WoW Forever Class Changes: What the Oct 30 Hotfix Did to Druid, Paladin & Mage

Five days before launch, the World of Warcraft: Forever talent trees changed again, and Blizzard hasn't said a word about it. A server hotfix on October 30 rebuilt the Paladin trees, removed Berserk from the Feral Druid tree and slowed Restoration's Wild Growth. Here is what changed, how sure anyone can be, and which classes should rethink their plans before November 4.

Quick answer: Client-data trackers logged 216 talent and spell changes in the October 30 hotfix: 118 Paladin, 43 Druid, 28 Mage, 22 Priest, 3 Warlock and 2 Hunter. Rogue and Shaman got none. The biggest shifts: Feral loses Berserk, Wild Growth goes from instant to a 3-second cast, Protection Paladin gets a large threat and block upgrade, and Ice Lance deals 300% more to Frozen targets. Blizzard has posted no notes for this hotfix, and realms are closed, so nobody can test it yet. Treat these numbers as current data, not confirmed launch balance.

If you only need your launch prep, the WoW Forever launch day checklist covers it. Come back here if you play Druid, Paladin, Mage or Priest.

Did Blizzard confirm the October 30 class changes?

No. Blizzard's official Forever development notes were last updated on October 26 and 27, for racial changes. Neither those notes nor the October 30 hotfix article mention these class changes.

The data comes from the game client itself. WoW Forever Talents reads the client's hotfix cache, and ForeverChanges describes the update as a hotfix "which Blizzard has posted no notes for." The two sites agree on the changes below, and wowforever.be reports the same picture: "The hotfixes are live, but development notes do not confirm them."

Three caveats apply to everything in this guide:

  • It isn't publicly playable. The beta closed on October 23 and live realms don't open until launch.
  • Regions may differ. As of October 31, WoW Forever Talents lists build 1.60.1.70707 for the Americas and Asia and 1.60.1.70685 for Europe. ForeverChanges warns that some values can flip between NA and EU data.
  • It could change again. These trees have moved repeatedly in the final week, so check again on launch day.

The r/classicwow hotfix thread showed 636 votes and about 1,600 comments on October 31, so if you're confused, you're in good company.

What changed for Druids in WoW Forever?

Restoration takes the change players are arguing about most:

  • Wild Growth is now a 3-second cast instead of instant. Five points in Naturalist bring it down to 2.5 seconds.
  • Gift of the Earthmother is gone. It took 0.5 seconds off the global cooldown of Rejuvenation, Swiftmend and Wild Growth.
  • Bloom replaces it. When Rejuvenation or Regrowth expires, the target is healed for 100% of your Spirit, or 50% if the effect was dispelled.
  • Naturalist now gives up to 10% damage instead of 5%.

That moves Restoration away from fast instant casts and toward planned, longer casts with Spirit as a bigger stat. Trackers disagree on Swiftmend: wowforever.be lists a new own-effect requirement, while ForeverChanges says only the wording changed.

Feral Combat loses its burst button but gets a cleaner kit:

  • Berserk is removed from the tree, and Primal Bite takes its row 7 slot. ForeverChanges lists 3 ranks instead of 4, with bonus damage of 42, 62 and 77 (was 26, 38, 59 and 77). The top value is the same, but you reach it in fewer ranks, and the talent now arrives at level 40 instead of 25. WoW Forever Talents numbers the old ranks differently, so treat the rank comparison as a tracker reading.
  • Shifting Power now has an 8-second cooldown built in, so Improved Shifting Power is gone. It requires the new Predatory Discipline talent.
  • Predatory Discipline stops Ferocious Bite from spending extra Energy, while it still deals the extra damage.
  • Lacerate is now a row 4 talent, with a new first rank that deals 20 damage over 15 seconds.
  • Ferocious Bite gets a new first rank at level 24, eight levels earlier.

Some players have read reports saying Berserk moved elsewhere rather than vanishing. Neither client tracker shows a trained replacement, and Maxroll's class overview still lists it, so treat Berserk as unresolved until the client is live.

Balance and the raid aura: Genesis doubles to as much as 10% periodic damage and healing. Moonkin Form's aura and Leader of the Pack now both give 3% Critical Strike chance of every kind, and Maxroll says the two effects don't stack. That's the source of the top r/classicwow complaint today: a Balance capstone now competes with a Feral talent for the same raid slot. If you're choosing by raid value, read our raid-wide buffs breakdown too.

What changed for Paladins in WoW Forever?

WoW Forever Paladin talent trees for Holy, Protection and Retribution after the October 30 hotfix

Paladin alone accounts for 55% of the logged changes. The largest item isn't a talent. Salvation, Mass Salvation, Revoke, Blessing of Light and Greater Blessing of Light are no longer taught by trainers. If that holds, raid threat planning changes, because DPS players can no longer lean on Salvation.

