Updated November 5, 2026. Applies to Valheim 1.0, patch 1.0.21. Drop chances, weights and crafting uses come from the community Valheim Wiki's trophy tables. Changes to drop logic and The Trophy Collector achievement are checked against Iron Gate's own patch notes.
Valheim has 69 trophies: one or more for every biome, from the Boar's 15% head to the Seal in the Deep North. Most players only care about three things: what each one drops at, which ones are worth farming for crafting, and why the last four for The Trophy Collector take weeks. Patches 1.0.20 and 1.0.21 changed two of those answers.
Quick answer: Valheim's trophies drop at 5%, 10%, 15%, 30%, 33%, 50% or 100%. Since patch 1.0.20, drops at 30% or lower use a pity counter: a 5% trophy is guaranteed within 40 eligible kills, a 10% trophy within 20. The counter no longer resets when you log out, and starred monsters now have a higher trophy chance. Since patch 1.0.21, The Trophy Collector also requires a Troll Trophy. The usual blockers are the night spawns (Wraith at 5%, Vile at 10%) and the Mistlands 5% trophies.
How many trophies are in Valheim, and what are they for?
The wiki's trophy list has 69 entries split across nine sections. Kall Fimbulbringer, the final boss, is not one of them: he drops Sacrificial Blood and the Crown Jewel, with no trophy.
| Biome | Trophies | Hardest one |
|---|---|---|
| Meadows | 4 | Neck (5%) |
| Black Forest | 10 | Greydwarf (5%) |
| Ocean | 1 | Serpent (33%, sinks) |
| Swamp | 10 | Wraith and Surtling (5%) |
| Mountain | 9 | Stone Golem (5%), Frost Blob (bomb-spawned) |
| Plains | 10 | Deathsquito and Fuling Berserker (5%) |
| Mistlands | 7 | Seeker Soldier, Seeker, Tick, Hare, Dvergr (all 5%) |
| Ashlands | 10 | Fallen Valkyrie, Morgen, three Charred (5%) |
| Deep North | 8 | All 10%, no 5% trophies |
Every trophy stacks to 20 and shares three general uses:
- Decoration: hang it on an Item Stand. The Surtling, Stone Golem and Brenna trophies give off light.
- Ballista targeting: feed one to a Ballista and it shoots only that enemy type. The trophy is not consumed. Draugr and Charred trophies target their whole family.
- Obliterator: older trophies turn into 1 Coal each. The wiki lists exceptions: Ashlands creatures, Hildir's minibosses, Bear, Vile and Ghost. Do not feed it anything you still need.
On top of that, some trophies are crafting ingredients, the Deer Trophy summons Eikthyr, and each boss trophy unlocks a Forsaken Power at the Sacrificial Stones.
What changed for trophies in patches 1.0.20 and 1.0.21?
Iron Gate's patch 1.0.20 notes open the drop changes with: "We've heard a lot of you pointing out that you haven't been getting as many trophies as you should from your kills, and this patch should finally fix that. We hope you're ready to craft those bear rugs!" Two lines follow:
- "Trophy drop chance is now increased by star level of monsters"
- "Pseudo-random drop logic will no longer be reset between player sessions to give a more fair distribution for rare drops"
The Valheim Wiki's Drops page describes the pseudo-random system that has run since the Deep North update. It applies to every drop at 30% or lower. After a drop, the game sets a counter so the next one lands within 1 to 2 ÷ chance attempts:
| Base chance | Maximum kills before it drops | Average |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | 40 | 1 in 20 |
| 10% | 20 | 1 in 10 |
| 15% (Boar) | 13 | about 1 in 7 |
| 30% (Gjall) | 6 to 7 | about 1 in 3 |
| 33% and above | No pity, normal roll | — |
Two details matter for groups. The counter is kept per item, shared by every creature that drops that item at the same chance. It also lives with the player whose game handles the creature's death, according to the wiki. In multiplayer, that is not necessarily whoever landed the last hit, so swapping hunters can split your progress between two counters.
