Battlefield 6 Best Weapons: Season 5 Tier List by Class

The Battlefield 6 meta changed more in Season 5 than the patch notes suggest. Season 5 added four weapons on October 13, 2026, and one of them, the Z84M, went straight to the top of its class. On the multiplayer side, EA's weapon changes were one DMR recoil tweak, a cut to controller recoil compensation and two fixes, for the SG 553R's Match Trigger and an SU-230 LPVO visual-recoil bug. The headline nerfs everyone talks about, to the SCW-10, KV9 and SG 553R, only apply to REDSEC battle royale.

This tier list ranks every weapon class for Battlefield 6 multiplayer as it stands on Game Update 2.1.1.0, the live build since Season 5 launched. It was re-checked against EA's update notes and community updates on October 28, 2026. Each pick comes with its unlock route, because most of the guns at the top of this list are not ones you get by default.

Quick answer: The best Battlefield 6 weapons in Season 5 are the TR-7 (assault rifle, 167 ms close-range kill), the KV9 and SCW-10 (SMGs, from 10 m out and inside 10 m respectively), the new Z84M (LMG, the fastest-killing LMG up to 75 m on tracker data), and the AK-205 (carbine, the lowest recoil variation EA has published for any weapon, 7.4 degrees). The M433 is the best gun you own from your first match. Plan around November 10, 2026: EA has said it is looking at nerfing the extended magazines on the SCW-10 and KV9 in Season 5 Phase 2.

What are the best weapons in Battlefield 6 Season 5?

EA does not publish a tier list. It does publish recoil and muzzle velocity tables, the last full set in Update 1.3.3.0, which still govern every weapon that 2.1.1.0 did not touch. We ranked each class on those numbers, plus time to kill, plus how much it costs to unlock each gun. All times to kill here are chest hits on an unarmoured 100-health target using Battlefinity's damage tables (a third-party tracker). Close-range figures are pure fire-rate arithmetic; the mid and long-range assault rifle and LMG figures are Battlefinity's own travel-adjusted outputs, and the SMG figures are our arithmetic from its damage bands.

The unlock routes come from EA's live weapon roster. The Battle Pass tiers for the Season 5 guns come from third-party guide sites, not EA, which has not added the four new weapons to that roster page yet. The page still reads "Recently Updated for Season 4".

The Battlefield 6 weapon tier list

This list covers the guns with the clearest case for or against them, not every weapon in the game; for a complete class-by-class ranking, use the class guides linked below. Within each tier, guns are grouped by class rather than ranked against each other. An SMG and a sniper rifle do different jobs, so comparing them directly does not tell you much.

S tier: TR-7, KV9, SCW-10, Z84M, AK-205. These are the fastest killers in their classes, plus the AK-205, which has the most consistent recoil in the game. Every one of them has a cost: TR-7 and Z84M recoil, KV9's 50.0 degrees of recoil variation, SCW-10's 15-round base magazine, and what EA itself calls the AK-205's "average cyclic rate".

A tier: M433, SG 553R, VCR-2, M123K, M240L, KTS100 MK8, SVDM, M87A1. The M433 fires at 830 rpm, is unlocked from the start, and is the third-fastest AR killer at 50 m and past 75 m. The SG 553R does 35 damage at 720 rpm, so it shares the TR-7's 167 ms close-range kill. The KTS100 MK8 is the easiest LMG to control in the game (9.5 degrees of recoil variation, against a class average of about 29.5), but it kills slowly.

B tier: Mk 24, RSPR, DRS-IAR, M277, B36A4, CZ3A1, SGX, L110, ELR-40. These are good guns with one clear weakness each. The Mk 24 relies on headshots, the RSPR is a slower SCW-10, and the B36A4 keeps its close-range damage out to 35 m, so on Battlefinity's figures it beats the TR-7 between 20 and 35 m (250 ms against 266), but falls behind up close and past 35 m. The SGX and L110 are the best free SMG and LMG.

C tier: SOR-556 MK2, SL9, UMG-40, PW7A2, DB-12. These are mostly guns with steady recoil and slow kills. The SOR-556 MK2 has the lowest recoil variation of the ten assault rifles EA rated (12.7 degrees) and is the slowest-killing AR at every range. The DB-12 is last among the four shotguns, and EA has not balanced it since Update 1.2.2.0.

What did Season 5 change for weapons in multiplayer?

