EA SPORTS FC 27 is still in its pre-launch window. Early access opens on 18 September 2026, the PC version unlocks on 24 September 2026 at 23:00 UTC, and global release is 25 September 2026. The ICON roster, though, is already locked in — and most of the lists circulating right now only show half of it.
Here is the part almost nobody gets right: EA's official FC 27 ICONs Hub displays 10 players. That is the Class of '27 — the new inductees. But the ICON pool you can actually pull at launch is 18 cards, because EA folded eight returning ICONs into the same pre-order pool. If you're planning a squad around a free ICON, you need the full 18, their ratings, and the upgrade timeline. All of it is below, sourced from EA's own hub, press release and game disclaimers.

Who are the Class of '27 ICONs in FC 27?
EA revealed the Class of '27 on 24 August 2026. Ten players were inducted, and the split is the most women-heavy ICON class the series has produced. The four men's inductees are Sergio Agüero, Raphaël Varane, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Pepe. The six women's inductees are Christine Sinclair, Ellen White, Formiga, Hege Riise, Tobin Heath and Yuki Nagasato.
One detail worth flagging: in EA's press release, all six women's ICONs are marked "EA SPORTS FC 27 only" — they are not part of the men's ICON lineup heading to EA SPORTS FC Mobile. If you play both, do not assume your Mobile club will mirror your FUT club.
EA leaned hard on the legacy angle in the announcement. Pepe's quote from the press release sets the tone:
"To be named an EA SPORTS FC ICON means a great deal to me. I always played with intensity, passion, and complete commitment."
Christine Sinclair's is the one that got the most traction in Canada:
"To be the first Canadian named an EA SPORTS FC ICON is an incredible honour."
What is the full 18-card FC 27 Debut ICON pool?
This is the list that matters for Ultimate Team. EA's own pre-order promotional asset spells out all eighteen Debut ICONs with ratings and positions — the ten Class of '27 inductees plus eight returning ICONs.

Two names in that list are a genuine category change. Lúcio and Yaya Touré were EA SPORTS FC Heroes in previous titles. In FC 27 they move into the ICON category, which means they gain full ICON chemistry behaviour rather than Hero league-linked chemistry. That is a meaningful squad-building difference, not a cosmetic reclassification.
The ratings themselves are not a mistake and not a leak — they are on EA's promo art. Independent outlets covering the 24 August reveal reported the same thing, noting that all 18 sit at 85 or 86 OVR with Gullit and Zidane heading the group. The distribution is ten 86-rated cards and eight 85-rated cards.
Why are FC 27 ICONs only rated 85 and 86?
Because they are not finished cards. EA's game disclaimers page states plainly that the "FC 27 International ICON Player Item will be available from September 18, 2026 and will be upgraded to 'Champion' version by November 30, 2026."
In other words, the Debut ICON is a placeholder with an automatic upgrade attached. You receive an 85 or 86 in September, play with it through the opening two months of the cycle, and by the end of November the item converts to its stronger Champion version without you doing anything. Community trackers following the reveal have reported Champion versions landing in the high-80s and low-90s for the headline names, though EA itself has not published a per-player Champion rating, so treat any specific number you see as an estimate until it drops in-game.
The practical read: an 85 CB does not win you games in November, but it is free, permanent and upgrading. Treat it as a long-term slot-filler, not a launch-week starter.
How do you get a free FC 27 Debut ICON now?
This is where a lot of people are about to be disappointed, so read the dates carefully.
1. Ultimate Edition — window closed. EA's buy page is explicit: "Pre-order the Ultimate Edition by 31 August to get an untradeable International ICON Player Item rated 85+ as soon as you start playing the game." That deadline has passed. Buying the Ultimate Edition today still gets you early access from 18 September, the extra Evolution slot, Season 1 Premium Pass and 6,000 FC Points — but not the 85+ International ICON.
2. Ultimate Plus Edition — still includes it. The 85+ OVR International ICON Player Item is listed as standard Ultimate Plus content rather than an early-bird bonus. If the free ICON is the reason you're buying, this is the edition that still delivers it.
3. EA Play Pro Edition — still includes it. EA's disclaimers list the 85+ OVR International ICON in the EA Play Pro Edition's FC 27 content. The catch is platform: EA Play Pro is PC-only through the EA app.
Whichever route you take, the item is random. EA's disclaimer is blunt about it: "The probability of obtaining each ICON in the pool of 18 varies." You do not choose your ICON, you are not guaranteed an 86, and there is no published drop rate per player. Delivery starts 18 September 2026, in line with early access.
Pre-ordered the Standard Edition? Your ICON is in FC 26, not FC 27
This is the single most common misunderstanding right now, and it costs people a lot of confused day-one searching.
The Standard Edition pre-order bonus is a 92+ OVR ICON Player Item for EA SPORTS FC 26 — a different game, sold separately. The Ultimate and Ultimate Plus early-bird bundle likewise included a 1 of 4 93+ OVR ICON Player Pick for FC 26, not FC 27. Those are FC 26 club items and they do not migrate. If you log into FC 27 on 18 September expecting a 92-rated ICON because you pre-ordered, it will not be there.
Separately, all pre-order tiers include "3 ICONs/Heroes" for Career Mode. Those are squad-building loan-style additions in Career, not Ultimate Team items. Three different ICON bonuses, three different places — that is why the confusion is so widespread. What if you didn't pre-order at all?
Then you get ICONs the way the overwhelming majority of the player base always has: packs, SBCs and the transfer market.
ICONs enter FC 27 through pack pulls, through ICON Squad Building Challenges as the cycle progresses, and through the market once the transfer market unlocks. Base ICON SBCs historically land in the first weeks and get cheaper over time; the launch-week versions are always the most expensive they will ever be, because supply is at its minimum while demand peaks.

