Quick answer: The Riverglades is a brand-new contested zone for roughly levels 35-45 in World of Warcraft: Forever, on the southeast coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, east of the Badlands and Burning Steppes. Blizzard says it holds more than 150 new quests. You get there on foot from Redridge Mountains (through Redridge Pass or Blackrock Pass) or by boat from Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris to Powderfuse Port. Alliance players base out of Farholde Keep, Horde players out of Rog'mar. The zone also holds the new Krol'dok Stronghold ogre dungeon (levels 40-45).

What is the Riverglades in WoW Forever?
The Riverglades is one of the new destinations Blizzard added for World of Warcraft: Forever. It isn't in Classic Era, Season of Discovery or retail. The Warcraft Wiki marks it as "exclusive to World of Warcraft: Forever" and lists it as added in patch 1.60.1 on November 4, 2026.
Blizzard's launch article describes it this way:
"In the Riverglades, you'll discover a rugged frontier of rivers, grasslands, trade routes, struggling communities, and old grudges, with more than 150 new quests across much of the mid-30s to mid-40s experience." (Blizzard, World of Warcraft: Forever Now Live!)
The same article names the other new destinations: Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas and Zephras Isle. The Riverglades is the one aimed at the middle of your leveling journey. Many Classic players remember this range as thin on quests. Classic leveling at 35-45 often meant bouncing between Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace, Arathi Highlands and Dustwallow Marsh for leftover quests. In Forever, one whole zone now covers most of that band.
The zone's story starts back in the First War. According to the Warcraft Wiki, the Old Horde sacked the human town of Sunnyglade, and survivors went on to found Windstead, Meadowsbrook and the island fortress of Farholde. In Forever, Sunnyglade is still in ruins and held by the Twilight's Hammer. The Brotherhood of the Horse is still trying to take the land back, and the Bolder'ok ogres have broken with the Twilight's Hammer and sided with the Horde.
What level is the Riverglades, and when should you go?
Here is what each source says about the level range:
| Source | Level range |
|---|---|
| Blizzard launch article | "much of the mid-30s to mid-40s" |
| Warcraft Wiki | 35-45 |
| Wowhead Forever database | 36-44 |
| Krol'dok Stronghold (dungeon, Blizzard) | 40-45 |
Practical rule: go in at 35-36, once you've outlevelled the first Stranglethorn quests, and plan to move on at about 44-45. That's our recommendation, not a Blizzard number: Blizzard lists Krol'dok Stronghold for levels 40-45, so you can still run it at 45, and the next new dungeon, Alcaz Prison (48-53) in Dustwallow Marsh, comes after.
The Riverglades also fits neatly around two other new Forever dungeons:
- The Drowned City (35-40), off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol. Run it right before or during your first Riverglades visit.
- Krol'dok Stronghold (40-45), inside the Riverglades. This is the zone's own dungeon (more below).
On the Blizzard forums, one player posted a route idea in launch week: clear the northern half of Stranglethorn, go to the Riverglades because it's much closer than the old alternatives, and only go back to STV later. It's a community suggestion, not a Blizzard route, but it matches the level bands above.
The level 40 mark matters for another reason too. That's when you can buy Apprentice Riding (100g), and many players will hit 40 somewhere in this zone. If your gold is short, read our WoW Forever mount cost breakdown before you arrive.
How do you get to the Riverglades?
There are four useful approaches. The wiki also lists a fifth link west to the Burning Steppes (west of the Bristle Hills, then north through Blackrock Pass), which matters mostly at higher levels. Which one is best depends on your faction and where you're questing.
1. On foot from Redridge Mountains (best for Alliance). The Warcraft Wiki lists two land routes from the southwest: east through Redridge Pass, south of the Bristle Hills, or west of the Bristle Hills and north through Blackrock Pass. If you're flying out of Lakeshire, this is the shortest trip.
2. By boat from Tanaris (best for Horde in Kalimdor). The neutral Powderfuse Port on the east coast has a boat to Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris. Horde players questing in Kalimdor (Thousand Needles, Tanaris, Dustwallow) can sail straight across without going through Alliance land.
3. On foot from the Badlands (northwest). The wiki shows a land connection north of Twilight's Shroud, the Twilight's Hammer stronghold in the west of the zone. Horde players coming from Kargath or Badlands quests can walk in this way. Be careful, though: Twilight's Shroud is hostile.
4. From the Swamp of Sorrows (south). Walk through Redridge Pass, or swim north from the swamp coast to the shore south of Wheeler's Grange. It's the natural way in if you're questing out of Stonard.
First thing to do when you arrive: get the flight path at your faction hub. Alliance players use Farholde Keep; Horde players use Rog'mar. Both hubs have flight paths, according to the Warcraft Wiki's travel-hub listing.
Where are the Alliance and Horde quest hubs?
