Genshin 7.1 Maintenance Time: Downtime, Compensation and Pre-Install Size

HoYoverse published the Version 7.1 Update Maintenance Preview this morning, and it answers the three questions people actually ask before a patch: when the servers go down, how long they stay down, and how many Primogems you get for the inconvenience. It also quietly answers a fourth one that nobody asks until their phone runs out of space — how big the pre-install is, and what it costs you this time compared with last version.

The awkward part is the clock. The notice prints one time, in one time zone, and roughly nobody plays in that time zone.

Quick answer: Version 7.1 update maintenance begins 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8) and is estimated to take 5 hours. That start time is one global instant, not a per-server number: it is 22:00 UTC on 22 September 2026, which reads 06:00 on 23 September on the Asia server clock, 23:00 on 22 September on Europe, and 17:00 on 22 September on America. Servers should be back around 03:00 UTC on 23 September. Compensation is Primogems ×300, paid at 60 Primogems per hour of downtime, to every account at Adventure Rank 5 or above at the moment maintenance starts. Pre-installation is live now and costs 10 GB on PC and 4 GB on mobile — up from 8 GB and 3 GB in Version 7.0.

Article status: written 21 September 2026. Every figure below was read today from the live in-game announcement feed (announcement 21927) and cross-checked against the same notice mirrored on HoYoLAB as Version 7.1 Update Maintenance Preview, where HoYoverse labels its own timestamps "(UTC+8)" explicitly. No leak, datamine or third-party tracker is used anywhere on this page.

What time does Genshin 7.1 maintenance start on my server?

HoYoverse's wording, verbatim from the notice: "The development team will begin update maintenance on 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8) … Update maintenance begins 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8) and is estimated to take 5 hours."

That timestamp carries the t_gl tag in the announcement body — the global tag. All four timestamps in the notice do; there is not a single t_lc local tag anywhere in it. That matters, because event durations in Genshin's feed use t_lc and mean your server's wall clock, which is why event end times land at three different real-world moments. Maintenance is the opposite: everybody goes down together.

So there is exactly one moment, printed three ways:

ServerMaintenance startsEstimated back online
Asia (UTC+8)06:00, 23 September11:00, 23 September
Europe (UTC+1)23:00, 22 September04:00, 23 September
America (UTC-5)17:00, 22 September22:00, 22 September
UTC22:00, 22 September03:00, 23 September

Those server offsets are fixed year-round and ignore daylight saving, which is why they drift against your actual local time twice a year. In real-world zones, the servers go down at:

  • 6:00 PM Eastern / 3:00 PM Pacific on 22 September
  • 11:00 PM in the UK on 22 September
  • midnight in Central Europe, rolling into 23 September
  • 3:30 AM in India on 23 September

Back up, assuming the five-hour estimate holds, at 11:00 PM Eastern on 22 September, 4:00 AM in the UK, 5:00 AM in Central Europe and 8:30 AM in India on 23 September.

"Estimated" is doing real work in that sentence. The compensation formula exists precisely because HoYoverse overruns sometimes, and it pays per hour.

How many Primogems is the 7.1 maintenance compensation?

Primogems ×300, described in the notice as "60 Primogems per hour the servers are down." Five hours estimated, 60 per hour, 300 total — the arithmetic is the estimate, so if maintenance runs long the number goes up.

The conditions are worth reading once, because two of them catch people:

  • Eligibility: Adventure Rank 5 or above as of 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8). Not after. If you are AR 4 when the servers go down, you do not get it.
  • Delivery: in-game mail, sent within 5 hours after maintenance finishes. Not a redemption code — there is nothing to enter anywhere.
  • Mail expiry: 30 days. Mail attachments in Genshin die on that timer whether you opened the message or not.
  • Claim deadline: the notice says the compensation must be claimed before the end of Version 7.1.

One precedent worth planning around. In Version 7.0, the same maintenance compensation of Primogems ×300 was followed by a second, separate payment in the Version Update Details notice — an "Issue Fix Compensation: Primogems ×300" with its own, much shorter claim window, which closed on 2026/08/15 06:00 (UTC+8), three days after the update. If 7.1 repeats that pattern, the second 300 will have a deadline measured in days, not weeks. Check your mailbox on day one rather than day ten.

