Is WARDOGS on PS5, Xbox or Game Pass? Console & Platform Guide (2028)

WARDOGS large-scale urban firefight with soldiers, armored trucks and an explosion — the 100-player Control Zone the console question is about

Quick answer: No — WARDOGS is not on PS5, Xbox or Game Pass right now, and there is no crossplay. It is a Windows PC exclusive on Steam during Early Access, priced $39.99. BULKHEAD has officially dated a console release: the 10 September 2026 launch trailer ends with the line "COMING TO CONSOLES IN 2028" — but no specific platform (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch) has been named, and nothing about Game Pass, PS Plus or crossplay has been confirmed. If you want to play in 2026, a Windows PC with Steam is the only way in. This guide runs through every platform question players are asking this launch week, all verified against Steam and BULKHEAD's own announcements.

Is WARDOGS on PS5 or Xbox?

Not yet. As of today, WARDOGS runs on Windows PC only. A live read of the Steam store data for WARDOGS (app 1867240) returns `windows: true, mac: false, linux: false` — there is no PlayStation or Xbox build, and the game does not appear on either console store.

Consoles are, however, officially on the roadmap with a year attached. BULKHEAD's WARDOGS launch trailer, published to the Steam announcements feed on 10 September 2026, closes with three lines of text, verbatim:

"WARDOGS. PLAY LIKE YOU USED TO. COMING TO CONSOLES IN 2028. RELEASING ON STEAM EARLY ACCESS TODAY."

That is the single most authoritative statement on console availability, and it says two things clearly: consoles are coming, and they are not coming until 2028. It also, deliberately, does not say which consoles. So while "WARDOGS PS5 2028" and "WARDOGS Xbox 2028" are reasonable expectations, neither has been individually confirmed by BULKHEAD. Treat 2028 as a target window, not a shipped date — WARDOGS is in Early Access, and the studio's stated Early Access period is "around 1 to 2 years," so the PC 1.0 launch and the console launch are both moving targets.

Why is WARDOGS PC-only at launch?

WARDOGS is a 100-player, three-team King-of-the-Hill shooter fought over a shifting "Control Zone" on a 256 km² map. That is a demanding networking and server target, and BULKHEAD built the Early Access on PC first — the platform where it can patch daily, run community-hosted servers, and iterate the economy without a console certification queue in the way. In its first ten days the game has done exactly that, shipping a launch stability hotfix, "Patch 0.11," and multiple server-browser and crash fixes straight to Steam.

The PC-first choice is also selling: BULKHEAD's official Steam announcement "2 MILLION COPIES SOLD" (15 September 2026) confirms the game cleared two million copies inside its first week, after passing 1.25 million on 11 September. With that kind of PC momentum — and a peak of 428,000 concurrent players reported for 13 September — there is no commercial pressure to rush a console port before the PC build settles.

Is WARDOGS coming to Nintendo Switch or Switch 2?

Unconfirmed. The 2028 console line names no platform at all, so Switch, Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox are all in exactly the same position: possible, but unannounced. Given that WARDOGS is a 100-player, large-map shooter with heavy destruction, a Switch version would be a significant technical ask, and BULKHEAD has said nothing to suggest it. Anyone claiming a confirmed Switch release is guessing — the only sourced fact is "consoles in 2028, platform unannounced."

Is WARDOGS on Game Pass or PS Plus?

No. WARDOGS is not on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, PS Plus, or any subscription service. It is a premium buy-to-play title (`is_free: false`) sold for $39.99 on Steam, and that is the only way to own it today. Because there is no Xbox version at all yet, an Xbox Game Pass listing is not even possible right now.

There is no confirmation that WARDOGS will ever land on a subscription service. The publisher is Team17 (part of everplay group plc), and while Team17 titles have appeared on Game Pass before, nothing has been said about WARDOGS specifically. If a console release does arrive in 2028, a Game Pass day-one deal would be a business decision made much closer to that date — not something you can count on now.

Does WARDOGS have crossplay or cross-progression?

