Quick answer: Three days after launch, the WoW Forever Auction House is splitting in two. Starter mats are flat and dirt cheap: Linen Cloth sells for about 29 copper, Light Leather 37-38 copper, Peacebloom 28-32 copper. Mid-level mats are crashing: Mageweave Cloth is down 64% from its launch-week median to about 10-13 silver, Mithril Bar is down 59%, and Vision Dust is down 67%. Prices also depend on your ruleset. The same item costs about the same on Normal and PvP, but 1.63x more on RP and 1.88x more on RP-PvP, because those markets have fewer sellers. And every listing now costs at least 1 silver in deposit, which you lose if the item doesn't sell.

TL;DR
- Cheapest mats right now: Silverleaf 18-20c, Linen Cloth 29-30c, Light Leather 37-38c, Copper Bar 69-73c. Prices are per unit, US and EU medians.
- Biggest drops vs. the launch-week median: Vision Dust -67%, Mageweave Cloth -64%, Mithril Bar -59%, Iron Bar -58%, Goldthorn -57%, Kingsblood -54%.
- The only risers: Copper Ore +55%, Copper Bar +43%, Peacebloom +38%. They're still under 1 silver each.
- Ruleset matters: across 45 items, RP markets charge a median 1.63x the Normal price and RP-PvP 1.88x. PvP is the same as Normal (1.00x).
- Deposit rule: at least 1 silver per listing, even for an item worth a few copper. Wowhead reported it on Nov 5 and players first noticed it in the beta in mid-October. We found no Blizzard post explaining it.
- AH bugs: EU players reported "The item was not found" on single-item buyouts from Nov 6. On Nov 7, Americas maintenance was announced as addressing "intermittent Auction House disruptions". Live status is on our WoW Forever server status hub.
Where do these WoW Forever AH prices come from?
There is no official Auction House price API for WoW Forever yet, so every price site depends on players scanning the AH with an addon. We used AH Ledger, which aggregates those scans into separate markets by ruleset, faction and region. That makes 8 markets per region: Normal, PvP, RP and RP-PvP, each split into Alliance and Horde.
For each item we took the median price in each market, then the median of those markets for the US and for the EU. We compared that with AH Ledger's 7-day median. WoW Forever launched on Nov 4 and the beta had closed on Oct 21-22, so on Nov 7 that 7-day window effectively covers launch week only.
Two caveats. First, scan coverage is uneven: Normal and PvP markets each list 3,000-3,500 priced items, while the RP and RP-PvP markets list roughly 1,000-1,900. Second, two markets were behind on Nov 7: Alliance RP-PvP US was last scanned on Nov 6 at 02:43 UTC, and Horde RP US at 05:26 UTC on Nov 7. Treat thin-market prices as rough.

Runecloth has barely started to appear: only 2 markets per region have any, so we left it out. The Silk Reagent Bag had one US listing group and none in the EU.
Why did Mageweave, Mithril and Vision Dust crash?
Here's our read of the data. It's an explanation, not something Blizzard or AH Ledger has stated.
Look at where the drops sit. Linen, Light Leather, Silverleaf and Strange Dust are level 1-20 materials, and they barely moved (-6% to +0%). Mageweave, Mithril, Iron, Goldthorn, Kingsblood and Vision Dust are the level 30-45 tier, and they lost 50-67%. On launch day only the fastest levelers were in zones that drop these materials, so a handful of units sold at scarcity prices. By Nov 7 many more players had reached the 30s, and supply caught up.
The listing counts back this up. 9,355 units of Mageweave Cloth and 10,616 of Mithril Ore were on sale across the 16 markets, while the launch-week medians still reflect the days when almost none were listed. Expect the same thing next for level 50-60 cloth, ore and herbs, starting with Runecloth, as more players reach 50-60.
The three items that rose, Copper Ore (+55%), Copper Bar (+43%) and Peacebloom (+38%), all sit well under 1 silver per unit. Our guess is that the 1-silver deposit (below) makes it a bad bet to post a small stack of cheap mats, so fewer people list them and the price creeps up. These moves are only a few copper, so don't read too much into them.
Why are prices higher on RP and RP-PvP?
WoW Forever has no realms. You pick a ruleset and the game places you by language (our ruleset guide explains how). AH Ledger tracks each ruleset and faction as its own market. Across our 45 items:
- PvP: 1.00x the Normal price. Same supply, same price.
- RP: 1.63x the Normal price.
- RP-PvP: 1.88x the Normal price.
The gap is biggest on leather and ore. Heavy Leather costs about 3.5-4 silver on Normal and PvP, but 10-16 silver on RP. Iron Ore mostly goes for 4-6 silver on Normal and PvP, but 15 silver on Alliance RP US and 40 silver on Horde RP EU. Smaller rulesets have fewer gatherers, so their AH is thinner. If you roll RP and gather, that's your best opportunity. If you roll RP and buy mats for crafting, it's your biggest cost.
Blizzard has hinted this could change. In episode 6 of its pre-launch developer video series, a team member said that letting RP and RP-PvP "link up their auction houses or allow them to group" is "a lever that we can pull". Nothing has been announced.

