EA SPORTS FC 27 is three days into early access, and the single best free card in Ultimate Team right now is not in a pack. It is sitting in the Gallery Token Store, and the only currency that buys it is Gallery Tokens.
Quick answer: Gallery Tokens are earned by grading Gallery Sets, and they are the only way to get a base Hall of FUT player. Buy cheap cards, add them to a Set, grade it, then sell the cards back — EA confirms an Item still counts after you sell it, so your real cost is only the 5% transfer tax. Filling every cheap small-club Set gets most players to roughly 500 Tokens for 50,000–65,000 coins — enough for any 400 or 500-Token card. The 750-Token cards, Pato and Hulk, are out of reach from cheap Sets alone this week.
Current FC 27 phase: early access, which began 17 September at 23:00 UTC on PC and 18 September at 00:00 regional time on other platforms, with worldwide launch on 24 September at 23:00 UTC (PC) and 25 September at 00:00 regional time (consoles). Season 1: Ones to Watch is the live campaign.

Key takeaways
- Gallery Tokens cannot be bought with real money and never appear in packs. Grading Sets is the only source.
- EA's Item Score curve is brutally top-heavy: an 85 gold is worth 2,100 score, an 84 is 830, and every silver from 74 down to 65 is a flat 35.
- A sold card still counts. EA: "If an eligible Player Item passes through your Club, it can still count toward your Gallery after you sell it."
- The same Player Item counts toward multiple Sets, so one well-chosen 85 can push several grades at once.
- Evolution upgrades do not carry into the Gallery — your Evo'd card is scored at its original rating.
- Hall of FUT items are untradeable and follow Hero chemistry rules, not ICON rules.
What are Gallery Tokens in FC 27, and what can you buy with them?
The FUT Gallery is FC 27's collection layer. You slot eligible Player Items into Sets — clubs, leagues, rarities, campaigns — and grade them. Unlike an SBC, nothing is consumed. EA's help documentation is explicit: "Unlike Squad Building Challenges (SBCs), completing a Gallery Set doesn't submit or remove the Player Items from your Club." If you need the underlying system first, start with our full FUT Gallery explainer, then come back here for the live economics.
Grading pays rewards, and on most Sets those include Gallery Tokens. EA describes the spend side as "rewards such as Kits, Badges, and base Hall of FUT Items," and adds that store contents "can change throughout the Season."
Hall of FUT is the new third tier sitting alongside ICONs and Heroes — players remembered for FUT moments rather than trophy cabinets. From the Launch Update Pitch Notes (14 September 2026):
"Base Hall of FUT Player Items will be available throughout EA SPORTS FC™ 27 through the Token Store, while special Campaign versions will begin appearing in Packs later in the year. Base Hall of FUT Items can also be used in Evolutions when they meet the relevant requirements."
That last sentence matters more than it looks. A base Hall of FUT card is a legitimate Evolution input, which makes the 400-Token tier considerably better value than its rating suggests.
EA's own store screenshot shows the structure: a Token Summary tab, a Champions Token tab and a Gallery Token tab, with player items priced individually and a visible "Store Expires in: 448 Days 15 Hours" timer. You are not on a weekly clock. There is no rush to spend, only a reason to start earning.
How do you earn Gallery Tokens fastest in FC 27?
The method every serious trader is running this week is buy-grade-sell, and it works because of one line in EA's Gallery FAQ:
"Player Items don't need to be in your Club to be available in the Gallery. If an eligible Player Item passes through your Club, it can still count toward your Gallery after you sell it."
So the loop is:
- Open a cheap Set — small-club Sets are 15 items, big-club Sets are 20, league Sets are 30 (item counts per FUT.GG's Gallery tool).
- Check the grade thresholds via Show Rewards. Only chase a grade that actually pays Tokens; on many Sets the lower grades pay nothing.
- Buy the cheapest cards that clear that score threshold.
- Grade the Set.
- Sell the cards straight back.
Your net loss is the 5% EA tax plus any price movement between buying and selling. One r/fut player put the mechanic better than any guide: it is not an SBC, it is a Panini sticker book that only checks whether you have ever owned the card.
Two notes the guides skip. Work one Set at a time — you only need enough liquid coins to fill 15 slots, not the whole grind at once. And buy and sell inside the same session: worldwide launch will dump millions of cards onto the market, and a crash between your buy and your sell turns a 5% cost into a 20% one. Our launch-week market timeline covers when that drop is expected to bite.
Which Player Items actually raise your Set grade?
This is where most players burn coins. The grade is set by Item Score, not by how many cards you stuff in, and EA published the exact values in the Launch Update.