The Version Update Details notice — the one that would carry any such extra payment, plus the full changelog — is scheduled by HoYoverse for 2026/09/23 07:00 (UTC+8), which is 23:00 UTC on 22 September. That is an hour after maintenance begins and four hours before it is due to end.

How big is the Genshin 7.1 pre-install?

PC: 10 GB. Mobile: 4 GB. HoYoverse footnotes it: "The exact download size may differ depending on which voice-over packs are installed. The estimate above is based on a typical setup with one voice-over pack selected." Run more than one language pack and budget more.

The version-on-version trend is not subtle:

VersionPC pre-installMobile pre-install
7.08 GB3 GB
7.110 GB4 GB

That is +25% on PC and +33% on mobile in a single minor version — a Snezhnaya-sized jump, and a decent argument for clearing space before the night of the update rather than during it.

How do I pre-install Genshin 7.1?

Pre-installation is available now on **mobile, PC, PlayStation and Xbox Series XS**, and HoYoverse recommends doing it over Wi-Fi. The full instructions live inside an image in the announcement rather than in its text, so here they are transcribed.

Mobile — two routes. Either open the Paimon Menu and go to Settings > Resources > Pre-Install Resource Package, or tap the Pre-Install Resource Package icon in the bottom-left corner of the login screen. The warning attached to it is the important bit: "Travelers on mobile platforms will be unable to play the game while pre-installing game resources." Start it when you are done playing for the day, not ten minutes before your resin caps.

PC. A Pre-Install button appears to the left of Start Game in the launcher. HoYoverse notes that using it "even without completing the process" still speeds the launcher's eventual update — so a partial pre-install is not wasted.

PlayStation. Nothing to do. Pre-installation begins automatically when the game is launched, provided the console has the storage free.

**Xbox Series XS. From the system main menu, open My games & apps, go to the Manage tab and open the Updates** page.

After the servers come back, updating is the usual per-platform drill: PC users close the game and hit Update in the launcher; iOS users must go to the App Store and tap Update, because Apple's rules do not allow the in-app path; Android users open the game and follow the on-screen prompts; PlayStation owners highlight the game, press OPTIONS and choose Check for Update; Xbox owners return to My games & apps > Manage > Updates.

How long is the gap between the last 7.0 wish and maintenance?

This is where a lot of coverage gets it wrong by publishing a single number, and it is worth stating carefully.

The final Version 7.0 Event Wishes end at 2026/09/22 14:59:59 server time, and that timestamp is tagged t_lc — local. Maintenance is t_gl — global. Subtract one from the other and you do not get one answer, you get three:

  • Asia: about 15 hours of cushion after the last wish closes.
  • Europe: about 8 hours.
  • America: about 2 hours.

If you play on America and you were planning to spend your final wishes "the evening before the patch," the evening before the patch is the patch. Our 7.0 end-date deadline breakdown has the full per-server conversion for every remaining 7.0 timer, including the ones that already expired on Asia.

What goes live the moment maintenance ends?

Every notice below was published to the live feed alongside the maintenance preview, so this is the day-one state of 7.1, not a prediction.

  • Two character banners, both running until 2026/10/13 17:59 server time. The boosted 4-stars are identical on both: Diona (Cryo), Faruzan (Anemo) and Chongyun (Cryo). The full line-up and phase structure is in our 7.1 banners guide, and if you are choosing between the two 5-stars, we compared them in Vesna or Vodyanitsa.
  • Epitome Invocation with the 5-star sword Beyond the Chrysalis and the 5-star catalyst Hymn of the Maelstrom, plus New Bough, Winter's Heavy Heart, Breezeborne Refrain, Favonius Greatsword and Dragon's Bane at 4-star.
  • Rainbow's End: Resplendent Starlight. A Missive of Grace mail track that opens 2026/09/28 00:00 server time and runs to the end of Version 7.1, paying Primogems ×400 on each of four login days from 28 September to 1 October — 1,600 in total, at AR 2 or above. Those mails expire 30 days after they arrive. Alongside it, the Resplendent Starlight daily login run goes from 2026/10/01 04:00 to 2026/10/19 03:59 server time and pays Intertwined Fate ×10 across seven login days at AR 5 or above.
  • Tabletop Troupe: A Gathering on Adventure's Eve, which hands out a free event-exclusive 5-star character of your choice from Tartaglia, Nilou, Baizhu, Chiori, Clorinde and Varesa. The gate is AR 18 and completion of Chapter VII Act IV — the second half is the one that will send a lot of players back to the Archon Quest.
  • Moontrace, the 7.1 Battle Pass, AR 20 or above, ending 2026/11/02 03:59 server time with its purchase window closing an hour earlier at 02:59 — the same one-hour trap as last version.
  • Two World Quests, "Swords and Secrets" and "Upstream Variations," both permanently available after the update and both explicitly noted by HoYoverse as taking seven calendar days to finish.

