Blizzard changed the racials again on October 26, nine days before launch and one day before Early Name Reservation. Then on October 27 it posted "additions that were intended to be listed" the first time: three Horde buffs and a Skyborne clarification. This is the final pre-launch pass. Dwarf Earth Fury is gone, Orc Command is back, Human Ruthless was halved to 1% crit, Tauren lost its crit bonus, and Skyborne haste dropped from 3% to 2%. Orc Blood Fury now has a 2-minute cooldown, Troll Berserking lasts 15 seconds, and Undead Touch of the Grave can proc every 15 seconds. If you planned your main around the October 15 kits, or read the first version of the patch notes, some of your picks have changed. Below is what changed, why Blizzard did it, and the best race for every class going into November 4, 2026.

All numbers below come from Blizzard's own October 26 racial update and the October 27 addendum, both posted by community manager Kaivax in the WoW Forever development notes thread. For every race those posts did not touch, they are layered on the October 15 beta notes. The beta closed on October 23, so these are the kits heading into launch. Blizzard can still hotfix after November 4.

TL;DR: the best race for every class in WoW Forever after October 27
- What changed: Dwarf Earth Fury (2% crit damage and healing) was replaced by Artisan's Precision (+1% hit with spells and attacks). Orc Savage (1% crit) was removed and Command (+5% Hunter and Warlock pet damage) returned. Human Ruthless went from 2% to 1% crit, and Human Spirit went from 5% to 10%. Tauren Endurance is now only +5% health. Skyborne Wind Blessed went from 3% to 2% haste.
- Added on October 27: Orc Blood Fury cooldown 3 min → 2 min. Troll Berserking duration 10 sec → 15 sec. Undead Touch of the Grave internal cooldown 25 sec → 15 sec. Skyborne Attuned and Charged are removed when you enter a raid.
- Untouched since October 15: Gnome and Night Elf.
- Biggest winners: Orc Hunters and Orc Warlocks (Command plus a faster Blood Fury), Dwarf damage dealers (hit), and Undead casters (Touch of the Grave procs more often).
- Biggest losers: Dwarf healers, Tauren tanks and healers, and anyone who bought a Skyborne pack for the 3% haste.
- Best picks now: Dwarf or Human for Alliance melee, Dwarf for Alliance Hunters. Orc for Horde Hunters and Warlocks. Gnome or Human for Alliance casters, Undead or Troll for Horde casters. Human or Gnome for Alliance healers, Night Elf or Tauren for Druids.
- Rule of thumb: pick the class first. Faction is second, since it decides who you can play with, and race comes last. These are 1% edges, not a new class.
What changed in the October 26 and 27 racial updates?
Blizzard opened the post by explaining what it had been hearing: some new racials "feel too generic", while others are "objectively stronger than others". The fix leans toward identity over balance. In Kaivax's words: "we've prioritized racial identity, which means that some races will naturally be slightly more effective than others at certain combat roles." Where it had swapped role-focused racials for generic ones, Blizzard said it is rolling those changes back. That is why Orc Command returned.
| Race | October 26–27 change (official) | Net effect |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Ruthless crit 2% → 1%; Human Spirit 5% → 10% Spirit | Less damage, more regen |
| Dwarf | Earth Fury removed; new Artisan's Precision: +1% hit with spells and attacks | Damage race now, no longer the healer race |
| Orc | Savage (1% crit) removed; Command re-added: +5% Warlock and Hunter pet damage; Blood Fury cooldown 3 min → 2 min (Oct 27) | Pet classes up; Blood Fury 50% more often for everyone |
| Troll | Berserking duration 10 sec → 15 sec (Oct 27) | Longer burst window, closer to Orc |
| Undead | Touch of the Grave internal cooldown 25 sec → 15 sec (Oct 27) | More frequent procs, best for long fights |
| Tauren | Endurance now only +5% health (crit damage/healing removed); Plainsrunning 2% per stack, max 60% (was 1%, max 30%), no longer affects mounts | Survivability and run speed, no throughput |
| Skyborne | Wind Blessed haste 3% → 2%; Read Leyline (High Order) 50% regen for 15 sec, 100% with the 1-hour Attuned buff; Skysight (Windshaper) 15% speed for 15 sec, 30% with the 1-hour Charged buff; both buffs removed on entering a raid (Oct 27) | Weaker on paper, better while leveling |
| Gnome, Night Elf | No change in either post; October 15 kits stand | — |
Sources: Blizzard WoW Forever development notes, October 26 post and October 27 addendum.