Someone asked whether ICONs would be available from the start in FC 27 or whether they'd have to grind the way they did in FC 26. Which Debut ICON do you actually want?
You can't choose, but you can know whether to celebrate. Ranked on launch-week usefulness in a meta-agnostic starter squad:
- Ruud Gullit (86 CAM) — the best combination of rating, position and upgrade ceiling in the pool. FUT.GG's reveal coverage flagged him as carrying a Rapid+ PlayStyle with a November Champion upgrade, which is the profile you want at CAM.
- Zinedine Zidane (86 CAM) — same tier, same slot. Historically one of the strongest ICON items in the series, and an 86 base is a low floor for that ceiling.
- Sergio Agüero (86 ST) — an 86-rated ICON striker in a launch economy where good finishers are the most expensive commodity on the market.
- Raphaël Varane (86 CB) — the standout defensive pull, and a free 86 ICON centre-back solves a real launch-week problem.
- Bastian Schweinsteiger and Yaya Touré (86 CM) — box-to-box eights that fit almost any formation, which matters when you can't build around a card you didn't choose.
- Everything at 85 — Pirlo, Pepe, Lúcio, Formiga, Riise, Zambrotta, Nagasato and Torres. All usable, none a squad centrepiece at 85, all stronger after the November upgrade.
The honest framing: the gap between the best and worst pull is smaller than people think, because every one of these cards is an intentionally deflated version of itself. The November upgrade is the actual prize.
The FC 27 ICON dates that matter
- 24 August 2026 — Class of '27 revealed, 18-card Debut ICON pool confirmed.
- 31 August 2026 — Ultimate Edition early-bird deadline for the free 85+ International ICON. Closed.
- 16 September 2026 — Web App expected to open. EA has not formally confirmed this date, so treat it as an expectation, not a guarantee.

Do Lúcio and Yaya Touré lose their Hero cards? They move from the Hero category into the ICON category for FC 27, which changes how their chemistry links work. EA has not announced separate Hero versions of either player for this title.
