The waiting is over. HoYoverse posted the Version 7.2 Update Maintenance Preview on Monday 2 November 2026 at 03:10 UTC, so the start time, downtime, compensation and download size on this page are now official, not projections.
Quick answer: Genshin Impact Version 7.2 "Hour of Ruin" releases on Wednesday 4 November 2026. Maintenance starts at 06:00 (UTC+8) on 4 November and is estimated to take 5 hours. That is 22:00 UTC on Tuesday 3 November: 22:00 in London, 23:00 in Berlin, 17:00 in New York and 14:00 in Los Angeles. Servers should return about 5 hours later. Compensation is 300 Primogems for Adventure Rank 5 and above. Pre-installation is open now: 8 GB on PC, 3 GB on mobile. The Skirk and Escoffier banners and both free 5-star invites close on 3 November at 14:59 server time.
When is the Genshin 7.2 release date?
Wednesday 4 November 2026 on the UTC+8 clock. In the Americas, and in London and Berlin, the update begins on the evening or afternoon of Tuesday 3 November. The Maintenance Preview states it in one line:

Version 7.1 "A Rekviem for the Underworld" went live on 23 September 2026, so 7.2 lands exactly 42 days later, the standard cycle. This page projected that date on 26 September, before HoYoverse had said anything.
What time does Genshin 7.2 maintenance start?
06:00 (UTC+8) on 4 November, estimated at 5 hours. It is one global instant, so every server goes down together. The return times below are that estimate, not a promise. HoYoverse can finish early or run long.

If you carry a time over from the 7.1 update, it may be wrong. Europe left summer time on 25 October and the US on 1 November, so the local start there is one hour earlier than a straight copy of the 7.1 slot. Sydney is one hour later, because daylight saving began there in October. The table already uses the new offsets.
The full patch notes come separately. The Preview says the Version Update Details notice will be posted at 07:00 (UTC+8) on 4 November, one hour into maintenance. That is 23:00 UTC on 3 November.
How do you pre-install Version 7.2, and how big is it?
Pre-installation opened with the Preview on 2 November, on mobile, PC, PlayStation and Xbox Series X and S. HoYoverse estimates 8 GB on PC and 3 GB on mobile, based on one voice-over pack. That is smaller than the last update.

Here is where to find it, from the official Summary of Update Methods:
- PC: a Pre-Install button sits to the left of Start Game in the launcher. Even an unfinished pre-install speeds up the launcher's update.
- Mobile: Paimon Menu, then Settings, Resources, Pre-Install Resource Package. Or tap the Pre-Install Resource Package icon at the bottom-left of the login screen.
- PlayStation: launch the game with enough free storage, and pre-installation starts automatically after a while.
- Xbox Series X and S: My games & apps, then Manage, then Updates. If the pre-download is missing, wait and check again, or restart the console.
One catch on mobile: you cannot play while pre-installing. HoYoverse advises finishing any Domains or other challenges first, and using Wi-Fi.
On update day, iOS players must tap Update in the App Store. Android players open the game and follow the prompts, or update through Google Play.
How many Primogems is the 7.2 maintenance compensation?
300 Primogems, at 60 per hour of the estimated 5-hour window. The conditions, from the Preview:
- Eligibility: Adventure Rank 5 or above by 06:00 (UTC+8) on 4 November.
- Delivery: in-game mail within 5 hours after maintenance finishes.
- Expiry: the mail lasts 30 days, and compensation "must be claimed before the end of Version 7.2."
An alt below AR5 misses out unless it reaches AR5 before 22:00 UTC on 3 November. Other compensation, such as for bug fixes, is left to the Update Details notice.
What ends before Version 7.2 starts?
Most 7.1 deadlines fall before maintenance, so do not plan around the 22:00 UTC shutdown. The dates below come from the in-game notices, in server time. Each server reads its own clock (UTC+8, UTC+1 and UTC-5), so the real moment differs by region:

That 14:59 line is 06:59 UTC on the Asia server, 13:59 UTC on Europe and 19:59 UTC on America. An Asia player loses the banners 15 hours before maintenance. An America player has just 2 hours of margin. The Moontrace Battle Pass and "Carefree Snowball Fight" closed on 2 November.
Two free 5-stars are closing at once, and they are different pools:
- Tabletop Troupe: Tartaglia, Nilou, Baizhu, Chiori, Clorinde or Varesa. It requires AR18 and Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act IV. Our free 5-star selector guide ranks them.
- Across the Frozen Wilds: one standard-banner 5-star, available once you have unlocked Wishes.
The 7.2 notice titled "Across the Frozen Wilds" is not a repeat for existing players. It is only for accounts registered after the 7.2 update, so if you have not claimed yours, this is your last window.

The 24 November line is new: Phase 1 now has a confirmed end, and HoYoverse's press release says Phase 2 brings back Zibai and Linnea. The Phase 2 opening time is not published, though Version 7.0's Phase II opened at 18:00 server time. The notice also says Valeriy joins the standard wish in the next Version, so this banner is not your only chance at him.
The Chronicled Wish is missing from these Phase I notices because HoYoverse's press release places it in Phase 2. Its date is still unpublished.
The Content Preview runs The Grand Defense to 16 December, 42 days after launch. That points at the next version's timing, but HoYoverse has not announced a Version 7.3 date.

Are the 7.2 livestream codes still active?
No. HoYoverse posted HourofRuin, ExpertMitya and PhotoTime after the 23 October Special Program, each worth 100 Primogems. They expired on 26 October at 12:00 (UTC+8), which is 04:00 UTC. What should you do before Version 7.2 goes live?
In order of what costs you most if missed:
- Claim both free 5-stars before 14:59 server time on 3 November. Unclaimed invites do not carry over.
- Finish Archon Quest Chapter VII: Act IV and the Epilogue by the same deadline. The limited-time rewards and the Epilogue both close then. Act IV also gates Tabletop Troupe and the 7.2 quest.
- Finish the Godforsaken Frostlands exploration missions by the same deadline for 400 Primogems.
- Decide on Skirk or Escoffier before their banners close. Our Skirk or Escoffier comparison is the quick version.
- Start the pre-install now, and free up 8 GB on PC or 3 GB on mobile. On mobile, finish any Domains first.
- Reach AR5 on any alt before 22:00 UTC on 3 November to qualify for the 300 Primogems.
- Bank your Fates if you want Mitya. His banner opens straight after maintenance, and pity carries. Furina players can start with our Furina build.