EA's published curve:
| Rating | Item Score | Rating | Item Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 95 | 40,000 | 85 | 2,100 |
| 93 | 25,000 | 84 | 830 |
| 91 | 19,000 | 83 | 410 |
| 90 | 14,000 | 82 | 340 |
| 89 | 11,000 | 81 | 280 |
| 88 | 8,300 | 80 | 180 |
| 87 | 5,500 | 78 | 140 |
| 86 | 4,100 | 76 | 100 |
| — | — | Silver 74–65 | 35 |
| — | — | Bronze 64–45 | 20 |
Read the jumps, not the numbers. Going from 83 to 84 doubles the score for one rating point. Going from 84 to 85 more than doubles it again. Meanwhile every silver in the game — a 74 and a 65 alike — is worth a flat 35, and every bronze is worth 20.
The buying rule that falls out of this: never fill a gold-eligible slot with a silver, and compare score-per-coin around the 82–85 band rather than buying the cheapest card available. Special items score higher again, which is why a single TOTW or Ones to Watch card can carry a Set grade on its own — worth remembering while Ones to Watch is live.
Two EA rules multiply the value of a good buy. Grade rewards are cumulative — "If you jump straight to S, you'll get all the rewards from the lower grades" — and the same Player Item can count toward multiple Sets. One 85 from a mid-table club can move that club's Set, its league Set and a rarity Set before you sell it.
Which Gallery Sets are worth filling, and which are traps?
The two biggest trackers disagree here, and the disagreement is instructive. GameRant calls league Sets the most rewarding, because "every grade in these sets grants you some Gallery Tokens, and if you manage to hit the S rank, you will get 100 tokens." FUT.GG calls LALIGA EA SPORTS the worst value in the Gallery, noting each Token there costs hundreds of times what a Frosinone Token costs.
Both are right on different axes. League Sets pay the most Tokens in absolute terms, but they are 30 items deep at high required scores, making them the worst Tokens-per-coin in the game. If your constraint is coins — and in early access it is — you fill small-club Sets.
FUT.GG's six cheapest Sets as of 18 September were Frosinone, Costa Adeje Tenerife, Malaga CF, Birmingham City, Logroño United and the Starter Set. Destructoid's independent breakdown on 19 September lines up almost exactly:
- Four small clubs where S is realistically reachable — Birmingham City, Tenerife, Malaga, Frosinone — at 38 Tokens each (152)
- Roughly 13 clubs where A is reachable, at 13 Tokens each (169)
- Nine clubs at 8 Tokens (72) and 17 clubs at 5 Tokens (85)
That arithmetic lands at about 478 Tokens, and the Starter Set plus Squad Foundations carries you past 500. GameRant notes the Starter Set is only five players, needs 2,000 total score for S, and pays its 5 Tokens at S only. Your Foundations league choice is permanent — see our Squad Foundations league guide.
What to skip: the 20-card big-club Sets, Real Madrid included. FUT.GG reports they pay nothing below grade B, and nothing released this week gets them there. Leave them until TOTW, campaign and Hero items raise the ceiling.

How much does 500 Gallery Tokens really cost?
Two independent estimates, both published this week:
- FUT.GG (18 September): around 60,000 coins to reach 500 Tokens through the cheap Sets, most of which comes back on the sell.
- Destructoid (19 September): about 50,000 coins lost, at roughly 1,500 coins average per club Set.
Call it 50,000–65,000 coins of tax and spread for a guaranteed 84 or 85 — one of the best coin-to-card conversions in FC 27 right now, and entirely deterministic, with no pack luck involved.
The catch is the bank. You need liquid coins to cycle, and in early access most clubs are coin-poor. EA has helped a little: the Launch Update confirms match payouts are up sharply, stating that against "the roughly 500 to 600 FUT Coins typically earned from a match in EA SPORTS FC™ 26, Champions and Rivals will have the potential to reward several times more Coins." Our coins-per-hour breakdown ranks which mode pays best right now.

Which Hall of FUT player should you buy?
EA's reveal art shows 21 base Hall of FUT items, every one rated 84 or 85. The store prices them in tiers, with league away-kit picks at 100 Tokens. These are the ratings and face stats printed on EA's own reveal, at the prices visible in EA's store screenshot:
| Tokens | Player | Card | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400 | Guarín | 84 CM — 88 PHY / 85 SHO / 82 PAS / 75 DEF | Best coins-to-quality ratio in the store |
| 400 | Błaszczykowski | 85 RM — 93 PAC / 84 DRI / 78 PAS | The cheapest 85 on sale |
| 400 | Gervinho | 84 LW — 94 PAC / 86 DRI / 78 PAS | Fastest card at the 400 tier |
| 500 | David Luiz | 85 CB — 84 DEF / 83 PHY / 78 PAS | The only centre-back in the store |
| 500 | Valencia | 85 RM — 90 PAC / 87 PHY / 79 DEF | Best two-way wide option |
| 500 | Rémy | 84 ST — 91 PAC / 84 SHO | The striker at the mid tier |
FUT.GG rates Guarín the outright best value in the store, at roughly half the Token price of the top tier. If you run a back three or your defence is leaking, David Luiz is the only centre-back available at any price. GameRant reports every Hall of FUT item carries a single PlayStyle+.
