Quick answer: The best Once Human scenario depends on how you play. For a brand-new player, it is Manibus (Novice), which is the studio's own recommendation. For a solo player who already knows the game, it is standard Manibus (or its permanent server) because the story, building and Tech progression all work alone. For a harder solo survival run, pick The Way of Winter. For a squad that wants to fight, pick Endless Dream, where the whole server races to kill Eternal Dreamers. For the newest content, pick Isles of Abyss, but know that its second phase leans on group play and its first servers are about to roll into a permanent server (expected November 18, 2026 PT). This guide was checked against the official Once Human news posts on November 8, 2026 (current build: Version 3.1.2, released November 4 PT).
Key takeaways
- Seven scenarios are live: Manibus (with a Novice version), The Way of Winter, Endless Dream, Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve and Isles of Abyss are PvE. Evolution's Call and Prismverse's Clash are PvP. RaidZone is a separate PvP mode, not a scenario.
- Every PvE seasonal server ends in a 14-day rest period, then merges into that scenario's permanent server automatically.
- PvP scenarios have no permanent server anymore. The studio closed them on January 7, 2026 (PT) because they usually had fewer than 50 active players.
- Isles of Abyss is the only scenario where you start at max level. The Cradle is not available there.
- Moving to a new scenario resets your level and sends your gear to Eternaland. You buy it back in with points, so choose before you hoard.
- Season 5, Dissonant Resonance, arrives with the November 18 PT update and adds content to Visional Worlds, not a new scenario.
Which Once Human scenarios can you play in November 2026?
A scenario is a ruleset with its own map, story and phase calendar. You sign up for a server running that scenario, and the server works through numbered phases before it ends. The official Console Launch FAQ puts it this way:
"A scenario is a themed gameplay on a server, and each server belongs to a specific scenario. Different scenarios feature different maps, rules, stories, environmental mechanics, and PvE/PvP experiences, and have scenario stages/phases of varying durations (from a few days to dozens of days)." (Once Human Console Launch FAQ, Q24)
Here is the current lineup at a glance.
| Scenario | Type | Pace and feel | Best for | Permanent server |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manibus (Novice) | PvE | Gentle, guided | First-time players | Yes |
| Manibus | PvE | The standard Nalcott experience | Solo players, builders | Yes |
| The Way of Winter | PvE | Temperature survival in the frozen north | Players who want a harder survival run | Yes |
| Endless Dream | PvE | Fast, combat-first, full map from Phase I | Squads who like hard fights | Yes |
| Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve | PvE | Built around catching and battling Deviations | Deviation collectors | Yes |
| Isles of Abyss | PvE | Ships, diving, Tech progression, starts at max level | Players who want the newest content | Opens Nov 18 (PT, expected) |
| Evolution's Call | PvP | Warband fights over resources | Organised PvP groups | No (closed Jan 7, 2026) |
| Prismverse's Clash | PvP | Two factions, Prism Deviations | Faction PvP fans | No (closed Jan 7, 2026) |

What is the best Once Human scenario for new players?
Manibus (Novice). This is not a community opinion. The studio says it directly in the same FAQ:
"We recommend that beginner players play the Manibus (Novice) scenario to familiarize themselves with the game mechanics and rules, and gradually appreciate the diverse and unique scenario features of Once Human." (Console Launch FAQ, Q24)
Novice teaches the main story, base building, Deviations and the Tech tree without stacking a survival gimmick or PvP on top. The catch is population. Novice servers empty out as players graduate. On November 7, 2026, one player on r/OnceHumanOfficial reported a Novice server that felt dead a day after joining. If that happens to you, you do not have to start over: see how to join a permanent server after Novice.
One more console note. Servers with a 【Console】 tag are console-only. If your group mixes PS5 or Xbox with PC or mobile players, all of you need an untagged cross-platform server in the same region.
What is the best Once Human scenario for solo players?
Standard Manibus first, The Way of Winter second. Two solo players asked exactly this on r/OnceHumanOfficial between November 7 and 8, 2026. In one thread, a returning player said the Isles of Abyss Phase II calamity zones were "too difficult/time consuming" to do alone. In the other, a mostly solo player whose Isles server is ending was weighing The Way of Winter against Endless Dream.