Less than most coverage implies. The weapons section of the Game Update 2.1.1.0 notes has four changes that matter for multiplayer:

  • SVDM and M39 EMR recoil. "Recoil Direction on the SVDM changed from 4° to 20°" and the recoil decrease time exponent on both rifles rose from 0.75 to 1.1. EA's dev note says these changes "negligibly affect intended methodical use, but will be more noticeable over rapid, sustained fire." Fire them at a steady rhythm and they still work. Spam the trigger and they don't.
  • Controller recoil assist cut. "Reduced recoil compensation for gamepad input from 11% to 5%." That cuts the help controller players get by more than half, and it is why low-recoil guns like the AK-205 and KTS100 MK8 are worth more on console now.
  • SG 553R fix. "The Match Trigger now functions correctly on the SG 553R in semi-automatic fire mode."
  • SU-230 LPVO fix. "The SU-230 LPVO no longer incorrectly reduces visual recoil on the following weapons: M433, GRT-BC, M123K, M250, M121A2, M417A2." It only changes visual recoil, but it touches two A-tier guns on this list, the M433 and M123K.

The bigger nerfs everyone talks about only apply to REDSEC. The SG 553R, SCW-10 and KV9 each take one more bullet to kill against armour, and those lines sit under the patch's REDSEC section. EA's dev note explains why: "Particular weapons like the SG 553R, SCW-10, and KTS100 Mk8 have been at the forefront of highlighting this issue", and targeted nerfs would only have pushed players to "similar weapons like the NVO-228E, KV9, and RPK-74M". In regular multiplayer, none of those three guns got a damage change.

Season 5 also launched with a progression problem. XP earn rates, including weapon progression, were throttled until October 15, and EA's official comms account said that day: "These backend changes have now been reverted, and our team is actively monitoring telemetry to ensure earn rates return to intended levels across all experiences." We covered that in detail in our Season 5 XP cap breakdown.

Are the new Season 5 weapons worth unlocking?

There are four new weapons, and only one of them is a clear upgrade on what you already have.

  • Z84M (LMG): yes. EA's roadmap describes it as built "for close-range aggression", with "significant recoil and handling trade-offs". Tracker data gives it the same damage and fire rate as the TR-7 (35 damage up close, 720 rpm), with a 100-round box instead of 20 rounds. It also has a 6.7-second reload and the lowest control rating of any LMG (35). Full breakdown in our Z84M loadout guide.
  • ELR-40 (sniper): yes, for long-range Recon players. EA says its standard configuration "features a very long-range sweet spot, while its single-shot mode moves the sweet spot to shorter distances". EA has published no numbers for either sweet spot.
  • RSPR (SMG): situational. It has the SG 553R's damage and fire rate with a 20-round magazine. It also has the lowest control rating of all 11 SMGs on the tracker. It is slower to kill than the SCW-10 at every range.
  • Mk 24 (assault rifle): only if you aim for the head. It takes one more body shot to kill than the AK4D at every range. But its 1.8x headshot multiplier is the highest of any AR, so with two headshots it beats an all-body-shot AK4D at every range. See our Mk 24 vs AK4D comparison.

One player summed up the first week of opinion on r/Battlefield6 like this: "For Season 5 weapons: Z84M (amazing) >> RSPR (decent) > MK 24 (meh)". Our numbers agree with that order.

On unlocks: EA's Battle Pass page lists a sniper rifle, an assault rifle and a machine gun as free Season 5 rewards, but uses internal code names rather than the in-game ones. Third-party guides put the ELR-40 at Tier 5 of the Recruit Path, and the Mk 24, Z84M and RSPR at Tier 11 of the Audacious Breach, Fate's Reckoning and Access Defied paths. EA's free list names no SMG, so treat the RSPR as probably free but not confirmed by EA.

How do you unlock the best Battlefield 6 weapons?

There are three unlock systems, and the top of this tier list uses all three. Our full guide to weapon unlocks explains how each one works. Here is how they line up with the list above.

Career Rank unlocks guns automatically as your account levels: M4A1 at Rank 2, M39 EMR at 4, DRS-IAR at 9, M277 at 11, B36A4 at 14, AK-205 at 22, SOR-556 MK2 at 25, M417 A2 at 32, AK4D at 35, M123K at 38, GRT-BC at 41, KV9 at 45, M250 at 46 and TR-7 at 50. Two of the five S-tier guns are at the very end of this ladder.

Assignments are challenge chains: the SCW-10 (CLOSE QUARTERS 1), SG 553R (DANGER CLOSE 2), KTS100 MK8 (BULLET STORM 1), M240L (BULLET STORM 2) and SVDM (DEADEYE 1).

Battle Pass and catch-up challenges cover the seasonal guns. Update 2.1.1.0 added Season 4 catch-up challenges for the BROD 3, Interdictor and VSSM. The EF88 did not get one, so if you missed it in Season 4 there is currently no announced way to unlock it.

If you are a new or returning player, Career Rank is what holds you back: the TR-7 and KV9 need Rank 50 and 45. Career Rank boosting gets you straight to those unlocks.

