FC 27 Sell or Hold? The Early Access Market Timeline and When Prices Crash

Quick answer: FC 27 is in day two of early access (18–24 September 2026), the thinnest-supply window of the entire year. Sell anything tradeable that is not in your starting XI — spare golds, duplicate specials, surplus contracts and managers — because the biggest single supply shock lands on 25 September, when the full player base arrives with the Destined for Glory campaign. Hold Ones to Watch items (they gain +1 OVR on real-world results) and hold your FC Points. Then brace for a second, slower slide across 2, 9, 16 and 23 October, when EA delivers the FC 26 carryover rewards — up to 70,000 coins and 27 guaranteed items rated 81+ for a club that completed everything, though nearly all of those items arrive untradeable.

Every FC cycle produces the same argument on day two, and r/fut is having it again this morning: one player says "his price will never be higher, sell", the next says "his price will go up, keep". Both are describing real forces. The difference is timing — and this year EA has published enough of the launch calendar that you do not have to guess.

This guide maps the FC 27 supply calendar from the 18 September early-access opening to the last carryover delivery on 23 October, explains which of those dates actually move the market, and gives you a sell/hold rule you can apply to any item in your club. We deliberately do not quote live player prices — they change hourly and are stale before you finish reading. What follows is the mechanics, the confirmed dates, and EA's own published coin constants.

What phase is FC 27 in right now?

As of 19 September 2026, FC 27 is in early access day two. The exact unlock moments, from EA's Launch Rewards Pitch Notes, are worth being precise about because the whole market cycle hangs off them:

"starting 18 September at 00:00 regional time on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo, and 17 September at 23:00 UTC on PC"

EA SPORTS FC 27 Launch Rewards, 17 September 2026

So the population playing right now is limited to three groups: Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition buyers, EA Play Pro members (full game from 17 September, 23:00 UTC), and EA Play members burning a 10-hour trial that opened 18 September at 04:00 UTC. The Web App has been live since 16 September at 17:00 UTC and the Companion App refresh since 17 September at 17:00 UTC, both confirmed in EA's FUT Launch Update Pitch Notes.

Global release is 25 September 2026. On PC the unlock is 24 September at 23:00 UTC, which is 25 September almost everywhere else — never read that as a 24 September release date.

That six-day gap between 18 and 25 September is the entire opportunity.

Why are FC 27 early access prices so high?

Because supply is a fraction of what it will be next week, and demand is concentrated in players who bought the most expensive editions.

Three things are true at once during early access:

  • Pack supply is tiny. Only pre-order and early-access packs exist. There is no full launch-week pack flood, no Division Rivals weekly payout cycle at full scale, and no mass SBC dumping.
  • Coin supply is unusually large per player. FC 27 pays out far more per match than its predecessor. EA's Launch Update puts the FC 26 baseline at roughly 500–600 FUT Coins per match and says Champions and Rivals now have "the potential to reward several times more", with Squad Battles also increased — alongside 15–100 Season Points per eligible match, capped at 850 Season Points per day.
  • Everyone wants the same 20 cards. A small population chasing a small pool of usable golds is the textbook definition of an inflated market.

Add the fact that Division 1 upgraded Rivals rewards are worth 95,000 coins plus four 84+ packs, five 83+ packs and a TOTW Player Pack — all tradeable at launch, and you can see the supply that is queued up behind the current prices.

When do FC 27 prices crash? The confirmed supply calendar

These are EA-published dates, not predictions. What is predicted is the direction of the price move, which is our read, clearly labelled as such.

The single date that matters most is 25 September. That is when the other ~90% of the player base logs in, opens its launch packs and starts listing. Every FC title has followed the same shape here: the early-access week is the local maximum, and the week after launch is where the floor gets tested.

The second, less discussed one is the October carryover wave. Per EA's Launch Rewards article, delivery begins in October across four dates — 2, 9, 16 and 23 October 2026 — a club that completed everything in FC 26 is owed 70,000 coins, 27 guaranteed items rated 81+ or better, three player picks (two of them tradeable) and a Heroes loan pick. That consolidated table is newer than most carryover guides on the internet — it adds a 2 October wave (FC 26 Season 9 and The World's Game packages) that earlier Pitch Notes did not date.