Here is how each option holds up when you play alone:
- Manibus. The safest solo pick. The story, building, farming and Tech progression all work without a team, the map is the most familiar, and its permanent server gives you a home that never wipes. The exception is Prime War, the server-wide fight against Manibus itself, which the scenario description frames as gathering allies. Solo players can still progress around it.
- The Way of Winter. The best solo challenge. Temperature becomes a resource problem you solve with your base and gear, which rewards planning more than group size. Its permanent servers began merging during the September 16, 2026 maintenance, so the long-term population is more concentrated than it was.
- Endless Dream. Playable solo, but designed around the server pushing together (more on that below). Solo players can do their share of Dream Zones, yet the Eternal Dreamer fights are tuned for groups.
- Isles of Abyss. Phase I is fine alone. The tower ladder starts with solo story challenges. Phase II is where solo players stall, because the server's progress depends on clearing Calamity Zones and the final boss is a co-op raid.
- Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve. A good solo pick only if catching and battling Deviations is the part of Once Human you enjoy most.
Way of Winter vs Endless Dream: which is better?
They are built for different players, so the answer is about your group size and appetite for pressure.
Endless Dream opens the whole of Nalcott on day one. The Version 2.0 notes describe it plainly: "All existing regions are accessible in Phase I." Nested Dream Zones spread across the wilderness, each with its own combat effects, and you can build inside them without a Territory Terminal. The defining rule is that the server controls the clock: "As Meta-Humans eliminate Eternal Dreamers, they will reduce the durations of Phases I to V, intensifying the scenario's pace and difficulty" (Version 2.0 Update Announcement). Phase I runs 3 days and can end after 2 if the server kills enough Eternal Dreamers. An active server moves fast, and a solo player can feel dragged along.
The Way of Winter is slower and more self-contained. The challenge is the environment, not the server's kill count, so you set your own pace.
| The Way of Winter | Endless Dream | |
|---|---|---|
| Map at start | Frozen northern map | Full Nalcott map in Phase I |
| Main pressure | Temperature survival | Dream Zones and Eternal Dreamers |
| Who sets the pace | The phase calendar | The whole server (kills shorten phases) |
| Solo friendliness | High | Medium |
| Best for | Methodical survival players | Combat squads |
Verdict: solo, take The Way of Winter. With a squad of three or four that wants fights, take Endless Dream.
Is Isles of Abyss worth starting now?
Yes, if you want the newest content and do not mind a short run. Isles of Abyss launched with Version 3.1.1 on October 21, 2026 (PT), and it plays nothing like the land scenarios:
- You start at max level and progress through Tech instead of character level. The Cradle is not available in this scenario.
- The run is short. The official dev blog sets Phase I at roughly 5 to 10 days (shorter if the server purifies fast) and Phase II at 11 days, about three weeks before the rest stage. Joining a fresh server now gets you the full cycle.
- Ships are your base. Your vessel is both vehicle and movable territory, which is why our best ship build guide matters more here than base layouts do.
- The endgame is group content. Phase II Calamity Zones push the server's Purification Progress, and the Sunken Lord appears when it hits 100%.
The timing question is real right now. The first batch of Isles servers opened on October 21 PT, and the studio says the permanent server "will open before the first batch of servers closes, ensuring all Metas can merge into the permanent server. It is expected to open on November 18, 2026 (PT)" (Isles of Abyss server schedule). If your Isles server is ending, you can stay and merge, or sign up for a fresh Isles server. Under the Version 3.1.2 schedule, pre-registration is open and new Isles servers open every Tuesday and Saturday at 08:00 (local server time) in North America and Europe, and every Saturday at 08:00 in other regions.
Console note: Xbox players can invite friends to an Isles server straight from the console friend list. In the October 20 post, the PS5 version of that feature was still "in development."
What about the PvP scenarios and RaidZone?
Evolution's Call (warbands fighting over frontier resources) and Prismverse's Clash (two factions fighting over Prism Deviations) still open seasonal servers. What they lost is a permanent home. The studio explained why in a December 2025 dev blog:
"Our data confirms that there are usually fewer than 50 active players on permanent servers for these two scenarios. This is insufficient to support a healthy PvP environment." (Dev Blog, December 8, 2025)
Those servers were settled and closed on January 7, 2026 (PT), and remaining characters were moved to Eternaland. So a PvP run is always a seasonal run. When it ends, your character moves on.
