grasslands) | Chain-catch starter species, first base, Grizzbolt tower |
| 15–30 | Palpagos (Bamboo Groves, deserts) | Dungeons, Syndicate camps, Lily & Lyleen / Axel & Orserk towers |
| 30–45 | Palpagos (Mount Obsidian, Astral Mountains) | Alpha Pals, Marcus & Faleris tower, ore bases |
| 45–65 | Sakurajima → Feybreak | Higher-tier towers (Victor, Saya, Bjorn), late-game Pals |
| 65–80 | Sunreach → The World Tree | Endgame Pals, Auri & Shaolong / Zenara & Astralym, Awakening |
(Levels for individual tower bosses vary between published guides; treat the bands as a route, not a hard schedule, and check your in-game map before over-committing.)
Level 1–15: the Palpagos starting grasslands
You begin on the Palpagos Islands, and the opening plateau around the first Palbox is the best low-level XP zone in the game precisely because it's boring — dense, weak spawns you can catch on repeat. Don't kill them; catch five of each species to bank the capture bonus, then move to the next cluster.
Your goals in this band:
- Build a first base and put a Pal on a crafting line for passive party XP.
- Grab the low-level effigies as you pass them — you'll want them for the EXP effigy stack later.
- Clear the first tower, Zoe & Grizzbolt (~Lv. 10), when your party is comfortably in the low teens. First tower clears pay XP and Ancient Technology Points.
By 15 you should have a stable of 8–12 caught species and a base humming in the background.
Level 15–30: dungeons and Syndicate camps
This is where zones start to branch. Stay on Palpagos but push into the Bamboo Groves and the desert fringes, where dungeons and PIDF/Syndicate camps appear. In 1.0 each dungeon clear is a self-contained XP package, so a single run stacks capture bonuses, a boss kill, and a completion reward.
A community tip that holds up: over-level slightly and cycle dungeons while your base Pals finish slow jobs. You're never idle — combat XP in the field, passive XP at home. Breeding also opens up here; players routinely start chaining toward stronger species (the r/Palworld crowd points newcomers straight at breeding calculators) so their party keeps pace with the zones ahead.
Towers in this band include Lily & Lyleen and Axel & Orserk — bring the right elemental counter, because every tower fight now runs on a 5-minute timer (down from 10), so a mis-matched team simply times out.

Level 30–45: Alphas, ore, and the mid towers
Now the map opens vertically. Head for Mount Obsidian and the Astral Mountains, where Alpha Pals — oversized, fixed-location field bosses — become the best rare-drop and XP targets. Capture them rather than kill them: a captured Alpha feeds condensing and pays more XP.
This is also prime ore-base territory. Set up a mining base with a high-Mining worker and let it run while you clear the Marcus & Faleris tower and mop up Alphas. If you're building your combat roster for the harder zones ahead, our best combat Pals tier list covers who actually carries at this stage.
Level 45–65: Sakurajima and Feybreak
The two dedicated late-game regions are Sakurajima (the volcanic, cherry-blossom island) and Feybreak. These zones expect a properly built party — condensed, with decent passives — not just high-level Pals. Work the towers in order: Victor & Shadowbeak, Saya & Selyne (Sakurajima), and Bjorn & Bastigor (Feybreak) around Lv. 60.
By the end of Feybreak you're bumping into the old level-65 ceiling — which, pre-1.0, was the end of the game. Now it's the doorway to the real endgame. Before you can walk through it, you have to clear the Panthalus questline that gates the World Tree — and the number-one player mistake is killing Panthalus instead of capturing it, because you need it in your active party to drop the barrier. We break down the whole chain in the Panthalus guide.
Level 65–80: Sunreach and The World Tree
The last 15 levels live in the two regions 1.0 added, and they're the reason the cap moved at all.
Sunreach is a set of sky-islands floating above Palpagos. The 1.0 patch notes describe it as land "kept aloft by the power of Paldium" — it has its own settlements, ~20 new Pals, ore only minable with specialised gear, the Ophydia field boss (Lv. 69), and the Auri & Shaolong tower (Lv. 68). It's your Lv. 65–72 zone and a full guide of its own: see the Sunreach walkthrough.
The World Tree is the Lv. 75+ endgame and story climax — a towering region with radiation zones that require a Gas Mask, Teafant Spring statues that heal your party between fights, and the only source of Radiant Gems. Killing wild Lv. 80 Pals here is the fastest repeatable raw-XP engine at cap, and Radiant Gems feed Awakening, the new permanent Pal power-up (Awakening and Radiant Gems guide). The region ends at the final tower boss, Zenara & Astralym (Lv. 80), inside the Sealed Sanctum — a typeless, pure gear-and-dodge check with no elemental weakness. Full map and progression in the World Tree guide.
Hit 80 and you're capped — but the World Tree grind keeps going for Awakening materials, Giant Pal Souls, and Hard-Mode boss loot.

Tips to make every zone pay more
- Stack the Relaxaurus Effigies. Four of them turned in at a Statue of Power grant +50% EXP gain, permanently — grab them as you cross each region.
- Never skip the quest log. Missions were reworked in 1.0 with materially better XP; check the log at every settlement you pass.
- Match the element, not just the level. A Lv. 60 party with the wrong type still times out on a tower. Bring counters.
- Keep a passive base running. Party-wide craft XP ticks while you explore or sleep — it's free progression toward the next zone.
FAQ
What is the max level in Palworld 1.0? The player level cap is 80, raised from 65 in the July 10, 2026 full release. Any guide citing a cap of 65 or lower is from early access.
What order should I do the regions in? Palpagos Islands (Lv. 1–45) → Sakurajima and Feybreak (45–65) → Sunreach (65–72) → The World Tree (75–80). The map's enemy levels follow that curve, so it doubles as the leveling route.
Am I over-levelled or under-levelled for a zone? If wild Pals and camp enemies are more than ~5 levels above you, you're under-levelled — expect your Pals to die fast. If you out-level them by a wide margin, the XP dries up. The sweet spot is grinding a zone where you're a few levels ahead, then moving on the moment it stops paying.
Is exploring for chests worth it for XP? Chests themselves give loot, not meaningful XP — the XP in any zone comes from catching new species, clearing dungeons, and boss fights. Explore for gear and effigies, but level by catching and clearing.
What's the fastest zone to grind at level 80? Killing wild Lv. 80 Pals in the World Tree is the best repeatable raw-XP loop at cap, and it doubles as your Radiant Gem and Awakening material farm.
Do I need to beat every tower before the World Tree? Yes — you must clear the tower bosses across Palpagos, Feybreak and Sunreach, then finish the Panthalus questline (capture Panthalus, don't kill it) to drop the World Tree barrier.