Iron Gate did not publish the star multiplier. The wiki's general rule is that each star doubles a drop's chance; its Creature stars page excludes trophies only from the doubled drop amount. Once stars push a drop above 30%, it uses a normal roll instead of the pity counter. Treat the exact trophy boost as unconfirmed. In practice it only matters where stars exist. Vile, Wraith, Stone Golem, Fallen Valkyrie and Barka spawn with no stars, and so do open-world Morgen, so the 1.0.20 star change cannot speed up those hunts.
Patch 1.0.21 then added one line that matters for completionists: "Add Troll Trophy as requirement to The Trophy Collector achievement." If you were tracking the list before October 28, add the Troll.
Which Valheim trophies are the rarest?
The 5% trophies, icons from the Valheim Wiki. Pity cap: 40 kills each on patch 1.0.21.
Seventeen trophies sit at a 5% base chance. With the pity system, the drop rate is not the real problem. Kill count is. A 5% trophy from a creature you meet 20 times a night is easy. A 5% trophy from a creature that spawns once a night is a project.
| Trophy | Chance | Why it is slow |
|---|---|---|
| Wraith | 5% | Swamp, night only, usually max 2 at a time, despawns at dawn |
| Vile | 10% | Plains, night only, max 1 at a time |
| Seeker Soldier | 5% | Middle of the Mistlands, max 1 per spawn zone, also in Infested Mines |
| Morgen | 5% | Middle of the Ashlands ("Very Rare") or burrowed in some Ashlands ruins |
| Fallen Valkyrie | 5% | Ashlands, "Uncommon", one at a time |
| Stone Golem | 5% | Tall Mountain peaks (about 120 m up), one at a time |
| Fuling Berserker | 5% | Fuling Village and Stonehenge spawn points, plus raids |
| Frost Blob | 10% | Only spawns when you throw a Blob Bomb: Frost |
| Writhan | 10% | Rare, Swamp only, 2,000 to 8,000 m from world centre |
The Frost Blob catches people out. The wiki's spawn table lists one source: throwing a Blob Bomb: Frost, which is crafted with a Drake Trophy. If you have never found a Frost Blob in the wild, that is why. Craft the bomb, throw it, kill what comes out.
A Wraith in the Swamp. Older Valheim Wiki gameplay capture, used to show the creature, not a patch-1.0.21 interface.

Weights are in the game's units. A "—" in the Uses column means the trophy has no crafting or summoning use beyond the general ones above.

Serpent trophies sink. Kill serpents near shore, or drag one into the shallows with an Abyssal Harpoon first. A stack of 20 weighs 500, tied with Bonemaw for the heaviest single slot in the game. Kvastur lives in the Bog Witch's hut and respawns one minute after it dies, so its 100% trophy is easy to replace.

One 1.0.21 change lightens the Moose grind: Headdress of the Caller upgrades no longer need Moose Trophies. Per the wiki recipe, they now take Moose Sinew and Nornathread (1/2/4 and 2/4/8). The Dvergr trophy is the only one shared across creatures, so Ashlands Dvergr count toward it too.
How do you get The Trophy Collector achievement?
The achievement text is simply "Collect all trophies." Achievement tracking started with 1.0, so trophies you picked up in Early Access do not count until you pick them up again. Your inventory's Trophies tab is the checklist: each trophy appears there once you pick it up. Iron Gate has not documented whether the achievement checks pickups or what you hold at once. The safe play is to keep one of every trophy on an Item Stand at home until it unlocks.
A practical order:
- Clean up as you progress. Most 10% trophies fall naturally while you clear each biome. Do not Obliterate or sell your spares until the achievement pops.
- Use the pity counter. Hunt one creature type at a time with the same player handling kills, so the counter advances instead of being split.