Two Skyborne details are easy to miss. Read Leyline belongs to the Alliance High Order and Skysight to the Horde Windshapers. Attuned comes from using Read Leyline at a Ley Line, and Charged from using Skysight at an elemental convergence. Both last an hour and persist through death, but Blizzard's October 27 clarification says both are removed upon entering a raid. Read Leyline also cannot be used while Innervate is active, because Innervate replaces it as the stronger effect.
What did the October 27 addendum add?
A day after the main post, Kaivax added a reply saying Blizzard had "updated the previous post in this thread with some additions that were intended to be listed." If you read the notes on October 26, you probably missed these:
- Orc Blood Fury: 2-minute cooldown (was 3). Blood Fury gives +10% Attack Power and Spell Power for 15 seconds. That is 50% more uses per fight-hour for every Orc, and it reverses the October 15 change that had raised the cooldown from 2 to 3 minutes. It partly makes up for losing Savage's 1% crit.
- Troll Berserking: 15 seconds (was 10). A 50% longer window. This is the change that makes Troll a real Orc alternative for melee and casters.
- Undead Touch of the Grave: 15-second internal cooldown (was 25). In the October 15 notes it procs 30% of the time for casters and 20% for Paladins, Rogues and Warriors. A shorter cooldown means more procs on long boss fights.
- Skyborne Attuned and Charged now drop when you enter a raid. The hour-long buffs are for leveling and the open world, not raid progression.
Three of the four are Horde buffs, which answers part of the "Alliance racials are BiS" complaint that filled the forums on October 26.
Why didn't weapon specialization come back?
This was the one rollback Blizzard refused. Human Sword Specialization and Orc Axe Specialization stay removed, even though the post admits they "have a strong fantasy component". The reason given: "it is not healthy in the long run for future raid and dungeon loot tables to be evaluated through the lens of 'required' weapon types."
In 2004-era WoW, Human and Orc warriors were the default raid picks mostly because of +5 weapon skill with swords or axes. That made your race a bet on which weapon dropped. Forever is meant to keep adding raids and dungeons after launch, and Blizzard's own reason points at those future loot tables. So Blizzard is keeping loot tables free of race-locked weapon types. The other half of the post is a "tuning pass" on the remaining passives "to help ensure that they aren't skewing outcomes", which is why Human crit and Skyborne haste came down.
How are players reacting to the racial changes?
Badly, and loudly. The official WoW Forever forum filled up with racial threads within a day. One of the loudest complaints is that Alliance racials ended up stronger and more flavorful than Horde ones. Players point to Dwarf hit and Human Spirit next to Orc losing its crit and Tauren losing its throughput. A second group is unhappy about the timing: the changes landed the day before name reservation, when many players had already settled on a race. A smaller but vocal camp argues that a 1% passive should never decide a main.
The October 27 addendum softened that a little: all three additions (Blood Fury, Berserking, Touch of the Grave) are Horde buffs. Our view: the anger is understandable but the numbers are small. The largest single change is a 1% hit or a 5% pet damage bonus. Your gear on December 9, when Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player) and Onyxia's Lair (40-player) unlock, will matter far more than either. Blizzard has not announced another racial pass after October 27, so plan with these numbers.

Which races can play which classes in WoW Forever?