Above that sit Pato (85 ST — 90 PAC / 86 DRI / 85 SHO) and Hulk (85 RW — 89 PAC / 87 PHY / 86 SHO), which FUT.GG prices at 750 Tokens each. Both together would cost 1,500 Tokens — more than the cheap Sets can currently pay out — so treat that tier as a single choice, not a shopping list.
One note for Ultimate Plus owners: the five players in your 1-of-5 pre-order pick — Akinfenwa, dos Santos, Rémy, Fellaini and Elia — are also sold in the store. Check which you already claimed before spending Tokens duplicating it. On Rémy specifically, r/fut opinion this week is lukewarm; several early-access players rated him around 6.5 out of 10 and pointed at David Luiz instead at the same price.
What do Gallery Levels pay on top of Tokens?
Tokens are only half the Gallery's output. Grading also raises your Gallery Level, which unlocks its own reward ladder.
EA's published ladder, using its own "Approx. Season Acquired" column:
| Gallery Level | Reward | Approx. season acquired |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | Holographic Squad Foundations Player | Season 1 |
| 10 | Holographic Base Hero Pick | Season 3 |
| 15 | Holographic Base ICON Pick | Season 4 |
| 20 | 88+ Holographic Base Hero Pick | Season 5 |
| 25 | 92+ Holographic Base Hero Pick | Season 6 |
A Holographic Base ICON Pick at Level 15 is a serious end-of-year target, and Holographic items are rarer versions of special items that also score more inside Sets — a compounding loop covered in our Holographic items guide. Every grade you lock in this week is progress toward it.
Five rules that stop you wasting Tokens
- Loan items do not count. EA: "Loan Items aren't eligible for the Gallery and don't count toward Gallery Sets."
- Evolutions do not raise your Gallery score. EA is blunt: "If you upgrade a Player Item through an Evolution, its Gallery entry is still based on the original version of the Item." Never buy a card to Evo it for Gallery purposes.
- Hall of FUT cards are untradeable. EA's store labels them ITEM(S) (Untradeable). You cannot flip them or undo the purchase.
- They use Hero chemistry, not ICON chemistry. EA states Hall of FUT items "follow the same Chemistry rules as Heroes" — and Hero league contribution drops from +2 to +1 this year. Detail in our chemistry changes guide.
- Regrade later, for free. Sets are not locked. As TOTW, campaign and Hero cards release, Sets that pay nothing today start paying, and graded Sets can be pushed higher. You receive the difference, not the Tokens twice.
FAQ
Can you buy Gallery Tokens with real money or get them from packs? No. Gallery Tokens come from grading Gallery Sets and from Gallery objectives only. They never appear in the store for FC Points and never drop from packs.
Do cards still count for the Gallery after I sell them? Yes, and this is EA's own wording: "If an eligible Player Item passes through your Club, it can still count toward your Gallery after you sell it." Loan items are the exception and never count.
How many Gallery Tokens can I realistically get in FC 27 early access? Community trackers put the ceiling from cheap Sets at roughly 500–520 Tokens as of 18–19 September, for around 50,000–65,000 coins in tax and spread. That covers any 400 or 500-Token card, but not Pato or Hulk at 750.
Is it worth spending 100 Tokens on the league kit packs? Almost never. GameRant's verdict on the 100-Token kit picks is that they "aren't even worth spending them on" — 100 Tokens is a quarter of the way to a playable 84. Buy kits only once your player pick is banked.
Should I wait until worldwide launch to run the Gallery grind? There is a real trade-off. Card prices are expected to fall once the full player base arrives on 24/25 September, which makes buying cheaper — but you sell into the same crash, so the spread can widen. The lower-risk play is to grade the cheap Sets now, in single sessions, and keep the big-club and league Sets for later in the season when stronger cards make their higher grades reachable.
Does a Hall of FUT card work in Evolutions? Yes. EA confirms base Hall of FUT items "can also be used in Evolutions when they meet the relevant requirements," which is a strong argument for taking a cheaper 400-Token card with upgrade headroom over a maxed 750.