Why weapon level matters more than the tier list

Unlocking a gun gives you the base weapon. The version people rank as meta is the fully built one, and most of its attachments unlock as that specific weapon's Hardware Rank rises through its own Hardware XP. Levelling one gun does nothing for another. Attachment Points are a separate thing: a fixed budget (100 points on the top tracker builds) that limits which combination of unlocked attachments you can equip at once.

How far you need to level each Season 5 gun, from tracker build data:

  • Z84M: all five top builds use the 100RND Canvas Pouch, which unlocks at weapon level 30.
  • RSPR: the 28-round magazine (there is no 30-round option) arrives at level 40.
  • Mk 24: the 30-round magazine is its last unlock, at level 40. Until level 24 you are stuck with the 20-round magazine; the 25-round options arrive at levels 24 and 32.
  • ELR-40: Single Shot unlocks at level 13, but the full tracker build needs level 40.

EA has never published how much Hardware XP a weapon level takes or how fast you earn it. Its progression page only uses descriptions like "a significant amount of Hardware XP". So anyone quoting exact hours to max a gun is guessing. EA does confirm that part of Hardware XP comes passively over time, but that passive gain "isn't as much as performing in-game actions with that Hardware piece".

If you know which gun you want but not the 30 to 40 levels behind its build, weapon leveling skips that part.

What changes on November 10?

Season 5 Phase 2, "Casino Heist", arrives on November 10, 2026, and EA has confirmed it brings multiplayer weapon balance changes. From EA's October 21 More to Season 5 community update: "we've looked at nerfing the extended mags on the SCW-10 and KV9 and also buffing some underused attachments available across many weapons. We are finalizing a pass on these changes as well as other weapon balance updates scheduled to arrive in Season 5 Phase 2."

Here is what that means for this list:

  • Two of the five S-tier guns are in line for a nerf. EA has published no numbers. EA has named the extended magazines as the target but not what the change will be.
  • A new carbine is coming. EA's Season 5 roadmap graphic lists the NSW4 carbine for Casino Heist. No stats or unlock route have been published, and the roadmap text does not mention it.
  • Phase 3 on December 8 adds the MK 1 MOD 0 DMR, according to the same roadmap graphic, plus the Server Browser and Platoons.

EA has announced no Phase 2 changes to the four guns that launched with Season 5, including the Z84M. This page will be updated once the Phase 2 update notes are published.

Is the M277 still bad?

No. The M277 is a Career Rank 11 carbine whose recoil EA has cut twice. Update 1.2.1.0 reads: "M277: Reduced recoil, improving effectiveness at range." Update 1.3.3.0 then cut its recoil variation by another 12.7 percent. It is not top tier, but it is one of the best guns you can get early, and much better than its reputation.

FAQ

What is the best weapon in Battlefield 6 right now? For Season 5 on Update 2.1.1.0, the TR-7 has the fastest close-range assault rifle kill (167 ms) and the Z84M is the fastest-killing LMG up to 75 m on tracker data; past that, the M250's flat 267 ms is quicker. If you have not unlocked anything yet, the M433 is the best gun you start with.

What is the best SMG in Battlefield 6 Season 5? It depends on range. The SCW-10 kills fastest inside 10 m (150 ms). The KV9 kills fastest at every distance beyond that, but it needs Career Rank 45. EA has said both could lose some extended-magazine strength on November 10.

Did Season 5 nerf the SCW-10 and SG 553R in multiplayer? No. Their "one more bullet to kill" changes in 2.1.1.0 only apply against armour in REDSEC battle royale. In multiplayer, the only SG 553R change was a Match Trigger fix.

Is the Z84M free? Third-party guides report it unlocks at Tier 11 of the Fate's Reckoning path in the Season 5 Battle Pass without buying the premium pass. EA's free rewards list includes a machine gun but uses an internal name, so this is likely but not officially spelled out.

Does Career Rank unlock attachments? No. Career Rank unlocks base weapons. Most attachments unlock as each weapon's own Hardware Rank rises, and Attachment Points cap which combination of them you can equip at once. That is why a freshly unlocked meta gun feels weaker than the tier list suggests.

Is there a camo service for Battlefield 6? No. Camos and mastery challenges are earned in game, and we do not sell a Battlefield 6 camo product. Our Battlefield 6 services cover weapon leveling, Career Rank, account leveling, vehicles, campaign and bot lobbies.

The short version

In Season 5, the best gun in each class is mostly the one that kills fastest: TR-7, KV9 or SCW-10 depending on range, Z84M, and the AK-205 if you want consistency over speed. Most of these sit behind Career Rank 45 to 50, an assignment, or the Season 5 Battle Pass, and their top tracker builds call for weapon level 29 or higher.

Use the SCW-10 and KV9 while you can, because both are in line for a nerf on November 10. Of the four new Season 5 guns, the Z84M is the one worth grinding first.

Want the meta build without the Hardware XP grind? We can level the exact gun you want or push your Career Rank to the unlock you need.