Protection is the winner on paper:

  • Righteous Fury now adds 33% threat to everything, plus another 90% on Holy attacks.
  • Redoubt raises block chance by up to 30% (was 20%).
  • Improved Righteous Fury reduces damage taken by up to 9% (was 6%).
  • Holy Shield moves up to row 5 and no longer needs Templar's Bulwark.
  • Shieldsworn is a new talent: Holy Strike's cooldown drops by 4 seconds, it triggers Holy Shield and Shield Specialization without spending them, and it lets you block spells for 6 seconds.
  • Sacred Duty loses its Stamina, and One-Handed Weapon Specialization is removed.

Retribution trades some identity for numbers:

  • Conviction now has 3 ranks for up to 6% crit with all spells and attacks (was 5% melee).
  • Two-Handed Weapon Specialization now raises all physical damage by up to 6% and cuts threat by up to 20% with a two-hander.
  • Unsealed Wrath replaces Twist of Light. Melee attacks store your active Seal up to 3 times, and landing an attack with a different Seal spends the stacks.
  • Vindication no longer raises your own attack power. Instrument of Law is removed.

Holy becomes a target-healing build:

  • Oath of Light is new: swear on one ally for 5 minutes and your heals on them gain flat bonuses.
  • Holy Power becomes a critical healing bonus of up to 50%.
  • Light's Vigil now works on friendly targets only, at 40 yards.
  • Divine Precision drops to 8% Holy hit (was 18%).
  • Voice of Truth leaves the tree and is trained at level 20 instead.

What changed for Mages, Priests and everyone else?

Mage changes run across two pushes. Frost is the clear gainer on October 30:

  • Ice Lance deals 300% more to Frozen targets (was 200%), but every rank now has an 8-second cooldown.
  • Ice Barrier gives 15% Frost damage for a minute (was 3%), and another 5% while the shield holds (was 3%).
  • Winter's Chill makes each stack add 20% to your next Cone of Cold (was 5%).
  • Arcane Blast is softer on both ends: 12% of Intellect per cast (was 15%), mana cost up 100% per stack (was 175%), and an 18-second duration (was 15).
  • Arcane Resilience goes to 3 ranks for up to 75% of Intellect as Armor.

An earlier October 28 build also removed Arcane Focus, turned Elemental Precision into Precision for all spells, and cut Critical Mass to 3 ranks. ForeverChanges flags the removal of Frost Blast from trainers as uncertain.

Priest: Binding Heal leaves the talent tree and is trained from level 25, so every Priest gets it. Holy Binding takes its slot, healing you for 50% of the Flash Heal you put on someone else. Shadow Word: Death backlash jumps to 30% of your maximum health (was 10%), a serious risk in PvP.

Warrior: Revenge gained 22.5% attack power scaling in the October 30 build. Warlock: Improved Drains now covers Drain Mana instead of Wrack. Racials: the same data carries Blizzard's announced October 26 pass, which we track in our best race for every class guide.

What has Blizzard actually confirmed for classes?

This page began with the first official class pass, and these items came directly from Blizzard's notes:

  • Sept 24: Druid Wrath base damage up about 50%, Warrior Slam cooldown 18 seconds (was 15), Holy Strike cooldown 10 seconds (was 12), and Minor, Lesser and regular Wizard Oil reverted to Classic Era values.
  • Respec cost: the 1 silver price was beta pricing. Blizzard's words: "This is temporary for the Beta only." We found no published launch price in the notes.
  • Cooldown Manager: the optional tracker sits in Options under Gameplay Enhancement, off by default. It has supported all classes, racial abilities and trinkets since October 8, spell ranks became a single entry on October 15, and consumable support is due "in a later patch."

That older data is still useful, but class balance has moved a long way since the level-20 test.

Should you change your main before November 4?

Don't delete anything on this data alone. Use this quick filter:

  • You picked Restoration for instant Wild Growth: rethink it. The fast playstyle you tested is what this hotfix removed.
  • You picked Feral for Berserk: wait for launch data, but plan your build without it.
  • You want to tank: Protection Paladin looks much better than it did before this hotfix. Compare it before you commit.
  • You picked Frost Mage: the damage numbers went up, but the 8-second Ice Lance cooldown on every rank is a real tradeoff. Plan your rotation around it.
  • You play Rogue or Shaman: your plan didn't change, though Rogue players are loudly unhappy about that.

Remember the reservation cap while you weigh a swap: three characters total across all rulesets until November 3. Any saved talent builds from before October 30 are out of date for these classes, so rebuild them in a current calculator. Our leveling tier list and solo class guide were written before this hotfix, so read them with that in mind. Players coming from the old Classic+ rumors can also compare the final game with what we covered in Classic+ versus Season of Discovery.

Late class change and short on time? A last-minute reroll costs you the head start, and a new main still needs gold for training and a mount. These timesaver.gg services are available for Forever:
