WoW Forever Invite-A-Friend Code: Level 10 Fix and Nov 11 Cutoff

WoW Forever Skyborne Epic Pack contents, the edition that comes with three Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes

Quick answer: If your invited friend was stuck at level 10 or couldn't group, join a guild, trade or use some chat channels on launch night, that was a bug. Blizzard confirmed a live hotfix at 02:43 UTC on November 5 and says to log out and back in. A WoW Forever Invite-A-Friend code gives one friend access from launch on November 4 through November 11, 2026 with no subscription or Game Time. The friend must redeem it on Battle.net or in the Battle.net app by November 11, on a WoW account that has not bought any Forever upgrade. The Skyborne Heroic Pack gives 1 code, the Epic Pack and Collection give 3, and the Collector's Edition from the Blizzard Gear Store gives 3. Each code arrives in its own email. Blizzard Support won't replace a lost code or undo one redeemed on the wrong account, and refunding the pack deactivates the code.

Updated November 5, 2026: WoW Forever is live, and the first night brought a new problem. Invited players hit restrictions that looked like a free trial. Blizzard has confirmed it was a bug and hotfixed it. The section below covers what was blocked, the fix, and what the hotfix post doesn't mention. Rules for codes are re-checked against Blizzard's support article, which was updated again on launch night with no change to the rules.

The emails started going out on October 20. Now that the game is live, the questions are why an invited friend can't level or group, why a code was rejected, and whether a mistake can be undone. Some of these can't be undone, so read the redeem rules before anyone buys anything.

Why is my invited friend stuck at level 10 or unable to group?

It was a launch bug, and it's fixed. At 02:43 UTC on November 5, Community Manager Kaivax posted the same notice on the US and EU forums:

"With a hotfix that is now live, we've fixed an issue where players who joined WoW Forever by using an Invite-a-Friend Code were unexpectedly restricted from using certain chat channels, leveling past 10, participating in guilds, forming parties, or trading items with other players. If you experienced this, you may wish to log out and back into WoW Forever." (Kaivax, Blizzard Community Manager)

From the 23:00 UTC launch until Blizzard's hotfix notice at 02:43 UTC, invited accounts behaved like a capped trial. Players on r/classicwow and the official forums reported that quest XP stopped at 10, that party invites failed, and that the guild window wouldn't open. Several assumed the free week had been a trial all along, because the support article never mentioned a cap. The hotfix post shows it wasn't meant to work that way.

If you're still capped, do this:

  • Log out fully and back in. That's Blizzard's instruction. One player in the r/classicwow thread confirmed a relog lifted the cap. If the character select screen alone doesn't do it, exit to desktop and restart the client.
  • Check that you're on the account the code was redeemed on. On a Battle.net login with more than one WoW license, the dropdown in the launcher picks the account.
  • Still blocked after a full restart? Open a ticket in game or through Blizzard Support and say you used an Invite-A-Friend code. Mention the hotfix post so the agent knows it's a known issue.

Mail and the Auction House are a separate question. Some invited players also reported those as blocked. The hotfix post lists chat, leveling, guilds, parties and trading, and says nothing about mail or the Auction House. We haven't seen a Blizzard answer on them yet. Don't assume they'll open up, and don't plan to mail gold to an invited friend until it's confirmed.

Grouped but can't see each other? That's a different problem. After a party invite, Forever shows a pop-up and gives you a window to move to the leader's layer, so you aren't moved instantly. One player in the threads said clicking the layer timer and choosing to refresh now put the group together. That's a single player tip, not a Blizzard instruction. Our live is WoW Forever down? page tracks the phasing and disconnect bugs, and the server status tool shows maintenance as it happens.

Social tab says your friend is "playing a different version of WoW"? One player reported the invite button greyed out with that message while `/invite` with the friend's full character name still worked. It's a single report with no staff reply, so treat `/invite` as a workaround to try, not a confirmed fix.

How do you redeem a WoW Forever friend code?

