Updated October 23, 2026. Applies to Battlefield 6 Multiplayer in Season 5: Siege of Vegas. This guide uses EA's Game Update 2.1.1.0 for the new roster and catch-up challenges, alongside the published 1.3.3.0 ballistics and 1.4.3.0 Interdictor changes. REDSEC-specific changes are labelled separately.
The best sniper rifle in Battlefield 6 depends on whether you want long-range positioning, reliable follow-up damage or an accessible starting weapon. Season 5 adds the ELR-40, while an Interdictor catch-up challenge makes the old event-only advice obsolete. Below, compare seven rifles, EA's published sweet-spot ranges, unlock routes and the attachment decisions worth testing before spending hours on one weapon.
Quick answer: Start with the M2010 ESR if you need an immediately available sniper; consider the ELR-40 for extreme-range play and its alternative single-shot configuration; choose the Interdictor when you value its documented damage consistency. The Interdictor now has a catch-up challenge. There is no single winner across all engagement ranges, and EA has not published a complete numeric ELR-40 stat sheet in the sources cited here.

What are the best sniper rifles in Battlefield 6?
Our recommendations are role-based, not a claimed win-rate leaderboard. EA supplies reliable balance figures for the older rifles, but comparing those against an invented ELR-40 damage table would make a precise-looking ranking less useful.
| Recommendation | Rifle | Why consider it? | Main qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best starting choice | M2010 ESR | Default unlock; published 760 m/s muzzle velocity | Its documented sweet spot is 75–100m |
| First to try for extreme range | ELR-40 | EA describes the furthest sweet spot in its archetype and best bullet-drag performance | Exact distances are not supplied in the cited announcement |
| Best documented damage consistency | Interdictor | EA's rework emphasises chest and limb damage consistency | Not a universal full-health body one-shot |
| Best established 100m lane choice | L115A3 | Published 100–133m sweet spot | Lower listed velocity than the M2010 ESR |
| Alternative for 90–120m lanes | PSR | Published 30m sweet-spot window | EA describes a lower effective fire rate |
| Follow-up-shot option | Mini Scout | EA highlights rapid follow-up shots | No sweet-spot band supplied in the cited table |
| Closer-range bolt-action option | SV-98 | Published 54–75m sweet spot | Unlocks at Career Rank 26 |
The ELR-40's position is a recommendation based on its stated role, not a claim that it beats every rifle on every statistic. In the Season 5 roadmap, EA says it features “the best bullet drag performance and the furthest sweet spot in its weapon archetype”. That is enough to make it the first long-range rifle to investigate, but not enough to publish an exact velocity or chest-damage value.
For a broader loadout decision, our Battlefield 6 weapons tier list covers the other weapon classes. A sniper recommendation should not force you into a role that does not suit the objective.
How many sniper rifles are there, and how do you unlock them?
The six rifles on EA's older catalogue plus the Season 5 ELR-40 give this guide seven entries. The catalogue still carries a Season 4 label, so it cannot independently answer a current-roster question. Read it together with the newer patch notes.
| Rifle | Officially documented unlock information | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| M2010 ESR | Default Unlocked | Select it before starting a separate unlock grind |
| SV-98 | Career Rank 26 | Your account's Career Rank |
| PSR | Assignment DEADEYE 2 | The Assignment requirements |
| Mini Scout | Season 1 Catch-Up Challenge | The current challenge menu |
| L115A3 | Season 3 Catch-Up Challenge | The current challenge menu |
| Interdictor | Season 4 catch-up challenge added in 2.1.1.0 | The newer challenge, not expired event advice |
| ELR-40 | New Season 5 sniper | Its current in-game unlock requirement; no tier asserted here |

Only the SV-98 has a Career Rank requirement in this table. Raising account rank is therefore not a substitute for completing the PSR Assignment or a catch-up challenge. This is also why the earlier advice to rush the Interdictor before Season 4 ended is no longer appropriate: EA explicitly added its catch-up challenge.