Forever adds six new race/class combos to the Classic lineup: Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Forsaken (Undead) Paladin. The Skyborne race is also available on both factions (Blizzard's Create the Hero guide).
| Race | Classes available in Forever |
|---|---|
| Human | Warrior, Paladin, Hunter (new), Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warlock |
| Dwarf | Warrior, Paladin, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman (new) |
| Night Elf | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Druid |
| Gnome | Warrior, Rogue, Priest (new), Mage, Warlock |
| Skyborne (High Order, Alliance) | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Mage, Druid |
| Orc | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman, Mage (new), Warlock |
| Undead | Warrior, Paladin (new), Rogue, Priest, Mage, Warlock |
| Tauren | Warrior, Hunter, Shaman, Druid |
| Troll | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Shaman, Mage, Warlock (new) |
| Skyborne (Windshaper, Horde) | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman, Druid |
The six new Classic-race combos come with the base game and your subscription. Skyborne requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack ($29.99) or a higher edition. Details on all seven new options are in our race and class combos guide.
What is the best race for each class in WoW Forever?
These are timesaver.gg editorial picks, not simulation results. Nobody can run reliable sims on a launch build that has not shipped. They weigh PvE first, assume a standard damage or healing spec, and add a PvP note where a racial changes the answer. One assumption matters: Forever's hit and crit values have not been fully published. If hit works the way it did in Classic, where missing costs you the whole attack, +1% hit is usually worth at least as much as +1% crit until you reach the hit cap. That reasoning drives the Dwarf picks below.
Warrior
- Alliance: Dwarf for PvE, Human for PvP. Artisan's Precision's +1% hit beats Ruthless' new 1% crit for most raid Warriors, and Stoneform removes bleeds, poisons and diseases. Human keeps Will to Survive (a stun break), which is still the PvP pick. Gnome is the outside choice for Eureka! and +5% maximum Rage.
- Horde: Orc or Troll, near-even. Losing Savage hurts, but Blood Fury (+10% Attack Power and Spell Power for 15 seconds) now has a 2-minute cooldown, so Orc stays the default. Troll's Berserking now lasts 15 seconds, which makes it close enough to choose on looks.
- Tank note: Tauren still has +5% health and War Stomp, but lost the +2% crit damage it gained on October 15.
Paladin
- Alliance: Human for Holy, Dwarf for Retribution. Human Spirit at 10% is the only regen racial an Alliance Paladin can get. Dwarf lost Earth Fury's crit healing but gained hit, which suits Ret, and Stoneform remains top-tier raid utility.
- Horde: Undead (the only option). Will of the Forsaken and Cannibalize are unchanged. Touch of the Grave procs 20% of the time for Paladins and now has a 15-second internal cooldown instead of 25.
Hunter
- Alliance: Dwarf. +1% hit plus Big Game Hunter (+5% damage to Beasts). Human Hunter (new) works but now brings only 1% crit.
- Horde: Orc, clearly. Command's +5% pet damage is back on top of a Blood Fury that is now up every 2 minutes. For a class where the pet is a real share of your damage, this is the biggest Horde gain in the patch. Troll (15-second Berserking, Beast Slaying) is the alternative.
Rogue
- Alliance: Dwarf or Human. Dwarf for hit and Stoneform. Human for Perception (stealth detection) in PvP. Gnome for Eureka! and Escape Artist.
- Horde: Undead for PvP, Troll or Orc for PvE. Orc Rogues lost Savage and do not benefit from Command. With Berserking now 15 seconds, Troll is our slight pick for Rogues, while Orc's 2-minute Blood Fury keeps it close.
Priest
- Alliance: Human or Gnome for healing, Dwarf for Shadow. Human Spirit at 10% feeds mana regen. Gnome (new) gets Eureka!, which also boosts Power Word: Shield, and +5% maximum Mana. Dwarf's +1% spell hit suits Shadow, and Stoneform is still useful.