The Riverglades is contested, so both factions get a base, and the map makes it easy to tell them apart.
| Settlement | Faction | Where | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Farholde Keep | Alliance | Island in the southeast | Main Alliance town and flight path. Led by Demar Brant (Warcraft Wiki). |
| Rog'mar | Horde | Center, on the main river | Main Horde town and flight path |
| Bolder'ok | Horde-allied | North | Ogre settlement that broke with the Twilight's Hammer |
| Powderfuse Port | Neutral (Steamwheedle Cartel) | East coast | Goblin port with the boat to Tanaris |
| Sunnyglade | Hostile/ruins | Center-west | Ruined human town held by the Twilight's Hammer |
| Twilight's Shroud | Hostile | West | Twilight's Hammer stronghold |
| Wheeler's Grange, Windstead | Minor | Wheeler's Grange in the south | Smaller settlements and quest areas |
Other subzones listed on the wiki include Ashwood's Fall, the Bristle Hills, Eastwind Shore, Elbrim's Farm, Forlorn Pit, Meadowsbrook, Southern Watch, Terral's Watch and Turner's Logging Camp. The river is the easiest landmark to steer by. The Warcraft Wiki says the Riverglades is the only place in World of Warcraft with oxbow lakes, and there are three of them along the main river.
What you'll fight: boars, coyotes, crawdads, crocolisks, gnolls, harvest golems, murlocs and vultures, plus the Twilight's Hammer and ogre camps. If you have gathering professions, crocolisks and boars are steady skinning targets. Blizzard hasn't published herb or ore node lists for the zone, so don't plan a route around a node map yet.
Ruleset warning: the zone is contested, so on the PvP and Roleplay PvP rulesets you should expect the other faction at shared quest areas like Sunnyglade and Twilight's Shroud. On Normal, you only fight other players if you flag yourself. Our rulesets and playing with friends guide explains the difference.

What is Krol'dok Stronghold?
Krol'dok Stronghold is the Riverglades' 5-player dungeon. Blizzard's dungeon overview lists it for levels 40-45, and it's an ogre stronghold. By level, it's the 6th of Forever's 9 new dungeons, which run from level 13 (Hall of Thanes) to 60 (Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace).
In the zone's story, the Horde army that besieged Farholde Keep fled back to Krol'dok after the Brotherhood of the Horse beat them. At the PAX 2026 Forever panel (transcribed by Blizzplanet and cited on the Warcraft Wiki), the developers said they first thought about a gnoll dungeon. They switched to ogres because ogres were just as common in the original game, and that's how the ogres became part of the Twilight's Hammer.
Plan to run Krol'dok at least once around level 42-44, once you've picked up its quests in the zone. Its quest rewards stack on top of the kill XP, and our dungeon XP vs questing breakdown shows why stacking dungeon quests pays off at launch. For gear checks before you queue, use the WoW Forever leveling gear tool. For drops from the dungeons it already covers, use the dungeon loot tables.
If you'd rather skip the group hunt for a launch-week dungeon, timesaver.gg's WoW Forever dungeon boost runs Forever dungeons with you.
How does the Riverglades fit into a 1-60 route?
Here's where the zone sits in a typical Forever leveling plan, using Blizzard's published level bands:
| Levels | Where to go (Classic-era zones plus the Riverglades) | New Forever dungeon |
|---|---|---|
| 30-35 | Stranglethorn Vale (north), Arathi, Desolace / Thousand Needles | City of Dalaran (28-33) |
| 35-40 | Riverglades (first half), STV coast | The Drowned City (35-40) |
| 40-45 | Riverglades (second half), Badlands, Swamp of Sorrows, Tanaris | Krol'dok Stronghold (40-45) |
| 45-50 | Feralas, Hinterlands, Tanaris, Dustwallow | Alcaz Prison (48-53) |
This guide doesn't give a step-by-step order for all 150+ Riverglades quests, because we haven't verified one yet: the zone only went live on November 4. Use the hubs above, pick up everything at Farholde Keep or Rog'mar, and follow the river. Our main WoW Forever leveling guide covers the full 1-60 plan, and the launch XP and dungeon rules show where Forever's numbers differ from Classic.
If you're short on time, timesaver.gg's WoW Forever power leveling covers any range from 1 to 60. That includes the 35-45 stretch where the Riverglades sits, played by hand on the quest route.
Is the Riverglades the same as Zephras Isle or Shen'dralas?
No, though people do mix them up. In one launch-week r/classicwow post, a new player ran all the way to the Riverglades at level 3, thinking it was the Skyborne starting zone.
- Zephras Isle is the Skyborne starting zone for levels 1-12 (Blizzard). See our Zephras Isle guide.
- Shen'dralas is a separate new destination between Mulgore and Desolace in Kalimdor, tied to the Shen'dralar and Dire Maul (Blizzard).
- Mount Hyjal is the northern Kalimdor zone about the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat (Blizzard). The Hyjal Summit raid opens on December 9.
- The Riverglades is in the Eastern Kingdoms for levels 35-45, with no starting-zone content.
What changed on Nov 7, 2026?
- First version of this page, for the live game.
- No Riverglades-specific change appears in Blizzard's Nov 5 hotfix list, which fixed respawns and quests in Durotar, Dustwallow Marsh, the Swamp of Sorrows and Zephras Isle. Blizzard has announced class tuning for November 10.
- If you can't log in at all, that's a server problem, not a zone problem. Check the Is WoW Forever down? status hub or the live WoW Forever server status tool.