RaidZone is a separate PvP mode with its own toggle on the character sign-in screen. Everyone starts on equal terms, and your blueprints and Mods from other scenarios do not apply. Our RaidZone guide covers the modes and how to join.
How do you switch to a different scenario?
You have three routes, and they cost different things.
- Wait for the rest period. Once your server reaches its 14-day rest period, just sign up for the new scenario through Menu > Scenario > Sign Up. No exit cost.
- Early Exit before the rest period. Go to Scenario > Scenario Description > Scenario Exit. The official FAQ says you can "exit your current server for free the first time." After that, Early Exit is limited to 10 per month across the whole account, and it spends a Scenario Exit Card if you have one, otherwise Mitsuko's Marks. Early Exit is not available on permanent servers.
- Make a new character. Your current character stays where it is. You can have up to 10 characters per region, one per server.
Signing up moves your character, and the studio is clear about the cost: "that character's level, supplies, and other data will undergo scenario settlement and restart in the new scenario," while account data such as cosmetics, Blueprint Level and Mod Level is not cleared.
Your weapons, armor, materials, medicine and Deviations go to Eternaland. Energy Links convert to Astral Sand. To bring items back into the new run you spend points, shown in the Backpack under Inherit Resources. Different items cost different amounts, so pick what you actually need. Our Eternaland guide walks through the transfer.
Does Season 5 change which scenario you should pick?
Not directly. Dissonant Resonance, the fifth Visional Wheel season, arrives with the November 18, 2026, 3:00 PM PT update (November 19 in Europe and Asia). Visional Wheel content runs in Visional Worlds, which exist on every server except Prismverse's Clash. You switch between Visional and Normal Worlds at a Worldstone. Isles of Abyss servers launched without a Vision tag, and the studio says their Vision World opens alongside the S5 Vision release.
So if you want Season 5 content, any PvE scenario will do. Our Season 5 release date guide has the timings by region.
Our pick for each type of player
- Brand-new to Once Human: Manibus (Novice), then move to a standard Manibus server or a permanent server.
- Solo, already level 50 once: standard Manibus or The Way of Winter.
- Squad of 3 to 4 that wants combat: Endless Dream.
- Returning player who wants new content: Isles of Abyss. Start on a fresh server so you get a full run, not the last days of an old one.
- Builder who hates wipes: any PvE permanent server. You must log in at least once every 30 days to keep your character there.
- PvP player: Evolution's Call or Prismverse's Clash for a seasonal fight, or RaidZone for short matches.
FAQ
What is the best scenario in Once Human? There is no single best one. Manibus (Novice) is best for new players, standard Manibus for solo players, The Way of Winter for a harder solo challenge, Endless Dream for combat squads and Isles of Abyss for the newest content.
Which Once Human scenario is best for solo players? Standard Manibus is the safest solo choice (Prime War is its one group-oriented part), and The Way of Winter is the best solo challenge. Endless Dream and the second phase of Isles of Abyss lean on group play.
How many scenarios are in Once Human? Seven as of Version 3.1.2 (November 2026): Manibus (plus Manibus Novice), The Way of Winter, Endless Dream, Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve, Isles of Abyss, Evolution's Call and Prismverse's Clash. RaidZone is a separate PvP mode.
Do I lose my items when I switch scenarios? You don't lose them, but they move. Gear, materials and Deviations go to Eternaland, and you spend points to bring items into the new run. Energy Links become Astral Sand. Blueprints, Mods, cosmetics and most currencies stay on your account.
Why does it say I have insufficient points when I move items into a new server? Each item costs points to bring out of Eternaland, and you have a limited budget. On permanent servers, Supply Points reset to the 20,000 maximum on the 1st of every month, so unused items can wait for the next reset.
Can I play Isles of Abyss solo? Phase I, yes. Phase II depends on the server clearing Calamity Zones, and the Sunken Lord is co-op content, so solo players progress more slowly there.