How does the 1 silver Auction House deposit work in WoW Forever?
In WoW Forever, every Auction House listing costs a deposit of at least 1 silver. That holds even for items whose normal percentage-based deposit would only be a few copper. Wowhead reported it on Nov 5: "In WoW: Forever, listing an item on the Auction House always incurs a deposit of at least 1 silver." Beta players had already spotted it in mid-October, in an r/wowforever thread calling it an unannounced change in that patch. We found no Blizzard patch note or blue post about it as of Nov 7.
How it works in practice, based on player reports in an r/classicwow thread from Nov 6:
- Item sells: you get the deposit back with your sale.
- Auction expires or you cancel it: you lose the deposit.
- The scale: one player on r/classicwow compared a single Light Leather in Classic Era, where an unsold listing loses you up to 9 copper, with WoW Forever, where you lose 100 copper.
What to do about it:
- Post full stacks, not singles. Light Leather sells for 37-38c, so a single costs nearly 3x its value in deposit. A stack of 20 is worth about 7s 50c, and the deposit is then a small share.
- Vendor low-level greens that won't sell. Some players on r/classicwow say they now vendor them instead of risking the deposit.
- Price to sell, not to sit. Every relist costs another deposit, so undercutting a 13s Mageweave stack by 1 copper beats leaving it at 30s for 48 hours.
- Enchanting materials have a deposit too. One r/classicwow thread pointed out that dusts and essences now carry a deposit, even though they have no vendor value. Our enchanting vellums guide covers what else changed for enchanters.
Is the WoW Forever Auction House bugged?
Not for everyone, and not all the time. Here's what was reported in launch week:
- From 22:57 UTC on Nov 6: EU players reported "The item was not found" when buying single items such as gear (EU forum thread). Stacks of reagents and potions still went through. US players made the same report about 3 hours later (US forum thread). No staff reply had appeared as of 02:03 UTC on Nov 7.
- Nov 7, around 15:00 UTC: Americas servers went down for maintenance, the second morning in a row after a similar restart on Nov 6. At 15:21 UTC on Nov 7, a player quoted the login-screen alert (in a forum thread opened during the Nov 6 downtime) as saying the maintenance "will address intermittent Auction House disruptions". Players reported the world servers back by about 15:37-15:46 UTC (US forum thread). Blizzard has not confirmed whether the AH errors are fixed.
If the AH is acting up, check our WoW Forever server status hub before you relist anything. A failed buyout costs nothing, but cancelling and relisting costs a fresh deposit.
What does this mean for making gold in week 1?
Three practical takeaways from the numbers:
- Sell mid-level mats now, not next week. Mageweave, Mithril, Iron and Goldthorn already lost half their value in three days, and supply will keep growing as more players reach 30-45. Whatever you gather at 35-45, list it the same day.
- The money is in the scarce tier. Vision Dust still averages 14-24 silver and Goldthorn 22 silver, even after the crash. Runecloth has hardly any listings yet (2 markets per region). The first sellers of level 50-60 mats will see the same launch premium Mageweave had on Nov 4.
- Bags are still a gold sink, not a gold maker. A Mageweave Bag costs 2g 53s-2g 83s. In Classic Era the pattern takes 4 Bolts of Mageweave plus 2 Silken Thread. If Forever kept that recipe (we haven't confirmed it), the bolts alone cost about 1g 34s-1g 94s at today's 33-48 silver per bolt. Tailors with the pattern have margin. Buyers are paying a launch premium.

FAQ
How much is Mageweave Cloth on the WoW Forever AH? On Nov 7, 2026, the median was about 13 silver per cloth in the US and 10s 40c in the EU. That's down 64% from the launch-week median of about 32 silver.
What is the cheapest thing to buy on the WoW Forever Auction House? Level 1-20 mats. Silverleaf sells for 18-20 copper, Linen Cloth for about 29-30 copper, Light Leather for 37-38 copper and Peacebloom for 28-32 copper per unit (US and EU medians, Nov 7).
Why does it cost 1 silver to post an auction in WoW Forever? WoW Forever charges a minimum deposit of 1 silver per listing, even for very cheap items. Wowhead reported it on Nov 5, and beta players noticed it in mid-October. Blizzard hasn't explained it in a patch note or blue post. You get the deposit back if the item sells and lose it if the auction expires or you cancel.
Are Auction House prices different on each ruleset? Yes. Each ruleset and faction has its own market. Across 45 commodities on Nov 7, PvP prices matched Normal (1.00x), RP was 1.63x and RP-PvP was 1.88x. The smaller rulesets have fewer sellers.
Do Horde and Alliance share an Auction House in WoW Forever? The trackers don't treat them as one. AH Ledger reports separate Alliance and Horde markets for every ruleset, and their prices differ. Mageweave Cloth, for example, cost about 8 silver on Alliance PvP US and 18 silver on Horde PvP US on Nov 7.
Will WoW Forever AH prices keep dropping? For mid-level mats, probably yes in the short term, because supply grows as players level into the 30s and 40s. Level 50-60 mats like Runecloth are only starting to appear, so expect them to start high and then follow the same curve. That's a trend, not a forecast for any single item.