The rest of the version calendar, with every start and end time, is in our 7.1 events calendar.

What should I do in the hours before the servers go down?

Ordered by how permanently you lose it.

  • Start the pre-install now, not tonight. 10 GB on PC is a long download on a mediocre connection, and on mobile you cannot play while it runs.
  • Spend your last 7.0 wishes — 2 hours of margin on America, 8 on Europe.
  • Finish anything tagged as a timed Archon Quest reward. These are hard-expiry Primogems.
  • Clear your in-game mailbox. Compensation mail lands within 5 hours of the servers returning, and a full mailbox is a genuinely common way to miss it.
  • Check your Adventure Rank if you are a new or returning account. AR 5 at 06:00 (UTC+8) on 23 September is the compensation line.

One more thing that is live-service-shaped rather than patch-shaped. Chapter VII Acts III and IV become permanently available after the update — but the notice adds a footnote that a lot of people are going to miss: "After completing Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act IV 'A Rekviem for the Underworld' within the specified time period, the Epilogue for this series will become available. The Epilogue is a time-limited quest." Its availability runs from the 7.1 update to 2026/11/03 14:59 server time. That footnote was the single most-discussed Genshin thread of the last day, and the reaction was mostly a variation on the same question — why does a story epilogue have an expiry date at all. It does, so put it on the list.

FAQ

What time does Genshin 7.1 maintenance start? 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8), which is 22:00 UTC on 22 September 2026. Because the notice tags that timestamp as global rather than local, it lands simultaneously everywhere: 23:00 on 22 September on the Europe server clock, 17:00 on 22 September on America, 6:00 PM Eastern, 3:00 PM Pacific, 11:00 PM in the UK and midnight in Central Europe.

How long will Genshin 7.1 maintenance last? HoYoverse estimates 5 hours, putting the servers back at roughly 03:00 UTC on 23 September — 11:00 on the Asia clock, 04:00 on Europe and 22:00 on 22 September for America. It is an estimate, and Version 7.0 used the same five-hour figure.

How much compensation do I get for 7.1 maintenance? Primogems ×300, calculated at 60 Primogems per hour of downtime. You need to be Adventure Rank 5 or above at 2026/09/23 06:00 (UTC+8) to qualify. It arrives by in-game mail within 5 hours of maintenance ending, and the mail expires after 30 days.

Is there a code for the maintenance compensation? No. The notice pays it directly into your in-game mailbox, so there is nothing to redeem. Version 7.0 did add a second, separate Issue Fix Compensation of Primogems ×300 in the update details notice afterwards, also by mail, with a claim deadline three days later — so keep an eye on the mailbox rather than a code list.

How big is the Genshin 7.1 update? Pre-installation is 10 GB on PC and 4 GB on mobile, based on a typical install with one voice-over pack. That is up from 8 GB and 3 GB in Version 7.0, a 25% increase on PC and 33% on mobile.

Can I play while pre-installing on my phone? No. HoYoverse states plainly that Travelers on mobile platforms cannot play the game while pre-installing game resources. On PC the launcher handles it separately, and a partially completed PC pre-install still speeds up the real update.

When do the 7.1 banners start? Immediately after maintenance ends, and they run until 2026/10/13 17:59 server time. Both character banners share the same boosted 4-stars: Diona, Faruzan and Chongyun.

What happens if maintenance runs longer than 5 hours? The compensation scales — the notice's own formula is 60 Primogems per hour the servers are down, so the ×300 figure is the five-hour estimate rather than a cap.