The buyer copies the code from the email and sends it directly to the friend. The friend then redeems it on Battle.net or through the Battle.net app, signed in to their own account. Do it in this order:

  • Friend confirms they don't already have access. Anyone with an active subscription or Game Time can already play WoW Forever, and Blizzard says they don't need a code. Don't spend one on them.
  • Friend signs in to the right Battle.net account. On accounts with more than one WoW license, check which one you're using.
  • Friend redeems the code before buying anything for Forever. This is the mistake that causes the most damage (see below).
  • Friend installs the client and logs in. Forever went live at 3:00 p.m. PST / 23:00 UTC on November 4, per Blizzard's launch article. In the Battle.net launcher, pick WoW: Forever under Game Version, and the account the code went on if there's more than one.

Blizzard's support article gives a deadline but no earliest redeem date. Access runs on fixed dates, so there's no clock reason to wait, and redeeming early means the code can't get lost. Never share a Battle.net login to have someone else redeem it for you.

Why is my WoW Forever invite code not working?

Most failures match one of the situations in Blizzard's article. The last column shows who said it, because some of these are only player reports.

Will buying a Skyborne pack cancel your friend code?

Yes, if the pack comes first. This is the rule most likely to catch a returning player. Blizzard's wording is direct:

"Codes are not redeemable on accounts that have purchased any of the World of Warcraft: Forever upgrade options." (Blizzard Support, article 000385883)

That includes the $29.99 Heroic Pack, which, unlike the Epic Pack and Collection, comes with no Game Time. On Blizzard's forums, one returning player bought the Heroic Pack while waiting for a friend's code, then found the code blocked on that account. They said the restriction wasn't obvious at checkout. Other players pointed out that the shop page links to the support article, which is where the rule is written.

If this already happened, Blizzard hasn't published a fix. A player in that thread suggested refunding the pack and redeeming the code first. The original poster objected that this could cost them their reserved names, and Blizzard has not confirmed either outcome. The simplest path is to keep the pack and add a subscription or Game Time, which gives access either way.

If a friend wants Skyborne, the better order is to redeem the code first, then decide about the pack. The article doesn't say what happens to the free week if a pack is bought after redeeming, so check before relying on it. The code alone never unlocks the race.

How many Invite-A-Friend codes do you get?

It depends on what you bought and how you upgraded. These counts come from Blizzard's support article and pre-purchase announcement:

PurchaseCodes
Skyborne Heroic Pack ($29.99)1
Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99)3
Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99)3

Where are my missing WoW Forever friend codes?

Each code is sent individually, so Epic and Collection owners should have three separate emails. Blizzard's checklist has three steps:

  • Check the registered Battle.net email address, including junk and spam. One player on the forums found theirs in a promotions folder.
  • Open your Battle.net Transaction History and confirm the order says Complete. Blizzard says you get no codes for failed orders.
  • Rule out a gift order. Gift purchases never qualify.

Two details beyond that checklist can save you a support ticket:

  • Look in your purchase history. In a thread on missing codes, a player found that viewing the purchased package listed every code, and another used this to recover a missing third code. This is a player tip, not a Blizzard instruction, but it takes a minute.
  • Collector's Edition codes go to a different inbox. For Gear Store orders, Blizzard says Legends sends the codes to the email used for the purchase, along with the beta code. If you registered the box on Battle.net and checked only that address, you may be looking in the wrong place. Search the order email first. Some CE owners were still posting that they couldn't find codes in late October, and we saw no Blizzard reply in those threads.

Bought after October 20? Blizzard says codes arrive "shortly after purchase."

If you lose a code after it arrives, Support can't replace it. Blizzard's only fallback is the same in every case: "an active World of Warcraft subscription grants access to World of Warcraft: Forever."

What does a WoW Forever friend code give, and what doesn't it?

The code grants access for one week and nothing else. Blizzard calls this "the first week after launch." It runs without an active subscription on the account where it was redeemed.