Read the tradeability carefully, because this is where most "the market will crash in October" takes go wrong. EA's own reward table marks almost every one of those packs Untradeable — the 82+ x5, the 82+ x7, all four 81+ x3 packs — so they never become listings. Only the 83+ and 82+ player picks are tradeable. What the wave actually does is push coins into the economy directly and hand millions of clubs free 81–84 SBC fodder, which removes those same clubs from the buying side of the fodder market. The effect on the 81–84 bracket is real, but it is demand drying up, not supply flooding in — a slower, flatter version of the 25 September shock. We covered the full package in the FC 27 carryover rewards guide.

What should you sell during FC 27 early access?

The rule: sell anything whose value comes from scarcity rather than from playing it.

FC 27 Ultimate Team Transfer List screen showing sold and listed player items during early access

The FC 27 Transfer List during early access. Items you are not starting are coin piles, and this is the week they are worth the most.

  • Spare golds you are not starting. A gold you are not putting in the XI is a coin pile pretending to be a footballer. Right now it is worth the most it will be worth all year.
  • Duplicate special items. The second copy has no squad value and a shrinking market value.
  • Manager, contract and consumable stock. These spike hardest in early access because new clubs need them immediately and nobody has spares yet. r/fut spent last night hunting Bundesliga manager contracts that simply were not listed. That is textbook early-access scarcity, and it does not survive launch week.
  • Anything you bought purely to flip. Your exit window is 18–24 September, not 26 September.

One honest caveat: the transfer market is gated for new clubs. EA runs two independent access gates — the in-game Graduated Access objective route, and a separate activity-based gate on the Web and Companion Apps. EA is explicit that clearing one does not clear the other:

"Completing Graduated Access doesn't automatically unlock access on the Web and Companion apps."

EA Help: Transfer Market on Web and Companion Apps

If you are still locked out, the FC 27 transfer market unlock guide walks the exact route, including EA's definition of an "active day" — three full Ultimate Team matches plus an app login inside the same UTC day.

What should you hold through launch day?

Four categories survive the crash, and one of them actively appreciates.

1. Ones to Watch items. OTW is one of only two FC 27 card classes with a published live-upgrade mechanic tied to real-world football — Destined for Glory items also upgrade on domestic-league performance from 18 September, per EA's Launch Update — and it is the one you can already hold during early access. EA's Season 1 article is unambiguous:

"They are eligible for a one-time upgrade if their team wins 3 out of their next 6 domestic league games starting from 18th September. The OTW players do not have to feature in the games for them to count towards the upgrade."

EA SPORTS FC 27 Season 1: Ones to Watch

On top of Wins to Watch, OTW items take +1 OVR for each Team of the Week, Star Performer or Player of the Month inclusion, and any OTW rated below 83 is boosted to 83 with a guaranteed 60 Pace minimum and Role++ in position. Which clubs are actually on track for the three-from-six upgrade is tracked in our FC 27 Wins to Watch club tracker.

2. Your FC Points. The community read on this is correct and worth repeating: launch-week packs are better than the early-access store packs. Ultimate Edition delivers 6,000 FC Points in three increments and Ultimate Plus 10,000 in five, with the first grant on your first login after early access begins and subsequent drops on the 15th of each month. There is no clock forcing you to spend today.

3. Cards you are actually playing. Selling your starting right-back to buy him back 48 hours later costs you the 5% tax twice plus the spread. If he is in the XI, he stays.

4. High-rated ICON and special items you intend to keep all year. FC 27 base ICONs start at 88 OVR, and Debut International ICONs upgrade into Champion versions during Black Friday, per EA's Season 1 article. Selling into the launch-week floor and re-buying after a Black Friday upgrade is the worst possible sequencing.

How much do you actually keep when you sell?

Two numbers govern every sale, and only one of them is published by EA.

The 5% sale fee. EA has not published an FC 27 transfer-market fee article; the flat 5% deduction on every completed sale has been constant across FC titles and is documented by community trackers such as FIFPlay. Treat it as expected to carry over, not as FC 27 policy. Practically: list at 10,000 and you bank 9,500.

