You get them from matches, objectives, Squad Building Challenges and selling players on the Transfer Market, and you spend them on everything the market sells: players, position modifiers, chemistry styles, contracts and the fodder that SBCs eat.

They are not the same thing as FC Points. Points are bought with real money and only open packs; coins buy the exact card you want at a price you can see. That is why a coin balance is worth more than the equivalent spend on packs — you are buying a known outcome instead of a chance at one, and anything you buy on the market can be sold again later.