- Horde: Undead, and more clearly than before. Touch of the Grave procs 30% of the time for casters and can now trigger every 15 seconds instead of every 25. Cannibalize restores mana. Troll's longer Berserking is the raid-throughput alternative.
Shaman
- Alliance: Dwarf (the only Alliance option). Elemental and Enhancement gain from +1% hit. Restoration lost the crit-heal bonus it had for 11 days.
- Horde: Orc for Enhancement, Troll for Elemental and Restoration. Blood Fury buffs Spell Power as well as Attack Power in Forever. Tauren is now a pure survivability and War Stomp pick.
Mage
- Alliance: Gnome or Human. Gnome for Eureka! (10% more damage and reduced costs for 8 seconds) and +5% Mana. Human now brings only 1% crit plus Spirit. Dwarf cannot be a Mage.
- Horde: Undead or Troll. Undead's Touch of the Grave procs more often now, and Troll's Berserking lasts 15 seconds. Orc Mage (new) lost Savage and gets nothing from Command. The faster Blood Fury helps, but it is still the weakest Horde Mage pick.
Warlock
- Alliance: Gnome or Human, for the same reasons as Mage.
- Horde: Orc for PvE, Undead for PvP. Command's +5% pet damage makes Orc the throughput pick, especially for pet-heavy builds. Undead Warlocks took first and second place in the $100,000 Forever Open duel tournament on October 18 (covered in our tournament recap), and Will of the Forsaken still decides fear matchups.
Druid
- Alliance: Night Elf. Unchanged: Elune's Light (+10% crit for 15 seconds), Shadowmeld, and Quickness, which stacks with other speed bonuses.
- Horde: Tauren. Endurance lost its crit damage and healing, but +5% health, War Stomp and the new 60% Plainsrunning cap still suit bears and open-world travel. The Windshaper Skyborne Druid is the paid alternative.
Is Skyborne still worth it after the haste nerf?
It is no longer the obvious best race on paper. Wind Blessed is now +2% haste, still always on for every class, plus +5% damage to Elementals and Walk on Air. In exchange, Blizzard made the active racials much better for leveling. For an hour after a Ley Line visit, High Order Read Leyline casts double mana and health regen instead of adding 50%. For an hour after an elemental convergence, Windshaper Skysight casts give 30% movement speed instead of 15%. Both hour-long buffs survive death but are removed when you enter a raid, so their value is in leveling and the open world.
The trade-offs are the same as before:
- It costs money. Skyborne requires the $29.99 Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition, and the unlock is account-wide. The Heroic Pack never included beta access.
- Class limits. High Order (Alliance) is Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Mage or Druid. Windshaper (Horde) is Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman or Druid.
- Haste already moved twice. It went from 1% to 3% on October 15 and from 3% to 2% on October 26. Do not buy a pack for a passive number.
If you already own a pack and like the fantasy, Skyborne is still a good pick for any class it can play. The full value question is in is the Skyborne race worth $30.
Should you change your race before name reservation?
Only if you picked it for a number that changed. Early Name Reservation opened on October 27 and runs to November 3, per Blizzard's reservation announcement, so you still have several days to settle your race before launch. You can create three characters in total across all rulesets during the window. Blizzard has not announced a race-change service for Forever, so treat race as permanent.
A sensible order:
- Lock your class. If you are undecided, start with best class to level or best class for solo beginners. PvP players can check the best PvP class tier list.
- Agree faction and ruleset with your group. Forever is realmless. You choose Normal, PvP, Roleplaying or the new Roleplay-PvP ruleset (Blizzard's ruleset guide; our rulesets explained). Horde or Alliance is the bigger call.
- Pick the race from the list above.
- Reserve the name. Who qualifies is covered in our name reservation guide, and the permanent choices in character creation: what you can't undo.
Whatever race you pick, the race to December 9 starts on November 4. Forever launches with a fresh economy and the first raids unlock five weeks later.