The quick-sell floor. These are EA constants, published in the Rarity and Pack Changes table of the Launch Update, and they give you a hard "never sell below this" line:

ItemRating bandQuick sell value
Gold player75–91 OVR533–646 coins
Silver player65–74 OVR228–259 coins
Bronze player≤64 OVR28–48 coins
Gold non-player150 coins
Silver non-player100 coins
Bronze non-player30 coins

Because these are fixed EA values rather than market prices, they are the only safe arithmetic in a launch week. If a gold is listing near its discard value, the market has already told you it is worthless — take the guaranteed coins and move on. One early-access approach doing the rounds on r/fut is ripping cheap gold packs purely for the quick-sell float, banking roughly 3,500 coins a pack to build a bankroll; it is low-margin, but it is genuinely risk-free arithmetic.

For where the coins themselves come from fastest, we benchmarked every mode in the FC 27 coins per hour breakdown.

The FC 27 sell/hold decision table

Spare gold, not in XI🟢 Sell now🔴 Value already gone
Duplicate special item🟢 Sell now🔴 Sell only if desperate
Contracts / managers / consumables🟢 Sell now🟡 Restock cheap
Ones to Watch item🔴 Hold🟢 Hold for upgrades
ICON / 88+ special🔴 Hold🔴 Hold to Black Friday
Starting XI player🔴 Hold🔴 Hold
FC Points🔴 Hold🟢 Spend on launch packs
Coins🔴 Hold🟢 Buy the dip

The pattern is simple: early access is for selling, launch week is for buying. Coins are the one asset that gains purchasing power across the 25 September line, which is exactly why holding a coin balance into launch day is the single highest-value position in the calendar.

Short on coins with six days to go? Early access rewards the club that can actually act on the dip on 25 September — and grinding a bankroll from Squad Battles alone is slow.

A word of honesty here, because the alternative is a lie that gets accounts banned: EA's User Agreement prohibits buying, selling or transferring coins for real money, and enforcement ranges from coin removal to a transfer-market ban. No provider can promise zero risk. What can be done is paced Comfort Trade delivery with no bots, cheats or injectors — and you should weigh that residual risk yourself before deciding.

What happens after 22 October?

Season 1 closes on 22 October 2026 and Season 2 runs 22 October – 3 December. The Season 1 Ones to Watch upgrade cycle closes with it, which historically removes the main reason to hold OTW items and produces one more listing wave from players cashing out.

If you want to be positioned for that, the FC 27 Season Pass ladder breakdown maps all 30 levels on both the Standard and Premium tracks, including which levels hand you OTW items you will need to decide about.

FAQ

When exactly does the FC 27 market crash? The largest drop is triggered by the 25 September global launch, when the full player base joins and the Destined for Glory campaign starts. A second, slower decline runs across the four FC 26 carryover delivery dates — 2, 9, 16 and 23 October 2026 — which hits the 81–84 rated bracket, mostly by handing returning clubs free untradeable fodder and taking them out of the buying side rather than by adding listings.

Should I sell my Ones to Watch cards before launch? Generally no. OTW items gain +1 OVR for each Team of the Week, Star Performer or Player of the Month inclusion, plus a one-time +1 if their club wins three of its next six domestic league matches from 18 September. That published upgrade path pushes value up against the launch-week downtrend — Destined for Glory items get a comparable real-world mechanic from 25 September, but OTW is the class you can already be holding today.

Is the transfer market open during FC 27 early access? Yes, but new clubs face two separate gates — the in-game Graduated Access objective route and an activity-based gate on the Web and Companion Apps. EA states clearly that completing one does not unlock the other, so plan for a delay of at least a couple of active days if this is a fresh account.

How much does EA take when I sell a card in FC 27? A flat 5% of the sale price, deducted automatically. EA has not published an FC 27 fee article, so treat the figure as the long-standing FC rule expected to carry over — it is documented by community trackers rather than by EA for this title.

Should I spend my FC Points now or wait for launch? Wait. Store packs available during early access are generally weaker than launch-week content, there is no deadline forcing a purchase, and Ultimate and Ultimate Plus owners receive further FC Point drops on the 15th of each month. The only reason to spend early is if you specifically want a Premium Pass for Season 1.

Will prices recover after the launch-week crash? Individual cards do, especially ones attached to real-world form or a future upgrade path. The overall gold market does not return to early-access levels — that price level exists only because supply was artificially thin for six days.

Dates, reward values, tradeability and quick-sell constants in this guide are taken from EA's FC 27 Launch Rewards (17 September 2026), FUT Launch Update (14 September 2026), Season 1: Ones to Watch (16 September 2026) and Ratings Deep Dive articles.
