Dota 2 Trove of Terror: Price, Tidehunter Arcana, Drow Ranger Arcana and Drop Rates

Valve has partly reversed the Trove of Terror's gifting block. A notification headed "Trove of Terror Gifting Update" shipped in the client build logged at 00:47 UTC on 10 October 2026, calling the block a mistake and re-enabling gifting for every set out of the treasure — once per set, within thirty days — plus free treasures as compensation. Still unchanged: the contents are neither tradable nor marketable, and Valve publishes no price.

Not a gameplay patch: the patch-notes feed still ends at 7.41f, so for 7.42 see our next Dota 2 patch tracker, the 7.41f item changes are still the live balance rules, and the post-TI15 calendar lists the events still running on 7.41f.

How much the Trove of Terror costs

No Valve page lists a price, and non-marketable means no Steam Market listing to check. Dot Esports and esport.vision independently put it at roughly $5 per chest — a working number, not confirmed; regional pricing will move it.

The total matters more: at $5 a chest the fifty-open ceiling lands near $250, and Dot Esports puts the chase at $210–250. Recycling trims it: six sets return one more treasure. Liquipedia records it as Mythical rarity, released 6 October 2026 Pacific (7 October UTC), store purchase only, `tradeable = no`, `marketable = no`. Valve never calls it Halloween, and Diretide is absent.

Valve's gifting U-turn, in its own words

The build added Valve's explanation to the game's text. "Functionality that was intended to prevent exploitation of gift exchanges was instead mistakenly applied to all items coming out of the Trove of Terror, preventing any gifting from taking place," it reads.

The fix is deliberately partial. "To support friend gifting while we continue to iterate on the anti-exploit code, we've re-enabled gifting for all Trove of Terror sets: Each set can be gifted to a friend once within thirty days." The clock starts at the update for sets you hold, at opening for new Troves. Valve also paid out: "we've granted everyone one new Trove of Terror per six recycling credits so far, rounded up."

Interface text landed too: the treasure now reads "The contents of this treasure are not marketable or tradeable. Items can be gifted within 30 days of opening," and items carry a "Giftable until" date. The player who filed the original ungiftable report closed it themselves at 08:01 UTC on 10 October, seven hours after the update, saying items are giftable until 9 November — a date Valve never published.

What the thirty-day window does not fix

One gift per set leaves duplicates as dead inventory; trading and Market sales are untouched. Valve's bug tracker has taken 36 reports with "Trove" in the title since 02:12 UTC on 7 October, 32 still open, the newest at 20:28 UTC on 10 October; at least sixteen concern gifting, trading, marketability or duplicates, and all four closures were by their authors, not Valve. Post-update filings ask Valve to enable trading outright; one title says the window "doesn't solve the duplicate item problem."

Maw of the Megalodon: the new Tidehunter Arcana

Tidehunter has gone Arcana-less since the tier opened in March 2013. Valve says Maw of the Megalodon ships with "a new model, a host of custom animations, effects, taunts, voice lines, and dragging a familiar-looking corpse" — Dot Esports reads it as Kunkka's remains — and two unlockable alternate styles, The Hammer of Maelrawn and Unfathomable Hunger. The 10 October build also fixed its voice lines failing to play in Chinese.

Drow Ranger Arcana: Dread Retribution returns, but not for prior owners

The second Arcana is a rerun of Dread Retribution, the level-333 Aghanim's Labyrinth Battle Pass reward from 14 December 2021, unavailable since. Sepulchral Stalker is the set, not the Arcana.

If you already own the Arcana you get the set alone, by design: the bundle's in-client description reads "Contains 'Dread Retribution' Drow Ranger Arcana set if you don't already own it." At least six open reports complain anyway, from 04:40 UTC on 7 October through three on 10 October between 20:28 and 23:24 UTC; one adds that the Arcana showed as giftable in the bundle preview, never appeared under "All Items" and could not be re-bundled — a separate display fault. No Valve reply on any of them.

Drop rates and what the 50-open guarantee promises

Fifteen new Immortal sets sit across three tiers — Legion Commander's Hell's Legion is the sole Very Rare — with the two Arcanas in their own Ultra Rare tier. That tier opens at 1 in 100,000, climbing to 1 in 1,486 by the sixth open, 1 in 105 by the twentieth, 1 in 17 by the forty-ninth and 1 in 1 on the fiftieth, resetting whenever that Ultra Rare item drops, not just on the fiftieth.

The ceiling guarantees an Ultra Rare item, and two sit in that tier — one player who opened fifty chests got a second Tidehunter Arcana, not the Drow Ranger bundle they lacked. Two rewards ignore probability — twelve opens grant the Tormentor appearance Obscene Eye Ball, forty grant R'shan the Eternal and the Baby R'shan courier — though twenty-plus open reports since 7 October say the forty-open Roshan reward never arrived.

FAQ

Can I gift Trove of Terror items now? Yes — each set once to a friend within thirty days, counted from the 10 October update for sets you own, from opening for new Troves. They stay untradable and unmarketable, so duplicates cannot be sold.

How much does the Trove of Terror cost? Valve publishes no price; two outlets report roughly $5 per chest, putting the fifty-open guarantee near $250.

I already own Dread Retribution — do I get a second Arcana? No. The bundle grants the Arcana only "if you don't already own it," so prior owners get the Sepulchral Stalker set alone.

Does fifty opens guarantee the Tidehunter Arcana? No. The fiftieth guarantees an Ultra Rare item and the tier holds two, so it can pay out the Drow Ranger bundle or a duplicate.