Separate unlocking the rifle from levelling it afterward. A weapon can be available while the optic or ammunition configuration you want is still locked. Check both screens before deciding which grind you actually need.

What does the ELR-40 change about sniper selection?
The ELR-40 gives the class a new range-switching decision. EA describes its standard configuration as having a very long-range sweet spot, while the single-shot option shifts that sweet spot toward shorter distances. The roadmap specifically connects its long-range role with Area 51's open sightlines.
That does not mean every player should copy the same attachment combination. Choose your intended engagement range first. If you repeatedly push into close fights, testing the alternative configuration makes more sense than equipping a long-range setup and hoping it behaves identically.
The important evidence boundary is distance. The official announcement does not give a numeric band for either configuration. Player tests and third-party builds can help you experiment, but they are not EA patch-note values. Our separate ELR-40 sweet-spot and unlock guide distinguishes those reports from confirmed information.
Today's player discussion also shows why a simple “camp farther away” answer misses the audience: commenters describe both enjoying the L115 and pushing objectives with snipers. Those are playstyle reports, not balance proof. The practical question is whether your preferred range suits the rifle, not whether another player's clip looks impressive.
Which sniper sweet-spot ranges has EA actually published?
Use these as documented balance baselines, not as an excuse to ignore later weapon-specific changes. EA's 1.3.3.0 notes narrowed four named bolt-action windows; the 1.4.3.0 notes separately changed the Interdictor.
| Rifle | Published sweet spot | Window width | Source update |
|---|---|---|---|
| SV-98 | 54–75m | 21m | 1.3.3.0 |
| M2010 ESR | 75–100m | 25m | 1.3.3.0 |
| PSR | 90–120m | 30m | 1.3.3.0 |
| L115 | 100–133m | 33m | 1.3.3.0 |
| Interdictor | 120–160m | 40m | 1.4.3.0 |
| Mini Scout | Not supplied in this balance table | Not asserted | — |
| ELR-40 | Long-range standard / shorter-range single-shot | Exact numbers not asserted | Season 5 announcement |
Among the four rifles narrowed in 1.3.3.0, the combined window widths fell from 186m to 109m: a calculated 41.4% reduction. That is historical context for more deliberate positioning, not a fresh Season 5 nerf.
The L115 has the widest window of those four, not the widest window across the entire current class. The Interdictor's separately published 40m band is wider, and EA describes the ELR-40's standard sweet spot as the furthest out. “Widest” and “furthest” answer different questions.
Treat a map as a positioning aid rather than a promise of damage. Before settling into a firing position, identify where opponents are likely to cross your intended range, where you can move after firing and whether the lane contributes to the objective.
This official Fort Lyndon overview is a general positioning illustration, not a measured sweet-spot map or a guide to Area 51.
Which sniper has the fastest bullet?
Among the five snipers with explicit velocities in the 1.3.3.0 table, the M2010 ESR and Mini Scout tie at 760 m/s. That statement deliberately excludes rifles for which the cited table provides no velocity; it is not an all-seven-rifle speed crown.
| Rifle | Published muzzle velocity |
|---|---|
| M2010 ESR | 760 m/s |
| Mini Scout | 760 m/s |
| PSR | 680 m/s |
| SV-98 | 680 m/s |
| L115 | 664 m/s |
At constant muzzle velocity, a hypothetical 300m journey takes about 395ms at 760 m/s and 452ms at 664 m/s. These are simplified distance-divided-by-speed calculations, not measured in-game travel times. Drag changes the real result.
That distinction matters because the same update increased Bullet Drag by 40% across all weapons and by 100% when using Match Grade ammo. Muzzle speed alone cannot establish the best long-distance rifle, especially now that EA explicitly highlights the ELR-40's drag performance.
For practice, hold the rifle and configuration constant while testing moving targets. Changing multiple attachments and switching rifles between attempts makes it harder to distinguish a lead-timing problem from a setup change.