The account getsThe account doesn't get
WoW Forever access, November 4 through 11The Skyborne race or its starting zone quests
No subscription or Game Time needed that weekGame Time, or any other version of WoW
Early Name Reservation
Pack cosmetics or the Cerulean Prideclaw mount

The name reservation answer comes from Blizzard Customer Support on the official forums: you need one of the packs or the Collector's Edition. Reservation closed November 3, so an invited friend creates characters now that the game is live. Tell them to have a backup name ready, and see our name reservation guide.

The beta question is settled too. Codes never included beta access, and the beta closed on October 23.

What happens to your friend after November 11?

Free access ends. After that, Forever needs a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. There's no separate box price, as our is WoW Forever free? breakdown explains.

Blizzard hasn't said in writing what happens to a code-only account's characters. When a player asked on the forums whether a friend could keep the same characters with a normal subscription, the replies came from other players, not staff. They expected it to work. It's a reasonable expectation, but don't promise it.

Blizzard gives the end date without an exact hour. Don't leave a final redeem or a last session for late on November 11.

How do you get the most out of the free week?

A week goes fast in a game that starts everyone at level 1, and launch night already cost invited players a few hours.

  • Match ruleset and faction. Blizzard's starter guide says grouping, guilds, dungeons and raids need the same ruleset and the same faction. Launch rulesets are Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay-PvP, with Hardcore later.
  • Watch the PvP rule. On the PvP ruleset you can only create characters for one faction. If you're Alliance there, your friend must roll Alliance too. On launch night, Horde creation on PvP was also being blocked for population balance, which our faction unavailable guide explains.
  • Skip the Skyborne start for the duo. Skyborne begin on Zephras Isle, levels 1 to 12. A friend on a code doesn't get those quests, so pick races that start together.
  • Use the week to decide, not to finish. Nobody casual reaches 60 in a week. Our leveling explainer shows what the pace looks like, and the leveling gear planner shows which upgrades to grab on the way. If the friend sticks around and the paid player wants to catch up on an alt, timesaver.gg's leveling services cover any bracket.

Are free WoW Forever codes on forums real?

Some are real. That doesn't make them safe to rely on, or a good way to share yours.

  • Public codes go fast. Players have posted spare codes in open threads on Blizzard's forums. Another poster claimed bots grab them, which we can't verify. Any code posted in public can be redeemed by the first reader, so send yours in a private message.
  • Don't sell them. A forum MVP told one player that giving codes away is fine but warned against taking anything in return, even gold.
  • Never enter a Battle.net login outside Blizzard's own pages. Sites or Discord bots that promise free Forever codes in exchange for "verification" are phishing for accounts. A player on the forums also warned about a fake Recruit-A-Friend site.
  • It isn't Recruit-A-Friend. That's a separate program with its own rewards. The launch code is a one-off offer tied to Forever upgrades, and the support article lists no reward for the sender.

FAQ

Is the WoW Forever Invite-A-Friend week a trial capped at level 10? No. The level 10 cap, along with blocked parties, guilds, trading and some chat, was a launch bug. Blizzard hotfixed it early on November 5 and says to log out and back in.

Can an invited friend use the mail or Auction House? Blizzard hasn't said. Its hotfix post doesn't mention either, and some players reported them blocked on launch night.

Can I use my own Invite-A-Friend code? No. Codes can't be redeemed on an account that bought a Forever upgrade, and that includes the buyer's account. They're only useful to give away.

What is the last day to redeem a WoW Forever friend code? November 11, 2026. Blizzard says trying to redeem after that returns an error, and access from a code ends the same day.

Can Blizzard replace a lost or misused code? No. Support says it can't replace a misplaced code, a code redeemed on another account, or help with a code claimed on the wrong account.

Does my friend lose access if I refund my pack? Yes. Blizzard says codes are deactivated if the order was refunded or charged back.

Do I need a code if I have a subscription? No. Anyone with an active subscription or Game Time can already play WoW Forever.

Can an invited friend play Skyborne? No. Blizzard says the codes don't grant the new race or its starting zone quests.