- Do the bomb-spawned and miniboss trophies deliberately. Craft a Blob Bomb: Frost for the Frost Blob. Kill Kvastur at the Bog Witch hut. Hildir's minibosses (Brenna, Geirrhafa, Zil and Thungr) guard her quest dungeons, so treat those trophies as irreplaceable.
- Save the night hunts for last. Wraith and Vile need nights in the Swamp and Plains. Seeker Soldiers come from the middle of the Mistlands or Infested Mines.
Players in the r/valheim thread "4 trophies left for achievement" agree on the method for Viles. One player found "a stretch that had 3 vile spawns, built a TP shelter, and just repeated the run" twice a night until it dropped. Another put the pity system simply: a 5% Wraith trophy means "you need to kill anywhere between 1 and 40 before getting the trophy, but you will get it." Several players say Viles and Wraiths took a week or more of in-game nights. That fits the maximum-one and maximum-two spawn limits above.
For the boss side of the list, our Valheim boss order guide covers every summon. The Valheim achievements guide lists the other 52 achievements that overlap with a trophy hunt.
Which trophies should you farm first?
If you are not chasing the achievement, farm for what trophies unlock:
- Fishing baits: Troll, Abomination, Serpent, Drake, Fenring, Fuling, Lox and Charred Warrior trophies each make one biome's bait. Our Valheim fishing guide shows which fish each bait targets.
- Trinkets and utility: the Surtling (Nimble Anklet), Leech (Iron Brooch), Bear (Bronze Pendant), Lox (Bracelets of the Brave), Gjall (Pulsating Earrings) and Seeker (Resounding Shackle).
- Comfort and building: Bear for the Bearskin Rug, Moose for the Antler Throne, Wolf for the Rustic Drawbridge.
- Boss resummons: Deer for Eikthyr, Seeker Soldier for a second Queen fight.
The Deep North set is worth a pass too. Hexen trophies feed Northern Vengeance and the Witch Crown, and Moose trophies feed four recipes. Our Deep North enemies guide covers where those creatures spawn.
What do you do with boss trophies?
The seven Forsaken trophies, icons from the Valheim Wiki. Each one hangs at the Sacrificial Stones to unlock its Forsaken Power.
Each of the seven trophy-dropping Forsaken drops its trophy at 100%. Hang it on its stone at the Sacrificial Stones to unlock that boss's Forsaken Power for everyone who interacts with it. You only need one per boss. Extra copies from repeat kills are decoration or achievement insurance. The wiki also notes that Forsaken trophies have a 5% chance each minute to speak a line, so a trophy wall is never quite silent.

FAQ
What is the trophy drop rate in Valheim? It depends on the creature: 5%, 10%, 15%, 30%, 33%, 50% or 100%. Bosses and Hildir's minibosses always drop theirs. Deer, Troll and Abomination are 50%. Most regular enemies are 10% and the rarest are 5%.
Is there a pity system for trophies in Valheim? Yes. Drops at 30% or lower use a pseudo-random counter, so a 5% trophy drops within 40 eligible kills and a 10% trophy within 20. Since patch 1.0.20 the counter survives logging out, according to Iron Gate's patch notes.
Do starred monsters drop more trophies? Since 1.0.20, yes: Iron Gate says trophy chance now rises with star level. The exact multiplier is not published. Many slow-trophy creatures, including Vile, Wraith and Stone Golem, never spawn with stars.
Why can I not find a Frost Blob? According to the Valheim Wiki, Frost Blobs only spawn when you throw a Blob Bomb: Frost. You craft it with a Drake Trophy. Throw one and kill the blob for its 10% trophy.
Do old Early Access trophies count for The Trophy Collector? No. Achievement tracking began with 1.0, so pick each trophy up again on 1.0. Since patch 1.0.21 the Troll Trophy is on the requirement list as well.
Does Kall Fimbulbringer drop a trophy? No. The final boss is on the wiki's list of creatures without a trophy. He drops Sacrificial Blood and the Crown Jewel instead.