No crossplay, and the question is moot until consoles exist. WARDOGS is single-platform, so there is nothing to cross-play with. Steam's category data for the game lists Multi-player, PvP and Online PvP but contains no "Cross-Platform Multiplayer" entry. When consoles do arrive in 2028, crossplay between PC and console would be a fresh decision BULKHEAD has not spoken to.

Cross-progression — carrying your Cash, levels and cosmetics from PC to a future console account — is likewise unconfirmed. It is worth remembering that in WARDOGS, Cash and XP are season-scoped and reset each season (your banked Cash auto-converts to Gold Bars, which persist), so even on PC alone your progression is not permanent. Do not assume a future console version will import your PC account.

Can you play WARDOGS on Steam Deck or Linux?

Not officially at launch. The Steam data lists `linux: false`, and there is no Steam Deck "Verified" or "Playable" rating on the store page. BULKHEAD has said Proton/SteamOS support "may come later," but it is not present today, and the game's kernel-level anti-cheat (listed on Steam as Elytra) is the usual sticking point for anti-cheat-gated shooters on Deck. If you are shopping for hardware specifically to play WARDOGS in 2026, a Windows desktop or laptop is the safe bet, not a Deck.

The system requirements for the PC version

If PC is your route in, here is what BULKHEAD lists on the Steam store page. WARDOGS is Windows 10/11 only.

SpecMinimumRecommended
OSWindows 10 (64-bit)Windows 11 (64-bit)
PlatformWindows only — no Mac, no LinuxWindows only
Anti-cheatKernel-level (listed on Steam as Elytra)Kernel-level (Elytra)

Always check the live store page for the full CPU/GPU/RAM figures before you buy — BULKHEAD has been patching performance (including GPU crash fixes) frequently during launch week, and the listed requirements can move.

Family Sharing was removed — you can't borrow a copy

One recent change matters if you were hoping to try WARDOGS on someone else's copy: Steam Family Sharing has been disabled for WARDOGS. At launch the game supported it; BULKHEAD switched it off on Friday 18 September 2026, a change tracked by SteamDB and reported by PCGamesN under the headline "Wardogs drops Steam Family Sharing as CEO claims its $40 price tag is 'the best anti-cheat.'" The studio's reasoning, per that report, is that banned cheaters were using borrowed and second copies to get back into matches; the CEO's framing is that a $40 buy-in is itself a deterrent.

The practical upshot: every player needs their own $39.99 licence. You can no longer share a single copy across a Steam family group, and Family Sharing no longer appears in the game's Steam category list. This is a hard change from launch day — if you read an older guide saying "WARDOGS supports Family Sharing," it is now out of date.

What to do while you wait for consoles

If you are set on WARDOGS and 2028 is too long to wait, the only move is PC. A Windows machine plus the $39.99 Steam copy gets you into the full 100-player Control Zone today — the same game console players will eventually get, just two years earlier and with daily patches.

Once you are in, the grind is the real barrier, not the platform. WARDOGS deliberately slowed its Season 1 leveling curve (up to 124% more XP needed at level 20), and big-ticket unlocks like the Artillery Tank sit behind Career level 90 plus a $500,000 Cash price. If you want to skip the launch-week grind and get straight to the loadout you actually want to play, that is where a time-saving service fits — you keep your own PC account and simply save the hours.

Short on time to grind out Cash and levels on PC? timesaver.gg can handle the parts of the WARDOGS grind you don't want to:

  • WARDOGS Cash — hand-farmed Cash so you can afford the vehicles and gear that gate every deployment.
  • WARDOGS Career Leveling — push your WARDOG career level past the Season 1 XP nerf, hand-played, no bots.
  • WARDOGS Class Leveling — Medic, Support, Driver, Pilot or Recon levelled to the gate you actually want.
  • Rent a Pro — squad up with a pro and play it yourself; you keep the controller.
  • Browse everything on the WARDOGS services hub.

A fair heads-up: WARDOGS' EULA (dated 10 September 2026) restricts account sharing and paying for progression, and the game runs kernel-level anti-cheat on your Steam account — so read our service pages and decide what fits your comfort level. The Rent a Pro option, where you play your own account alongside a specialist, is the most conservative choice.