Is the Interdictor still worth unlocking?
Yes, if its documented damage consistency fits your role. Update 1.4.3.0 increased minimum damage from 62 to 80, made limb damage match chest damage and set sweet-spot damage to 100 across 120–160m. EA described the result as “making two-hit kills much more reliable and one-hit kills on damaged foes more common”.
Do not shorten that to “one-shot anywhere”. The quotation explicitly discusses damaged enemies, and the patch separately describes its sweet spot. Also keep REDSEC armour rules separate: that update increased Interdictor damage against armour in REDSEC to 100 regardless of hit location or distance. That is not a universal Multiplayer damage rule.
The newer catch-up challenge is the important purchasing and planning detail. You no longer need to treat an old Season 4 event label in the catalogue as proof that the rifle is unavailable. Check the live challenge requirements, then plan the attachment progression on the weapon you intend to use.
Which scope and attachment choices should you prioritise?
Start with readable magnification, a configuration suited to your engagement range and attachments you can actually equip. EA's loadout guide describes the Attachment Point system and the Firing Range; it does not supply a universal best build for every sniper.
There are three useful checks before copying a build:
- Unlock status: owning the rifle does not prove that every attachment is available.
- Point budget: compare the complete setup, not an isolated attachment recommendation.
- Sight picture: test the optic against the backgrounds and distances where you actually fight.
The old PS5 scope-border warning also needs updating. Game Update 1.4.3.5 says scope edges now display at their intended thickness for its listed optics, including 1P86 Variable and 1p88 variable. Do not repeat September advice that this specific fix is still merely planned.
If you have a current visual issue, record the exact optic and platform. An old acknowledged bug is not evidence that every new scope complaint has the same cause.
How should you plan sniper weapon levelling?
Use the unlock table first, then focus on the rifle's Hardware Rank. EA's progression guide distinguishes Career XP from Hardware XP and says Hardware Rank unlocks weapon attachments and other weapon-specific rewards.
That distinction prevents wasted effort: Career Rank 26 addresses the SV-98 unlock, but it is not a promise that your chosen sniper's attachments are finished. Likewise, a catch-up challenge and the subsequent attachment progression are separate jobs. Our weapon unlocks and levelling guide covers that split in more detail.
No fixed kill count or completion time is promised here. Your starting rank, required attachments and unfinished challenge requirements change the work involved. Decide which rifle and configuration you want before comparing services.
Need help with the attachment grind? Check the scope of timesaver.gg's weapon-leveling service against your exact rifle and target attachments. Career Rank is a separate objective, not a substitute for weapon progression.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best sniper rifle in Battlefield 6? Start with the M2010 ESR for accessibility, investigate the ELR-40 for extreme-range play and consider the Interdictor for its documented damage consistency. These are role-based recommendations, not a universal performance ranking.
How many sniper rifles does this guide cover? Seven: the six on EA's Season 4 catalogue plus the Season 5 ELR-40. The older catalogue should not be used alone to count the current roster.
Can I still unlock the Interdictor? Update 2.1.1.0 added a Season 4 catch-up challenge for it. Check that challenge rather than relying on the catalogue's older event-only label.
What is the ELR-40 single-shot sweet spot? EA confirms that the single-shot configuration moves its sweet spot toward shorter distances, but the official announcement cited here does not provide numeric boundaries. Player-tested distances should remain labelled as community findings.
Which sniper should an aggressive Recon player try? Test a rifle and configuration appropriate to shorter engagements rather than copying an extreme-range setup. The ELR-40's alternative configuration is officially described as shifting its sweet spot closer, while the SV-98 has a published 54–75m band. Neither guarantees a particular result in every close fight.
Does account levelling unlock sniper attachments? Career Rank and weapon Hardware Rank are separate progression systems. Career Rank unlocks the SV-98 at 26; weapon-specific attachments belong to Hardware Rank progression.
